    Like you said at 21:05 I like that there are different memory settings you can change quickly, so you can concentrate on your creativity "boom boom boom boom boom", like a drive by. Haha!

    Of all the Canons (and Nikons), the R5 the only model that supports nearly all the video codecs found in the Sony A1, but at half the price. That and focus speed were big factors in my R5 investment a few years ago.

    After purchasing the R5 with the free battery pack ($3400), I was so blown away, I dumped the old 5D IV quickly. I had no idea how good this camera really is.

      Sorry I missed this comment. The R5 really is an amazing camera. I honestly feel like it's the best camera Canon has ever made. Image quality is the best I've seen from a Canon. Appreciate all your comments.

    I bought my R5 about a year ago. Upgraded from the 5D Mark IV. I bought it with the RF24-105 f/4 lens so that I would have at least one piece of RF glass. I have since added two additional RF lenses to my kit: The RF 70-200 f/4 and the RF 85 f/2. I have a few Canon EF lenses that I am quite happy with on the R5: EF 135 f/2, the EF 50mm f/1.4 and the EF 300mm f/4 prime (nice but not super fast focusing and IS is noisy). In addition, I have the Sigma 150-600 zoom lens. After applying Duade Patton's recommended settings, this lens works great on the R5 for Birds in flight and other wildlife. Lastly, I have the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 manual focus, which I use for Milkyway shots primarily.
    Would I buy the R5 again today? Yes, in a heartbeat - especially with some of the deals that can be had (and I suspect even better deals around Thanksgiving)

    I couldn't afford RF L glass (yet😂) so I picked up the 24-70 F2.8 Sigma. Def a huge quality difference over rf 50 f1.8. Would love to see some lens comparisons in future videos!

      Oh wow that must have been one of those moments where everything happened in slow motion. That's pretty amazing that the camera with the weight of that lens didn't get damaged. If there is one thing that rings true about Canon pro level cameras is that they are built tough. Thanks for being part of the channel.

    I agree its a great camera but CANON needs to be held accountable for NOT telling us about the overheating issue BEFORE we spent $5,000 on the camera! *** I DON"T REMEMBER my B&H sales rep mentioning ANY OVERHEATING issues*** Hows that for a commercial B and H??....SHAME ON CANON...and on top of that instead of fixing they came out with the R5C which had us spend another $5,000....the fix on this camera came out later! Canon duped millions of photographers and film makers!

      @vaskoobscura_  Рік тому

      If I could double heart this comment I would. I totally 100% agree with your sentiment. The launch of the R5 was a disaster and so poorly handled by Canon. Canon has records of all the Early R5 sales and they should offer a rebate to all those people who were early adopters of the R5 and could not use any of video features because the camera over heated. As a long time Canon user I was not happy with how Canon tricked everyone with the R5 marketing. There needs to be some sort of accountability because what they did was dishonorable. The part that pissed me off the most as you mentioned was that they addressed the overheating in firmware after the R5C came out. They could have released that firmware a week after the R5 initially came out. I could rant about this for hours. I try to focus on the positives on my channel but as I said I totally understand where you are coming from. Appreciate the comment.

    Great content. What are available options for "unlimited" video recording with the canon r5?

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  День тому +1

      Non the R5 has a 30min record limit. Hopefully Canon gets rid of that in a firmware update. But if you use an external recorder like the Atomos Ninja V you can record pro res raw for hours. It all depends on how big of a hard drive you put on the Ninja V.

    Hello Sir,
    Would be kind enough to explain to me the IBIS in Canon R5 with RF 24-70mm 2.8L IS USM
    when I tap on the IBIS menu it says this function isn't available with this lens.
    But i see the plus hand ✋+ on the LCD
    does it mean that we don't need to turn on IBIS in the menu for lenses that have IS built in and IBIS works together with the lens IS?
    Do I have to change the IBIS in the menu for non IS lens like RF 85mm 1.2 L?
    I only have one lens 24-70 rn

    Thank you Vasko for providing your insight. In your opinion, are Canon lenses at the level of say an RF 70-200 F4 best matched with say the R6 M2 instead of the R5 from a resolution point of view? In other words, will any less resolving capability of such lower cost lenses relative to say the RF 85 1.2 not really take advantage of the higher resolving capability of the R5 sensor?

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  Рік тому +1

      If your intention is to produce the sharpest image possible then using a lens that resolves a lot of detail on any sensor will give you better results.
      Are lenses that resolve lower detail better suited for a sensor the resolves less detail? Not necessarily. It all comes down to how you're going to use the final image. From my experience with with vintage lenses, which don't resolve a lot of detail, you definitely see the imperfections in the glass when viewing images in photoshop but because the R5 sensor is so large when you shrink the images for web or social media everything sharpens up. I have a vintage lens sample gallery if you want to see some examples. www.vaskoobscura.com/vintage-gear It's an interesting question. Maybe one that needs to be explored in a video.

    Thanks really useful video I am more of a cinematographer and I am confused to buy between R5 and R5c. Both cameras have some good features and some bad what do you suggest which one is better in 2024 and also I have ef lenses as I am using mark 4

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  6 місяців тому

      If you're into Cinematography I would suggest the R5C. From what I've seen it looks to me that somehow Canon has done something to the sensor in the R5C which gives it a little more dynamic range over the R5. The footage looks really nice. I've never used the R5C in real life so all I know is from what I've seen on UA-cam.

      It's called C1, C2, C3. You can save your custom settings for wildlife to C1 then save your Landscape settings to C2. And best of all with the R5 you can save your custom settings to a memory card so you can have a backup of your settings in case you mess things up.

    i've had the r5 for over a year and have a few 3rd party lenses; my biggest issue is when trying to track a subject (ex: a red, male cardinal, perched on a shephard's hook in winter, nothing behind it but snow) the r5 refused to stay focused on the bird, and kept "searching" and getting stuck on the snowy background; because of that issue, i've hardly used my $4k camera; it can't seem to find the subject even with nothing behind it. i've brought it into a camera store with a lens and they can't seem to find anything wrong with it; even sent the 1st body i had into canon_nothing.
    what could i be doing wrong?
    can't return the camera and it's not worth selling, wouldn't get half of what i paid for it. i'm frustrated with the it and feel stuck. any suggestions? thank in advance!

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  Рік тому +1

      Here is what I would do if I was in your situation:
      1- Make sure the firmware is the newest firmware.
      2- In the AF tab I would set the subject to detect as bird.
      3- Set the focus method to be locked on and ignore objects that may come in font of the subject
      4- Enable the tracking mode on the touch screen so you can tap the LCD screen to tell the camera what you want it to track.
      Hope that helps.

      I'm actually working on an EOS R video now. I'm comparing it to the EOS R7. I need to get some more tests shoots done before I can finish the video but so far I can say that the R7 is better with AF but when it comes to image quality the EOS R so soooooooo much better. In my opinion the EOS R is better than the R8, R7 and R6II for photography. :) Only real upgrade is an R5 or R3.

  • @RogerZoul
    @RogerZoul Рік тому

    The r7 has a newer AF system, but it is not better at all. I own and use both, and the r7 simply cannot match the r5 when tracking fast-moving subjects. The r7’s AF system is very similar to that of the r3, but the r3 tracks like a true beast and can best the r5, but you’re at 24 MP instead of 45MP. I need the 45 MP. The r7 is a great camera for $1500, but Canon is not going to let it match the r5, for obvious reasons. And neither can match the r3, but the r5 is very close but the r7 is not in the same league.

    R5 MARK II doesn't support IBIS HIgh Resolution shooting which is a big downgrade compared to MARK I.

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  23 дні тому

      What so you’re saying you can’t shoot 8k and use the IBIS at the same time? I think that was a thing on the R5c as well. The power draw was too high. But than how was it possible on the R5? Strange I haven’t heard anything about that so I’ll have to look into it. Thanks for the comment.
