  • In an interview with WSJ's Alan Murray, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk makes the case for an affordable electric car, the likelihood of his company SpaceX sending a man to Mars, and why he isn't exactly like "Iron Man"'s Tony Stark. Interview originally aired on 4/22/2011.

      +Ayandolos If the world survives another 30 years, I doubt people will be aging anymore. We are at the brink of solving aging.

    • @StanSensei
      @StanSensei 8 років тому +5

      I will have to disagree on multiple points here.
      1. The healthiest and the wealthiest countries have the lowest birth rates in the world. Statistics show us that mothers who live in those countries choose to have fewer children because the chance of any child surviving and thriving in that environment is very big, hence fewer children are needed to ensure the survival of the genome. Therefore I'm confident that by ending aging we will also solve the population problem on Earth. A lot of people will not give birth at all. Some will still do it for the experience of having a child but most won't.
      2. We have accidents today as well so I don't understand your logic very much. I think that by eliminating death by aging we will be the opposite of afraid - we may in fact become too comfortable and delay anything that we want to do because we aren't motivated by time anymore. And sure every now and then people will die from car accidents and stuff like that, but thanks to cars like Tesla even that will happen less often. Knowing that aging isn't killing me is certainly a relief for me not the other way around. However don't look at it as becoming immortal because that will freak you out, now you cling to eternal life, but you are not invulnerable or invincible just not aging, so it's just another perk, like having a good dentist. Instead think about what's the meaning of life and how would having a longer life benefit you. Maybe you will have time to uncover spiritual truths or make a larger contribution to society. Who knows :)

    • @hzuiel
      @hzuiel 8 років тому

      +Stanislav Staykov Honestly I hope we don't solve aging before we convince everyone to stop having kids and shrink the population a little. Can you imagine if the birth rates continued but nobody died anymore? Holy crap can you say overpopulation.....

    • @hzuiel
      @hzuiel 8 років тому

      Ayandolos Moving people to other planets will certainly happen, but do you know what resources it would take to move billions of people?
      If you sterilize everyone and make it so that you need a permit to get the sterilization temporarily undone, it could happen. We need world population down to about a billion.

    Usually geniuses don't go around proclaiming that they're geniuses because they are secure in the accomplishments that being a genius has gotten them so much more easily than most people. It would actually be a sign of something being off with the person. It would be very unexpected for Elon Musk to go around talking about how smart he is.

      So far, 5 weeks after purchase, the monthly users continue to rise and the app hasn’t shut down like everyone said it would.

      I’m rather surprised at how well Twitter has performed the past month. Major advertisers like Apple have returned and there is more transparency on how previous management silenced (shadow-banned) individuals.
      Additionally, Twitter claims removing child exploitation posts are a focus now.
      Community notes seems to be more prevalent now too in an effort to combat misinformation, even calling out Musk on incorrect statements he makes.
      Twitter Blue is still late however as that will launch on Monday.

So to a lot of people it seemed like we were taking tax money and putting it into the riches hands. Nowadays that simply isn't true anymore. With the introduction of the model S which is being received very warmly, and the future introductions of the Model X and model 3 (Btw, the point of these names is so that they spell out this "S3X" hint hint), the car really is becoming more relatable to at lest the middle class. There is a written interview where the question is asked to Elon "Why not include solar panels to recharge the battery during operation" His chief designer said that due to Elon's math the size Solar cell they could fit on the car would charge it less then 10 miles a year. In order to have a large enough solar panel to get a substantial charge with an on board solar panel it would need to be a 10 foot long solar panel. Elon then said he still pushed to have it on though.

      He is definitely expressing a poorly disguised incredulity or even a contemptuous tone in most of his questioning style.
      And, while I feel it's important in a good interview to ask tough or pointed questions, you can do so in one of two ways, an encouraging demeanor which I find draws people out more naturally and they open up about things they would otherwise be self conscious of, or a critical demeanor which I find puts people on the defensive and makes them reluctant to fully express themselves. I'd prefer an interview of the first type over the second type any day. This guy was giving an interview of the second type.
      Bringing up the guys divorce?
      "Oh, I just saw your ex-wife's face on the screen before I came in here".
