    I switched from gopro to the tg6, case, strobe, tray. Simply amazing

    • @M3rl1n87
      @M3rl1n87 3 роки тому

      I run both by putting the GoPro on the TG-6 housing cold shoe mount, plus a strobe and video light in a two handed tray, as I find the TG-6 battery gets drained incredibility fast when doing any sort of video and prefer the video quality from the GoPro better anyways. This way the only battery on a 2-3 tank dive trip i have to change is the typically the GoPro battery after each dive. TG-6, Backscatter MF1 Strobe and Kraken 2500 video light I use, their batteries last for a long time with battery management.
      (Note: I typically leave my GoPro recoding for as long as it can for each dive.)

    Love the new collaboration. 100% agree with your camera selections. All solid choices. The GH5s is our primary camera, and we love it. We also use a SeaLife DC2000, but SeaLife did discontinue the DC2000 in the Spring of 2020. Looking forward to more great discussions on underwater film making.

    Great to hear about how you started. I also started with a disposable, then made the jump to a film camera that came with its own housing and a pump to create a vacuum. Could not wait to take the film in and then a few days later throw away 34 pictures of nothing. Moved onto the cannon Ixus. Was good for a while

    I bought the SeaLife Micro 2.0 with a 2500 lumen video light (also with tray and extension arms) several years ago and for a beginner you just can't go wrong. No housing needed---they are now discontinued and the new Micro 3.0 now shoots in 4K. Falls at about the $1000 price.

    I'm excited for these videos! Just now starting out with a gopro 8 with an aluminum tray and 2 video lights. The problem is I e had to add an extodinary amount of bouancy devices just to get neutral and suddenly my little compact setup has turned into a monster. Not sure where I'm going wrong. Any tips would be great

    Thank you, James and Matthias! I was thinking of getting a GoPro Hero 9 for Christmas and you guys really sold me with the positive review. I would like to hear more about the essential accessories and GoPro setup you recommend for beginners. For example, I'm trying to decide between going hands free with a wrist strap mount for using the GoPro on dives or holding a tray for stability and using a clip diving lanyard that I can attach to my bcd or storing in my bcd pocket when not filming.

  • @rayhsetwo8594
    @rayhsetwo8594 3 роки тому

    I enjoyed the reviews and have a few questions
    1.Does the Gopro hold you to a subscription ransom? or is it useable out of the box without having to setup online accounts and subscriptions with gopro themselves? i.e I want to get it out of the box, film, edit, play on my pc using my software and don't want subscriptions or lack of them restricting my use in any way?
    2.The TG6 you didn't really talk about it's performance, so is it any good for video, or is it mainly used for stills?

    Hi Guys, really glad you touched on the last topic of when to dive with a camera.
    I completed my AOW after about 15 dives and was eager to get my Gopro in the water and did at about dive 30, then the learning curve started and I binned the camera at about dive 32 and just concentrated on my diving!
    I'm over 50 dives now and am keen to get some underwater footage now I am more estabilished with my diving and am using a Gopro 8 home mounted to the bottom of my Orca torch goodmans handle "you can imagine the quality yeah"?
    What would you suggest to improve my footage within the gopro sort of budget (Cradle lights filter etc...?) TBH im in no rush and am still diving without my camera but would like to expand on the gopro setup and start seeing some results before I have to lie to my wife about the cost of my equipment too!
    Daz:-)

    I just stumbled across the SeaLife Underwater housing for the iPhone. I am curious to know if you (or anyone) has tried this and has any opinions as to the video/photo quality of the iPhone underwater vs. the GoPro. I just watched their video detailing how to set this up and it looks like there are some really nice features but it also appeared to be a bit more complicated to get set up prior to a dive. I'm interested in everyone's thoughts and opinions.

    Hey James & Servus Mathias! Nice Video. Suggestion for another video...how do amateurs learn UW photography and videography? Diver’s Ready has me sufficiently convinced that a certification course is B.S. (lol) and now that I have also learned a divemaster can teach it (bloody hell)...how do we learn? I saw one dive shop near me offering an UW photo/video PADI course through a university which was 7-weeks which seemed legit, but are there other good tips in addition to watching your awesome videos.

This helps with taking the focus off the camera, and focus just on the dive, while still getting some good video. James and Matthais, really enjoy your videos, keep it up. A question about new divers and cameras. As a newer diver i agree in the importance of focusing on skills before getting distracted by a camera. However, in this day in age with the action cameras around what is the harm in a new diver clipping a gopro onto there straps or wrist, starting it before entering the water and forgetting it, until the exit. I think this allows the excitement of getting videos while still focusing on improving. Maybe you can tell me what im missing with this logic to make it bad idea or is it a good idea. Thanks again for all your awesome work and tips. Always excited when a notification of a new video pops up.

    I'm pretty sure my first underwater camera was blue Fujifilm. My first action camera was GoPro 3 - but it died just outside of of the warranty. Then got a Sony Action FDR-X3000 that died just inside warranty - got it fixed then it died again outside of warranty. Now using GoPro 8 with extended warranty. Without using lights I personally found the Sony had better Video and Audio compared to the GoPro 8. Now looking at getting a lighting system - leaning more-so to SeaLife accessories; have you any other accessory suggestions for lighting? Cheers :)

I was raised up on Olympus film cameras and loved them so their digital was a no brain move 4 me. I have tried other cameras but i think I am to use to Olympus. Would love to see a video on TRIPODS. James, I think I used to see a Kraken case on the shelf behind you in your old studio. How did you like that? I used one with an iPhone 11 for just one season and I thought it was really good. The iphone seems a lot better in low light than my Go Pros and this resulting in fewer blurry pictures and good movies. I am awaiting diving to attach an Orcalight to it, following Matthias recommendations :-)
    I agree that 50 dives is a good rule of thumb. I saw too many divers kicking corals while not being able to maintain buoyancy and taking pictures at the same time :-)

  • @kevindavison6019

    I'm using a Apeman action cam it was only $50 and takes great High Def video only problem is its difficult to find the filters and attachments for the housing I modified some that were meant for go-pro but this is not an option for most people. I have a generic Chinese light attached to it about 800 lmns but still not bright enough. I want to enjoy the dive AND get some video, not spend my whole dive fiddling with camera settings and looking at one fish or piece of coral trying to get the perfect shot. I would like to see some information on how to make filming convenient. I would also like to see some editing techniques and suggested programs to try to make things easier and quicker to edit.
