  • Lot, defined as a righteous man by the Word, offers his daughters to a mob outside of his home in order to seemingly protect two strangers. The skeptic quickly points out how this is unethical, thus concluding that Yahweh's definition of righteousness is clearly not moral. Perhaps there is something the skeptic, and actually many believers, are missing in their understanding...

Warned Jesus " Remember Lots wife" not just to Sodom but COMPLACENCY towards it , the state that over 70% of Protestant America is in today,

Prove good exists with evidence outside of the bible. Atheist just don't except the theist claim that there is a god. The bible is the claim not the evidence.

119 has been a blessing for me and my wife but i have to disagree with this teaching. It was not because the mob was all homosexuals that Lot offered his 2 virgins daughters instead but because it was thought in those times that it was worst(or more wicked) for a male to be raped than for women. Lots did the best thing he could in his position to try to protect his guests and he would have done the same even if they were not angels.

You have left out something the Bible has to say about Lot. It says he was a man that vexed his righteous soul daily.

The actual answer is that Judaism at the time, like all of the surrounding socieities, was deeply patriarchal and Lot was considered righteous for protecting his guestes by offering up HIS daughters since from the viewpoint of that time there wre his to offer and it was a noble sacrifice to protect his guests.

Adding to Hans Anderson's post, let's say the men do only like men and lot offering his daughter's did anger them. Then they would just attack lot and the messagers

This defense of Lot's actions here doesn't hold water. Sorry, but you're really reaching at speculations with no textual support to try to justify something that you don't need to justify. Offering his daughters to be gang-raped is not what the Bible calls "righteous" behavior. And reading into the text that this was all part of some brilliant psychological manipulation is completely bogus conjecture. Also, the argument that the crowd was "only interested in men" so they wouldn't want Lot's daughters is so asinine and ignorant you really should think twice before posting something like this. Maybe Peter referred to Lot as righteous DESPITE this incident -- not BECAUSE of it. Lot was called righteous because he believed God -- not because he offered his daughters to be gang-raped (and then got black-out drunk and had kids with them). I have literally heard NO other Biblical scholars try to defend Lot's wicked and cowardly actions here as an example of righteousness. Maybe you should read a commentary or two before offering your own "teachings".

lot offering his own daughters was not a selfless act at all . . . because as if the scripture lot offered his daughters not himself . . . lot's act was not only selfish but also cowardice and cruel

Thank you for making this passage clear to me. I had somewhat understood about Lot's daughters, although it sounded gross to me,but I truly didn't see Lot's selfless act by wanting to hand over his daughters.

Lot's daughters went on to get their father drunk, so heavily intoxicated that they were each able to have sex with him on two consecutive nights. Both daughters were intentionally seeking to become impregnated by their very own father. This disgust me to my core.

This is one of the dumbest arguments that atheists have, and no your solution does not work.

Keep reading and explain what happens next when the daughter's get lot drunk and have sex with him and get pregnant. Not once but twice. And he was so drunk that he didn't realize it. Both times. Anyone who is drunk enough to impregnate his own daughters without any memory of it, more than likely won't even have the ability to perform to completion. Your book of fables is simply that. Irrelevant in reality, written by bigoted, superstitious savages with the agenda to control by making false claims and spreading inaccurate descriptions of the natural world. Only uneducated, simple-minded sheep can still find it useful today. You're slowing us down!!!!

Just imagine what would have happened if there was no supernatural intervention from God by enabling the angels to blind the wicked men. When we come to the end of the incident , it's a great sign of relief. Maybe God's intention to include this incident in the Bible is to prove that we ( humans ) can be desperately wicked and without divine intervention ( divine restraints ) we cannot fathom how evil we can and act out to be.Its a fearful story with a relief ending because God' power won over man's wickedness and evil.Lot might be righteous but what if the ' sexually charged mob ' accepted Lot's offer.Would he then handover his daughters to them. What kind of a righteous father would do that.Again , IMHO Lot's plan of action was wrong but God in his mercy and great power intervened in this situation and saved them. Thanks to God because there was all sorts of ways this could have ended in disaster.

So you're telling me not a single man in the whole town was straight? "...the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the people, to the last man." That can't be right or there wouldn't be any young people in the city. Clearly Lot was putting his daughters in danger by offering them up.
