I have two questions 1. Is Dns ad blocking safe? Does the Dns monitor all my browsing to filter out ads? 2. Does this also block the unskippable in app ads in games or is it only for webpages?
RethinkDNS developer here. 1. It is safer than not blocking anything at all. Infact, apps like RethinkDNS in fact go one level further and encrypt your DNS queries that otherwise wouldn't be encrypted. 2. DNS adblocking is effective at blocking "ads" across app, including games. I don't recommend it, since I'd rather folks pay for games or support the developers with monetization of their work. Besides, DNS adblocking is trivial to bypass, though RethinkDNS does provide additional options to thwart such attempts by apps (an anti-anti-adblocker, if you will). All that said, RethinkDNS unlike other apps reviewed by HowToMen (with the exception of Malloc's AntiStalker) isn't focused on adblocking but instead on Network Security and Privacy.
Root and adaway will always be best I would never use an app that runs in the background to block apps It's better to just compromise on ads and use ad guard dns than using an app that keeps on running in the background to suck battery
Adguard all the way. The app won't drain that much battery considering it runs DNS filtering, https filtering, can be used as a firewall, completely remove banners and empty spaces, have script to disbale AMP, trackers control and such. It is worthy to pay 20$ (in my country) for a lifetime license.
