Great video. I have a 65 cruiso sitting at a rebuild shop for the last four months. Think I'll take it back and rebuild it myself. That 15mm was probably a 19/32" Ford used odd sizes like that until about 1965
I know a guy that took one of those POS to two reputable transmission shops and both times it kept sticking in low gear. After two years of taking it back for the same thing he replaced it with a new engine and a C4 never looked back.
This is a very hard unit to build, those pipes have to be removed and replaced very precisely!,That said knowledge is required all over the building process!. Very hard to rebuild!. I could have fixed yours,I taught Automatics to several guys...good luck bro.
I have a mx cruise o Matic that lost all gears so I got another one for free and put it in and I did not have second or third I have swapped out the valve, body torque, converter pressure, regulator valves, and front and rear servo from the older one after testing to make sure everything moved freely and I pressure tested the servos I still only have third and reverse
So far so good. I have everything torn apart and rady to clean. BTW, do you still need the torque specs? I have them in the 62-63 Thunderbird shop manual and can copy and send to you.
Great video, was wondering if you have any advice for harsh down shifting from cruise trans on a 63 Thunderbird? Upshifts good no slippingbut harsh down shift.
Hello..congratulations for the videos. great job. I have a 1961 tbird, with this transmission, and even with the gear engaged the car doesn't move, what could it be? oil level?
Great video brad.im having a little problem with my 63 bird convertible.takes off from a start and goes right up thru 1,2,3 very smooth.when you are cruising along in 3rd,it downshifts to 2nd under a minor load, and the engine picks up on rpm quite a bit,(almost like it's slipping)then it will finally shift into 3rd.this is just going along at normal speeds.if you could help,it would be appreciated. Thanks greg
goot to know, looks like i can leave the bell housing bolted to the car? guess just have someone rolling(bar-ing) the engine over upon install to spline up tq?
Hello my friend. I want you to help me. I have a 1964 Ford Thunderbird. Is it possible for me to find an automatic transmission? The engine size is 390.
Great video. I have one of these out of a Tbird as well and it was interesting to see whats inside. Too bad your so far from me (Wa. State) otherwise I'd like to have mine resealed.
Don't try this yourself hire a pro this is a very difficult unit to build.I'm a retired builder and the first 2 I done DIDN'T WORK😁.That was in 1976....But leave this to pro's.

It's a high quality knife sharping stone. I tried cheaper ones and they just fell apart. If I remember right I paid around $70 dollars for it about twenty years ago. grey side is course red side is fine. I think it is a must have tool for any builder. I keep mine in a can full of clean ATF.
Man, I can't get that front servo piston apart. I took the screw out and the retainer piston is stuck to the shaft. I've even tried using a punch carefully in the screw hole and tapping the shaft off the piston, no go!
Hey, Brad just watched you're video it was exactly what i was looking to find, I was wondering if you could help me find a speedo drive gear for a cruise o matic discovered mine is completely missing.
Hi. Brad. I have 65 thunderbird with cruise-o-matic my friend did rebuilding and after that transmission not shifting gears at all. It's still on first gear and i can put second manual. Reverse its working. Please help what could be wrong ?? I'm stuck with it.
@@bradstransmission3846 thanks for You answer. The valve body we check and nothing stuck in it. Could be a modulator ?? I buy new one with adjustment. I change also a brake booster from orginal to uniwersal. Where from shoul modulator get vacum in oryginal was from break booster?
You might have some sticking valve's in the valve body. Put a bottle of Lube Gard (red) in that should help. might take a few days to loosen everything up but it will.
@@bradstransmission3846 Okay thanks for the tip..... I will try... And otherwise I have your great YT video to rebuild the transmission. Thanks for that...

Might be low, but more likely you need an overhaul.

Probbly be my luck but still love the vidoes

Sounds like the governor is stuck or maybe a valve in the valve body. That's where I'd start.

If I have a 58 Cruise O Matic in an Tbird am I better off using Type F or another fluid?
If you just rebuilt it use dex 3 or higher. if not use type F.
I see the video is 4 years old. Do you still live and work on transmissions in Utah?
Yes I still rebuild transmissions, and live in Utah.
I'm here because of precision transmission....anyone else?
My cruisomatic don't shift when it's cold.... What do I have to replace to get it working again?
