    That’s what you call firm and decisive. Always impressed with the piloting skills in and out of that airport. Smaller than average runways, windy, and right in the middle of a suburban area leaves little room for error.

      Can see downtown Chicago along the perimeter of Lake Michigan at 8:37 before banking. This was the busiest airport in the country during the 1940’s-1950’s until O’Hare was completed circa late decade. Thx. Good job!

      @@OSTARAEB4 Well said. Short runway and they landed on centerline, in the touchdown zone on speed. A little wing rock at the last second made it a bit tougher but that's how it happens sometimes.

    My wife and I were flying into Chicago Midway for our first time. An older gentleman sitting next to us asked if we had ever flown into Midway. We said no. He replied.. "Well,the runway is shorter than most. So the pilots will try and set it down right after they clear the fence." "So sometimes it can be rough." We thanked him for the heads up. Well,talk about a smooth landing?!! He looked at us and said that was the smoothest landing ever! It was!!

    Great depiction of a typical MDW landing on 31C. I was on a SWA flight across the aisle from a couple young ladies who apparently didn't waste any time in the airport lounge before boarding--they clearly made good use of their time, if you catch my drift. Neither had ever flown into MDW before, and both actually assumed the brace position as they were certain we were landing short of the runway. They managed to stop hyperventilating by the time they deboarded but were still talking about how close the plane came to the McD's arches on the way to baggage claim, LOL. The old circling approach to 22L was my favorite. Rarely do you get to experience that sort of bank angle that close to the ground.

    The best thing about this channel: NO Political BS that you see on all the other channels. This channel is a nice break from all that garbage! Just Airplane engine noise and turbulence! I am fine with that!
    This is one of those landings that make you really happy to be back on the ground! I have been flying since I was 3 and even being close to 50, you still never get used to this. Thank you Skylite, Another great video!

    May have also been some gust factor to the wind, along with wind shear reported in area, both necesitating keeping the aproach speed a tad higher till touchdown to avoid a stall, add in some likely convective and mechanical turbulence as you near the ground and it makes for a challenging landing.i remember a similar landing at ISP on SWA, next day read in paper a record peak wind gust was reported there right about landing time, a testament to the crews skills- Southwest hires good sticks!

    Gotta get that bird down at KMDW! And it’s super important to get it down in the landing zone. Windy, in the middle of a neighborhood and short runways…MDW is a bit more demanding than it looks, especially if you’re high on approach.

    I have landed at Midway I don't how many times. Based upon my experience, this one was middle of the pack. I have had very smooth landings at Midway and I have had much bumpier rides too. When it is that windy, you will sometimes get touchdowns where you really drop onto the runway. That is because pilots want to keep up their speed in case they need to do a missed approach. So they drop the plane onto the runway at the last second. That is also how you land on an aircraft carrier. So bumpy approaches often end with whumps on the runway. And when it happens I joke about how our pilot must have been a navy pilot.

    Some fun short runways to land at on SWA include Chicago-midway, Santa Ana, Burbank, and Houston-Hobby. Sometimes it feels like these ex military pilots land like they would on an aircraft carrier and I love it! Nice firm landing to put the 737 down quickly and safely.

    I flew into Midway the other day for a layover and it wasn't quite as bumpy, in fact we touched down quite nicely right on the marks. Thanks my friend. Assuming CSP here is classic Skylite Productions 😁. And then for the winglet. I assume you mean the split design pointing towards a Max? If so, a split design winglet isn’t a guaranteed tell that it’s a Max. Yes, all Max aircraft have a split winglet, but next generation 737’s can also have them. Next generation 737’s being the 600, 700, 800, and 900. They’re called split scimitar winglets and Southwest, Alaska, United, and Delta all have large portions of their next gen fleets outfitted with them. Thanks for watching my friend!

      Sounds like a rough flight. I've had some like that that you can see on the channel here. Ones that, even I, with 750+ flights in the last 10 years alone, wasn't sure if we'd make it. Bad thunderstorms were usually the culprit on my flight though. As for this landing, I'll agree the approach was very smooth, however, the landing was not. The rough in the title is in reference to the actual touchdown during landing. So, we can disagree on that part if we have too, but it was a pretty rough one. There was virtually no flare, and the wing bounced back in the air like 5-7 feet when the wheels touched. My cameras are very nice and they do a great job smoothing out rough turbulence and landings, but any time the wing and camera moves around that much with my equipment, it was rough. Thanks for watching!

    Not much room to really have a smooth flawless landing bc of how short the runways are. So most of them are gonna be firm. That's also a warning to anyone who has never flow into this airport before.

      Yes it was. One of the roughest landings I've had in awhile. My camera does a good job of smoothing things out with it's built in stabilization, but this was a pretty rough one. Thanks for watching man!

    Oddly enough, it didn't LOOK Like a rough landing, as the aircraft was going down & down, turning as it approuched the runway. Huh. I still liked the video presented.thank you. by, by....

    • @sla31
      @sla31  Рік тому +1

      There's a reason why I don't label many landings as rough or hard. The big problem now is that cameras are so good, that the built in stabilization often makes rough or hard landings look not as bas as they were. Which is great for the pilots haha, but I tend to avoid using those terms. This is one of those instances where I can assure it looks better on the camera than it did in the seat of that plane haha. Thanks for watching my friend!

    Rough landing??

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 роки тому

      That is correct. It wasn’t the roughest of all time; but it was rough enough to be one of the tougher ones I’ve had in the last year or so. The camera, with its built in stabilization, often makes it look smoother than it was. So, if it looks rough on camera, it was 5-10 times worse in person.

  • @dlvox5222

    Haha. Not even bad. The roll was a few degrees. This can be seen by the wing tip/horizon orientation. Great visibility. Although uncomfortable, not dangerous. Way worse at night with limited visibility, weather, and a low ceiling.

Also, this is Southwest’s old livery, from 2001…. Well before the Max even existed. I promise, I know what I’m flying haha. This is an 800 😁. Thanks for watching my friend!

    Looked normal to me. If you watch video of the pilot as they are landing, they are pulling on the controls like a cop throttling a crook.
