Most beautiful?? You're joking I hope. Maybe one of the most beautiful RECENT ships, but compared to the old ocean liners this one is super ugly. Just compare it to the Mauretania.
I sailed on her for my first shipboard experience, a transatlantic crossing In November 1996....we had 50 foot waves for part of the journey. Took her again in 2003, her last transatlantic season. Loved her. She looks so sleek compared to all the ships that came after her.
I remember her tying up there at Circular Quay...I've walked along the shoreline there quite a few times! Sydney is such a wonderful city, shame they had to retire her. I miss sailing on her immensely, but the QM2 and sometimes QV make for a good consolation....
remember sitting by the harbour in Sydney and she just appeared ( didn't know she was due) wow what a sight and memory. Then when docked she blew her horn and the sound echoing off the high rise buildings in the city was immense.
_(for some reason her horn sounds a bit different to me; much higher than the usual low pitch I'm used to hearing but that may be just me)_ My 5th favorite liner of all time. Glad she's still here and hope to visit her again someday. She singlehandedly saved the transatlantic run and gave us the wonderful QM2 to go out. Still wish the Victoria and the new Elizabeth and Anne were also liners so we could have four active new liners than just one though. Oh well. It's vessels like QE2 that continue to give me the motivation to design and one day build my own superliner. :D
It was spectacular leaving Sydney. Everywhere we visited around the world this had to be one of the best send offs. Brought a tear to my eye today watching it again. Thank you.
Hello Mr Eggleson. I'm Matt from Auckland in New Zealand, and I just wondered, was the whistle of the QE2 in your video here the loudest cruise ship horn that you've ever heard? The Diamond Princess is REALLY impressive in person.
Nice to see, but why on earth are bits of this footage sped up , please repost it with all the video at NORMAL speed, we’ve all got the time to watch it, this is, after all, UA-cam 😎
Perhaps the last sleek Ocean Greyhound of the Cunard fleet. The mania for private balconies makes new ships awkward and unstable looking. Wide promenades affording all passengers uninterrupted views are considered plebeian in a World awash in self importance. So many folks dying to be a celebrity, even if only for a week at sea. Anyone who's ever crossed the North Atlantic (regardless of the time of year) will know that you'd need a parka to spend any time sitting on that....oh so exclusive balcony.
I've even seen ships moored at Circular Quay backed out and spun around and return to birth to allow passengers on the other side to get views of the Sydney Opera House.
As a regular traveller on the current Queen’s, there is a style and grace the QE2 had compared to the new Queen’s, that said the QM2 is a very worthy successor and much more suitable for cruising as well as her day job of crossing the North Atlantic. The QE2 was quicker than the QM2. As for the other two, the QE and QV they’re not liners just luxury cruise ships and certainly don’t sail as well in the rougher seas of the North Atlantic.
She's The Only Ship Of Her Time. There'll Never Be Another QE2,PERIOD.
I am proud to have sailed on "Her" as crew member. Great memories of great voyages and camaraderie amongst the crew.
I worked on her as well Happy Days
She was my home for three years. Those ships horns tear at my heart.
Wow, so one of the crew?
Nicholas Eggleston yes I was
probably the most beautiful ship ever built. Built in Scotland.
Don Stewart one of the British sea marvels

@@litamtondy COMPARE THE QM2 TO THE MAURETANIA THEN!!!
@@ellencardones4045 The QM2 is even worse than the QE2.
Such a beauty. I hate the new ships with all the decks stacked up.
Yes
They are “modern” cruise ships, not greyhounds of the seas like this, sadly the last! Ex seaman.
The most beautiful ocean liner ever built! Ex seaman.
I sat nearby you with tears in my eyes as she disappeared down harbour. Lots of memories from this video.
A classic beauty. I watched her sail out of Adelaide on her last voyage.

Beautiful ship designed and engineered to excellence

She is a very beautiful lady, I’m happy she was preserved for the future.😃

You definitely get the reverb off the buildings.

Very emotionable a ship leaving port for last time., brings tears to your eyes.
QE2 is one of my favorite ships
QE2 the best ship afloat
That look like real ship not those stack boxes today
that's because it IS a real ship from the 1960s
Yes
We were on the final world cruise. I can see myself waving a Scarfe underneath the Portside wing. Great memories.
Great that you could see the spectacular event from another angle.

It’s sad to see her go, now Queen Mary 2 is all alone in the Atlantic
What about Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth?
@@AussieGunzel they are both cruise ships not oceanliners
They also cross the Atlantic

Tried to find a balance
Terrible editing
I’m wondering did Dubai remove her engines I know they removed the life boats
My favorite ship of all time
She fine lady
She should still be sailing
She costs more to run now than Queen Mary 2
Steven Gibson least she isn’t under the waves
0:09 i didn't know she was this big until seeing from this pov
Though compared to the modern ocean liners it is small. A majestic ship however.
the ship is already retired in 2008
She would've been better suited for Sydney than Dubai as a hotel.
Not sure of the occupancy levels with it in Dubai at the moment. I think would be 100% if located somewhere in Australia.
A grand lady of the seas

Home for 2 years 95 to97
Wow. As a crew member?
Yes I was 1 of the breakfast chefs in Lido and my girlfriend now wife worked in the Mauritania
Idk much ab the QW2 so why was this the last time? Did it retire?
QE2 did retire
When was this filmed?
24th February 2008
@@neggleston I figured eventually

New ships suck they should have more ocean liners
