Today's Question: "How are we to interpret Lot's offering of his two virgin daughters to the men of Sodom when they surround his house and demand that he brings out his guests so that they may have sex with them in Genesis 19? Was it such an unthinkable breach of hospitaility to let his guests be molested in this way that he desperately resorted to a lesser of two evils? Or was the offer simply a stalling tactic as he knew that the men of Sodom would not accept it anyway? How does 2 Peter 2:7 control our interepretation of the passage and of Lot's life in general?"

As a father to two daughters, I find this is a repulsive story. Even more astounding, is how an all powerful, omnipotent god who has the ability to impregnate humans from afar, sits and watches the whole story unfold (rape of their father by daughters who assumed the only way to grow their tribe was to sleep with their father) is still worthy of praise. There can never be justification for this action. Ever. He, if he exists(and I would hope he doesn't in this case), has a whole lot of explaining to do.

He doesn't have to explain anything his daughter's were their own person and they wanted to sin like that God isn't controlling or anything and he let's humans be humans just like if you decide that you want to go and kill someone God won't stop you because he let's individuals have their freedoms and choices whether it's a sin or not if his daughter's repented they're forgiven but God most likely didn't agree with what they did because they acted from the flesh and not from a spiritual view.

@@TimezOfInfamy what a morally reprehensible justification for an abhorrent act. Good luck worshipping your mass-murderer.

@@donniebrasco7243 it's not murder for God he is the giver of life and has the right to take it, and if Christianity is true people don't really die but change location. Also if you're an atheist you can't justify why murder is wrong because you have no standard above you and too them morality is purely an opinion. But most of the time in the old testament when God killed many people it was because of their terrible unrepentant sin which he gave hundreds of years to turn from, for example the canaanites who burned their children alive to their god.

@@littlebittykittytamityispr1974 unfortunately that old chestnut of atheists having no morals doesn't work anymore. What you DO demonstrate succesfully though is that divine command theory is still a complete failure.

About the sexual connotations of feet because when the woman came with the alabaster box and broke it and washed Jesus's feet I do not believe it was sexual acts that was being performing I believe it was one of humility and knowing that God forgives our sin ...I believe you're way off on a lot of things... this is a question that I've had for so long and I'm studying it today on the Sabbath ..but you're off on some things here.. lot is always been a shady character to me.

What made u say that a more accurate reading of genesis 19:15 reads "... your daughters who have been found"? I looked at the the hebrew version and it apparently simply says "...your daughters who r here.." ??

As great a language as English is, we will never know the translation perfectly. Your conclusions, being based on English, are still very interesting.
