I met this woman once around 200x, no idea who she was, she was accompanying a friend of hers and was watching the sound check of a band I played in, later I sat next to her backstage during diner. We hardly had any conversation, she only told us that she "also played bass". What do you know. A few years later I saw her on stage with Prince. Just saying. Very modest. And quite an embarrassing moment for me :).
None of that is funky. You want funky? Go find live performances of Little Walter and his bass player. Or Mingus records. Louis Satterfield's work with Muddy. Everything Jamerson, everything Jemmott, everything Rainey and everything Max Bennett. Jaco? Yes, but he had his R&B shit down hard whereas this chick doesn't appear to. Staccato ain't funky. It's the space you create, your understanding of local culture(s) of the world and those traditions one draws from that make you funky because Funk is about love and nothing but love for your people or the people of the world. MoTown's Detroit stuff was completely magical and so deliciously funky. It made Funk sophisticated but all the half notes and all the not-quite perfect harmonies -- that's funk. I know some here will agree and others won't. Such is life. I will say much has been lost that may never come back. We will never see another Detroit MoTown. My heart remains broken because of it.
@@euromarquee Never be another vintage Motown sound of which you describe... No one held down the groove like the late great James Jamerson and the Funk Brothers...BUT...I very respectfully disagree if I'm reading you correctly. This lady is funkier than a pot of collard greens that was left out on the stove all week...🤘🏾
Larry Graham is smiling with excitement at his innovation has blew the doors wide open for creative bass guitar getting the respect to watched and listened too as a lead instrument in addition to the bottom support
Man, I didn't expect that passive sound to come outta that boutique bass. The tone, your playing, and the attitude of your groove is spot on! You had fun playing this, peace!🎉
That big happy face she makes at the end shows me how much she loves what she's doing, and that goes a long way with me. This gal has mad skills! Go, Miss Ida!
So beautiful! I cant hit those yet...took a lessons from David Pastorius and played drums with his uncle Jaco 5 hours.....you are the same as both of them!!!! David is a sweet man and now we're friends!!!!
If you want to find awesome musicians, Prince's backing band is always a GREAT place to start. The guy was a brilliant multi-instrumentalist and always seemed to get amazing musicians involved.
Prince had to have wanted to play bass with Ida 24/7! Her playing style is astounding, she is slappin that bass like it just cursed out someone's momma!
She is amazing and about as good as it gets. When you spend your life doing something well it’s a blessing. I just started bass and it’s not as easy as she makes it look.

Holy shit I knew she played with a funk lord but she is a funk lord herself! So crisp. Super tight groove
Crisp is a perfect word for the way her fingers dance and glide from fret to fret.
This is why prince chose her
She was worthy to play bass with one of the funkiest dudes in music. She did not disappoint.

One of my hero miss ida
She’s from Denmark. 🇩🇰 . Danes are modest. Greetings from Denmark... 😊
@@majkenwegener7987 Greetings from New York USA Majken! Wishing you health and happiness!
When someone is really good at something showing off is not necessary anymore, when you are talented you become self confident
Prince always had the most talented musicians around him.
Exactly. She also once said that Prince was an artist who ALWAYS "pushed" the others in the band to make them even better musicians
She always holds the rhythm no matter how manic she gets unlike a lot of other top end bassists
Ida Nielsen is a fantastic and unique versatile musician !!! Truly amazing and unique !!!
Holy shit i need to start practicing
Same lol
Same here
Me too!
The point isnt to make him feel like he couldnt get on her level man
Same here
Amazing!!!!! It's a cliffhanger rock-climbing bass action to behold.
I wore sunglasses like that. That’s as far as I got.

This is so funky my brother walked into my room and thought I had bit into a lemon.
Thats HILARIOUS.
So funky I had to take my socks off.
She's got that Arsenio Hall, "deep-down, in between yo toes, up-under-the-foot funk" ;-)

Whats up slappers
Slap like in this video and the comment of Leonardo Estrela

Not just slapper the 2nd half is all standard.

She eats Davie504's for breakfast. Amen. Prepare for millennial eating-storm.
Just look at her ponytail, for gawds sake!
She is an Amazing Player
She got them fingerstyle and slap. A lot of players focus only one. She got both. She's extremely skilled.
I just love how she gives off that tough and cool vibe, but when she talks she's just the sweetest woman ever!
She, and her golden Bass
YOU MAKE ME VERRY HAPPY,IDA!! THE FUNKY MUSIC IS MY HEART AND SOUL.. THANK YOU!!!
