@@JimJamPixelI have great memories of her. I had never sailed before. In 1996, we had fog and 50 foot waves. Hearing the fog horn at night was something eerie but beautiful and comforting
2:24 that fireboat, “firefighter” was built in 1938 and designed by William Francis Gibbs, she fought numerous fires including normandie, el Estero and supplied water on 9/11. She is now a museum in mystic CT.
I wish I could have sailed on QE2 but at the time when she was sailing I was doing things like getting through school and buying a house....didn't have that kind of time or money. Now, I'm a regular traveling to Europe and back on QM2...glad we still have the option of traveling on an ocean liner vs the barbaric act that flying has become.
That would have been such a difficult decision...ride on her one more time, or actually get to watch her skim the Atlantic, which would such a unique experience...great video nonetheless. Thanks for it!
JimJamPixel is my Dad, several of QE2's final season voyages including this one sold out very quickly meaning that we didn't get the choice - but we had the better view for sure!
Hi there- I wanted to ask if I could use a shot from this film in another project? it's 49secs in from the start. don't know how to send a direct message here
it's slightly more complicated- its for a project to be shown onboard the Cunard Queens themselves- do you have a contact email or a way i can contact you privately? i've added your contact details in Google+, but can't find an email there. mine is bigmonster@bigmonster.tv, thx
I think Cunard had her kept in great state than other ships with less age, her upgrades over the years didn't affect her great design, but, you know, there was a big offer they (Carnival) couldn't reject.
@@miracabral Yeah, I know a LOT of higher-up crew members from QE2, and that was pretty much confirmed. They just didn't want to spend the money to get her up to the newest SOLAS regulations, so they sold her and bailed. Glad to see she's doing well, though, I spent a lot of time on her in my younger days and she means a lot to me!
Thank you for such an awesome video, we really liked it! We published it on our FB page with a credit to you ;) facebook.com/cruisebecom/videos/942439069251005/
You have a great channel! Would you be so kind to allow us using some of your videos related to cruising once in a while on our FB page or Twitter with credits to you and a link to your video on UA-cam? ;) P.S.: do you mind us editing/cutting, if necessary?
Ok! Great, thank you. We may change the audio only if the FB doesn't allow to post one alongside the video, but it doesn't happen often. Be sure we will provide you with the link, where your video is posted!
Her design is so intelligent that still amazes me today, I don't think there'll be another ship looking this good for a long time now.
How very true . . .
Agreed.👍
It looks so classic yet so modern, it's amazing
Considering the QE2 is over 50 years old it looks so modern
Indeed she does - James Gardner did a wonderful design job.
No here to this is year 13 qe2 qm2 on
She is the most beautiful ocean liner ever built!
I sailed into New York on her, in 1996 and in 2003, her last transatlantic season. Very special.
Indeed, Maggie, very special indeed, and still much missed by many. 👍

Beautiful Ship, The Only One Of Her Kind. There Will Never Be Another One Like Her.
An exciting and emotional evening skillfully captured!

That's an interesting history - I had no idea. Thank you.
@@JimJamPixel you’re very welcome!
I was watching this from the Hoboken waterfront. An amazing sight!
I was onboard doing both the westbpund and eastbound crossing. Inbetween I I enjoyed 10 hours N.Y.C.
When ships looked like ships , Not floating skyscrapers .

Excellent .
Thank you, William. I hope I do this fine old lady justice as she takes her final bow Stateside.
Thanks jim

I hate to say it but qe2 looked tired and I feel that shes happy in her current hotel state

And now they can not afford to sail with Cunard's luxury ship when the rich blue-haired aunts are dying out and the corona is cracking the rest.
