I owned a 2015 and it was a great car. The design is a bit long in the tooth now, though. Can't wait to see what Genesis does with the 2021 G80 that should be unveiled any day now.
JiSuk Yun I believe the new G80 is going to ride on an all new platform, shared with the upcoming GV80, whereas the G90 is still the old platform shared with the current G80.
The base model is the GS300 which offers a 2.0l turbo engine with RWD or a 3.5l V6 that's detuned with AWD. The GS350 comes with the normally tuned 3.5l V6. She said that none of the competitors have a base model V6, which in most cases is true except for the AWD GS300.
I'm surprised that out of all the automotive channels that review cars, KBB is the only one that at no point mentions the insane depreciation of the Genesis brand. That same G80 3.3T Sport that you were reviewing at an MSRP of $58,745 is worth in the mid $30K after just one year, that's a depreciation of over 40%. This car is a great deal as a used 1-2 year vehicle, but to buy this brand new would be a very bad decision.
I totally agree. 4 yrs later and I picked up a G80sport with just 40k miles just under $30,000 US. It is still very luxurious and smooth with no issues.

You titled this video Genesis G80 Road Test and Review, but it was actually for the G80 Sport, and they are not the same. Did you not realize that the sport model is different?
Great review Lyn. I think you woke up James. I am a little confused about the "class" that Hyundai fits into. Other sites, put the Lexus ES against this model. I'm not the pro, you are. Do engine choices help define the "class?" We are forever inundated with "best in class," yet seldom really know what that is. For example, I tried to comp a Sonata, which is considered a "Large" car to a Camry, which we all know is not. Yet online, that is who the professionals want to compare to. I have test driven the car in your video and it is truly wonderful. I also drove the new S90 and I loved it, but I'm partial to Volvo anyway. My point is that the Korean cars have managed to alter their specs enough to confuse people as to their equivalents. I don't fault them for that. I drive a Lexus IS, yet do not think it is comparable to the BMW 3-series. The initial BMW experience (forgetting for a moment, the lack of reliability and resale value) is outstanding.. I find them increasingly bloated with too much tech that when it misbehaves, affects the whole car. Again, forgetting all that, the "driving experience" is like no other. I wouldn't buy a Mercedes E-Class due to reliability, yet one can't beat the luxury one feels even minus the nameplate. I'd hardly put an E=Class against a BMW driving experience, and as for reliability.....I'll let you flip the coin. lol You all at KBB do a great job helping us dissect our options, but sometimes the more we put our options under a microscope, the more confused we become.
Mark my words... I will have this car in 2020. It separates itself from the rest of the competition and it's everything I need in a car! Genesis > Audi
That interior with the carbon fiber accents and two tone black/ivory leather is elegant. The Germans still have a slight lead in styling, but gotta say Genesis is closing the gap at a pretty fast rate.
@@jimcole2648 it's the weight of the car. I test drove them both and at a punch I found the 3.3 better because of the low end TQ. But that V8 sounds great.
Jim Cole your just a speed demon that’s all , even the regular 3.8 is good enough 6 second range , real world driving , i live in LA so I can’t really use that extra power Alll the time anyway nonetheless beautiful car whichever engine choice you pick
Miko_Pure your right the car is really nice inside and out. I just prefer an eight even though there are sixes with the same power. More of these high end luxury cars are going that route to sixes and fours. It’s like buying a Rolls Royce and they stop putting a 8/10/12 in there and go with the same sister engine as the BMW 7-Series the twin turbo six. You almost feel robbed. That’s just my opinion.
I hope they don't screw up the redesign of the next gen G80 & don't make it more expensive while adding an option for massaging front seats, a full digital gauge cluster, ambient lighting if it doesn't already have that, & a larger center display for the infotainment system running an infotainment software that's more unique & exclusive to Genesis that doesn't look so similar to Hyundai's infotainment system

My girlfriend owned 3 different G80's. A great, solidly built car. But a few minuses: Lexicon sound system? Good, not great. Also, (as of 2018) rear seats do NOT fold flat. A deal breaker for me! Sometimes I need that 'extra' space that a smaller trunk doesn't provide. Otherwise a nice car.
Why pay double the price for an AMG when AMG is only worth while on the track. How often do we really punch a 0-60 in 3 to 4 seconds on public roads. Unless we want tickets every day.
What ?! are you serious. even though. more important i believe its reliable and it works every time . unlike German brands endless fix and expensive repair i know and heard from people who owned previous Genesis models after 120K everything still solid and work and perform as it should
East17A If you want something that lasts a long time and has more modern tech why not just get a Toyota? It’s also a hell of a lot cheaper. The genesis would sell me if it just upgraded its outdated infotainment.. that’s all
True! If I had the money I would honestly get this over a 5 series or an E class. Although if given the choice of a GS or this. It would definitely be a tough decision between the 2.
It's not a Hyundai, a Genesis. That's like dismissing an Audi because it's "a Skoda" (except that many Audis are actually identical to Skodas underneath the skin while no Genesis shares a platform with Hyundai).
@@Mgoblagulkablong Time will tell whether or not Genesis can branch out on their own . They are still fairly new on their own. I'm pretty sure with the release of the crossover variants of their cars, people will head towards their vehicles. You gotta respect genesis for putting out these cars first instead of crossovers. They're the underdogs of the luxury segment and I'm all up for it.
I am in the luxury car business, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to "betray" my brand for this vehicle. There are 2019 G80s with less than 35k miles selling in the mid-$20s near me. That is incredible value for money. I've mostly owned German cars (in a 428i right now) but after just a couple years of ownership they begin having problems and you pay way too much for the badge. That interior with the carbon fiber accents and two tone black/ivory leather is elegant. The Germans still have a slight lead in styling, but gotta say Genesis is closing the gap at a pretty fast rate.
Ugh theres so much good on this car but that front dash is so Sonata 😭
its redesign is getting unveiled early next year
The v-8 is the way to go in this.
I'm a v8 guy but the 3.3 is just as good and better on fuel.
R C I drove it and it lacks power to me. Little more would be better
It's basically a comfy stinger.
Humpty Dumpty a more luxury stinger
But stinger don’t offering v8 😅
@@popsandbangs8858 It only shares the engine and transmission (3.3TT) with the Stinger. The rest is different.
Uh NO!
Beautiful car, beautiful lady reviewer
Fashion 101: If your shirt is tucked in, there should be a belt.
LOVE the dual colored seats along with red exterior. I do like the red but just wished they would do the exterior in maroon instead.
What happened to the other guy?
You said Genesis g70 at the end
This is definitely not the 1st comment.
The Infotainment screen is horrible
I hope they don't screw up the redesign of the next gen G80 & don't make it more expensive while adding an option for massaging front seats, a full digital gauge cluster, ambient lighting if it doesn't already have that, & a larger center display for the infotainment system running an infotainment software that's more unique & exclusive to Genesis that doesn't look so similar to Hyundai's infotainment system
This is nice. But I think I like the refreshed G80 better. Still I might take the 2019/2020 Kia K900 over this. Good review, Lyn!
my brother got the 2018 version, same one you were driving, 3.3 Twin Turbo V6 HTRAC, its smooth, luxurious, and with the torque coming in low it pulls! lol at 5:58 did you flub? it's ok Lyn I still love you, you sexy lady you
Now we only need the analouge clock brand to be spelled: "Rolex" 😄 👍
I know a lot of ppl are all over the G70 but I've always liked this car more! Would definitely pick this up with that V8 .... if i won the lottery
You don't need to win the lottery to afford this car!
At about 6:00 lyn called the g80 the g70. Whoops
Buying Genesis..Selling Genesis .. Genesis Resale value? really ?
She forgot to mention the sport gets a more aggressive front and the 5.0 doesn't come in as sport.
My girlfriend owned 3 different G80's. A great, solidly built car.
But a few minuses: Lexicon sound system? Good, not great. Also, (as of 2018) rear seats do NOT fold
flat. A deal breaker for me! Sometimes I need that 'extra'
space that a smaller trunk doesn't provide. Otherwise a nice car.
Why pay double the price for an AMG when AMG is only worth while on the track. How often do we really punch a 0-60 in 3 to 4 seconds on public roads. Unless we want tickets every day.
Erratum: G80 Sport wheels are 19 inch, not 18 inch.
It also plays DVD movies in park
Great review. Lyn's really catching her stride.
6:01 its the G80 not 70
That infotainment system is really dated.. :(
What ?! are you serious. even though. more important i believe its reliable and it works every time . unlike German brands endless fix and expensive repair i know and heard from people who owned previous Genesis models after 120K everything still solid and work and perform as it should
@@East17A an update is coming next year
East17A If you want something that lasts a long time and has more modern tech why not just get a Toyota? It’s also a hell of a lot cheaper. The genesis would sell me if it just upgraded its outdated infotainment.. that’s all
Extorior good but interior like huyndai a lot
The screen resolution, material, processor speed, and layout isn't modern enough, and hyundai knows this.
4:22 My c-pillar is on the thick side, too.
This woman has a really good writing style.
Looks really sharp. But I know most people just cannot get over that it is a Hyundai.
Cant lol
And.......Lexus is just a Toyota?
Where's mike
Design of exterior is nice.
RIP Micah.
@5:59 the genesis g70 lol
Nate lol
I don't get it
@@ItsWillTalk its a g80 review
Note: 10yr powertrain warranty is not transferrable
If U really want this version of g80, wait till 2020 when new version will be revealed. Clearance sale is waiting.
I like how understated the G80 is.
I found a 2019 g80 sport with only 10k miles for $39000 in that stunning Siberian ice color.
I am thinking of trading my fifty edition 2SS camaro for it, the camaro is gorgeous but this g80 is calling me.
Not everyone wants a sporty car so it not being a sport car is fine! Some want smooth luxury
Also thanks for clarifying that the guy wasn’t lyn and lyn herself! 😂
What happened to Micah? It’s been weeks since he’s had a review come out
