      Hi Ms Tiffany, wanted to know if these would look good using blanket yarn? I know it’s a thick yarn but I’m trying to do a unique style blanket for my niece and think she’d really appreciate this square. Or maybe 5 would work better?

      @CrochetWithTiffany  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi there, I'm so sorry for your frustration. If your granny square is coming out wavy that is generally a sign that there are too many stitches in the space. If you are following my tutorial exactly my question to you would be what yarn are you using and do you work with a tight stitch or a loose stitch. Both of these can affect the result of you square. Also, it takes a few rows for the pattern to take form. Try pushing through to round 5 and see if the pattern takes form for you. I hope one of these options help. 😊🧶❤️

      Oh thank you very much @@CrochetWithTiffany for replying so promptly, I appreciate that very much. So I watched your video again and noticed that somehow I ended up starting my square with 4 dbls instead of 3 dbls on each side. I know you used 4 but I usually only start with 3 dbls, and it seems to have worked itself out. I also did find an extra stitch on each corner (Gasp! LOL) I removed my whole work (Very sad) and started again with a very valuable lesson lol..... Count Your Stitches! lmao! Thanks again fellow crafter/crocheter.

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Рік тому

      Hmm, the warping might be a sign of how tight your stitches are. This is super common. There are a couple different things you can try to adjust this. You can try working with a crochet hook that is a little bigger to loosen up your stitches, or you can also try working with a thinner yarn. Give that a try. 😊❤️🧶

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi there! YES! You can work this pattern with a thicker yarn. You will notice that the project itself will be thicker. You will want to adjust the crochet hook size you are using to match the size yarn you are using. This will help a lot to make sure that the project lays flat and works the way you want it to. 🤗💖🧶

    Ok so I have a problem making this pattern… in all of my rounds, after I do the chain 3 and DC on top of next stitch there’s a larger gap between those two than the other DCs. I am using a thinner yarn but I don’t see why that would be a problem. The chain 3 just doesn’t connect close enough to the next DC so it makes a big hole. Ever had this problem?

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  10 місяців тому

      No worries. Sometimes this happens. In such a case go ahead and only chain 2 instead of chaining 3. It wont hurt anything and it should shrink that gap you are talking about. Hope this helps! 😊❤️🧶

    Did I do something wrong...any time I came to the end of a row or round, that last side that I slip-stitched into always had one extra DC. So I ended up just taking out one for that last row so all 4 sides are even. But am I missing something?

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  10 місяців тому

      Hmm, I'm not really sure. So hard when I can't see what you're looking at. I think the most helpful tip I could give here is just to make sure you are staying on count for each round. As long as you are staying on count and your corners are worked how I show you should be fine. It took me until I got to round 4 or 5 for the pattern to really take shape AND I also blocked my square for those crisp sides. All things to keep in mind as you are working up your square if it is not looking perfect right away. 😊❤️🧶

  • @AMaupin2
    @AMaupin2 Рік тому +1

    So, if you do a magic ring, instead of the chain 4, you'd still chain 3 before starting your double crochet stitches into the ring--right? I always end up with a giant center hole that I can't really close when I do a chain instead of a magic ring.

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Рік тому

      Great question. Yes, if you chain 4, you will then slip stitch into the first chain to form that center ring. After you form the center ring THEN chain 3 to start your round 1. 😊🧶❤️

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Рік тому

      Great observation. Keep going. towards the beginning the corner spaces are trying to take shape but won't be super defined as a square unless you block it. If you continue on you should start to see that very defined look after round 6. To help give you some piece of mind, I did block this square before taking the picture so you could see the details more distinctly. If you are following everything just as I explain it, you should be good. Trust the process and keep moving forward. You got this! 😊🧶❤️

    how much yarn would a person need if they were doing this but wants to do 3 colors of squares to make a throw blanket?

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Рік тому

      That is a great question! How I would figure this out for the most accurate answer would be to make one square. Measure how wide and how long it is. Then take it apart and measure how much yarn was in the one square. Convert inches to yards (if you need help you can just insert this into google for a quick answer). That is how many yards you will need for just the one square and it's dimensions. Now figure out how wide and how long you will want your blanket to be. How many squares can fit widthwise and how many square can fit lengthwise. If you need help visualizing, use grid paper. Now how many squares do you need to fill in the whole blanket? Divide this number by 3 for your 3 colors. Take that answer and multiply it by how many yards were in the one square. Now you know approximately how much yarn you will need to make all the squares you will need for your blanket. Don't forget to account for the amount of yarn you will need for joining the squares together and if you would like to make a border around your blanket to clean up the sides. There is no real way of knowing how much yarn you will need for the joining and border so I would error on buying an extra skein or two just in case. 😊❤️🧶

      @CrochetWithTiffany  Рік тому

      Great question Sarah. Because we are working closed rounds you don't really need a stitch marker. If you would like to use a stitch marker I would place it in the corner we close the round in. 😊🧶❤️

      Great question! The best way to make a tighter center is to begin with a Magic Ring. This will allow you to synch the center closed. 😊❤️🧶

    At the end of round 3 you worked 2 extra stitches in and then slipped stitches to close the round off. Can someone please help me…will this increase every round you do? So round 4 you would work 4 extra stitches in and then slip stitch to close?

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Рік тому +1

      Hi A S. With this pattern, we work one stitch on top of every stitch, in each corner you work (2 stitches, chain 2, 2 stitches). If you follow the pattern, every single round I add 4 stitches per side. That means each round I will continue to add more stitches before I slip stitch the row closed. Getting the pattern will help tremendously! I have a diagram that helps you visually and the directions should help you to see the pattern.
      I highly recommend for the best experience with this project. 😊❤️🧶

      I apologize for not being clear about that. What you will do is complete a round by closing that fourth corner. Then cut your yarn with a 4 to 5 inch long tail. Pull the yarn tail through the loop on your crochet hook and pull tight for a tie off. Then take your yarn needle and weave in your tail. I left this tutorial open ended because you can really choose how big or small you want your square to be. 😊🧶❤️

    I love the simplicity of this square and it is a great beginner square. If you want a more seamless close of the round you join with a half double crochet (hdc) to the beginning chain or stitch. I do a stacked single crochet (sc) instead of a chain. The hdc counts as a chain 2 and allows you to always start in the corner with a chain 2 (or stacked sc) and 1 double crochet (dc) then you finish the round with 2 dc joining with a hdc. Works the same if you only chain 1 in the corners. You just join with a sc to count as your chain 1 at the end.

    Well, that's a little spooky. I'm literally right in the middle of doing a solid granny square right now! 😂 The only minor differences are that the pattern I'm using starts off with a magic ring,, used 3DC instead of 4DC per cluster on round one and slip stitches into the corner chain space to start the next round - but otherwise, it is identical.

    My granny square was wavy what did I do wrong?

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Рік тому +1

      Hmm, there could be a couple reason. One, check how tight your stitches are. It's possible that the stitches just don't have enough room to lay flat. Second, count your stitches in each round. Sometimes we just go without counting thinking we got it but it is very easy to get off track. For me personally, I will count the number of stitches I have in each row for the first 4 rounds to make sure I see the rhythm and then I'll count the number of stitches I have in each round every few rows to make sure I am staying on track. I hope this helps you out Rose. 😊❤️🧶

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  7 місяців тому

      Hmm, that depends on if you are switching between 2 different colors or if you are integrating many different colors. If you are just switching between 2 different colors I would end the round, drop a color, pick up the second color and then begin the next round. If you are incorporating many colors I would tie off the yarn at the end of the round and then slip stitch to attach the next color in the same stitch you ended the last round. I hope this helps. 😊❤️🧶
