The launch of ships back then was so dynamic...it was an event. This is a great piece of film. Especially as it shows our much missed late departed Queen doing what she did best.
This is how you launch a ship….the long wooden slipway, coated in tens of tons of Tallow and soft soap to lubricate the rails which will smoke and smolder, a result of the intense heat from the friction as the mighty ship glides rearward on her wooden launch gear into the water….then the sound of huge cables tightening as the slack was taken up on the drag-chain bundles, of which each erupts in a cloud of thick airborne rust particles when they begin to move, scraping and clanking as they slow the massive hulk moving into the water. Now days they just flip the ships in sideways on large hydraulic ramps or simply float them out of the site where they are built and fitted out all at once.
Coming here to watch the Queen's magic touch on Q4.
God Bless the Queen and her family.

R.i.p Queen...
The birth of the QE2
RIP Queen
The last great hull launched into the River Clyde by John Brown Yard. Such a shame they weren't able to adapt to the changing world of shipbuilding...
The QE2's original launch design was her best iteration.
God save the Queen
A long time ago now in every possible way.

Margaret Thatcher realizing the ship is not named after her:
Well, as a backbench MP it would have been early in her career to be naming ships after her.
It wasn’t named after Queen Elizabeth II, it was named after the First RMS Queen Elizabeth launched in 1936
@@volpixrossi3589 did I say the ship was supposed to be named after Queen Elizabeth II though?
The lady reading the name was Queen Elizabeth
