I actually read the first trilogy when it was published and it has always been one of my absolute favourites. You are absolutely right, fantasy lovers should not miss Tad's work. I'm eagerly waiting for the last installment of the Osten Ard series as Simon, Miriamele, Binabik and all the others have "grown up" in the decades in between and so have I... So, it's a very special "reunion" for me. And you won't be disappointed as Tad still knows how to captivate his readers!
Yeahh! I think more fantasy readers should be jumping and talking about this series more frequently. I'm very excited to get to the second series in Osten Ard Saga, too! :)
It DID feel like a reunion, and I loved how they had aged, but stayed the same. Tad is a master at mixing a little rwf into his epic fantasy.
Great discussion. I’m still amazed how a series that influenced so many modern authors is still so underrated. With MS&T, I can see why Tad Williams is highly regarded for his prose and worldbuilding. I wish he would be more acknowledged as Martin, Sanderson and Rothfuss is. I stumbled on this book by accident at a used book store a while back and I thought the cover looked really cool, so I purchased it and gave it a try. I am so glad that I did! The series quickly became one of my favorite classic fantasy series of all time! The prose alone was gorgeous! I hope you enjoy the series as much as I do!

This was great! I read Memory Sorrow and Thorn at the end of last year and I still think about it. It's one of those where the more time passes I feel like it gets better and better. Gonna read the sequel series later this year.

Some other parallels I noticed with ASOIAF: Needle/Naidel with the escaping Princess/Aria, Joshua and his missing hand is like Jamie but we miss out on seeing his early life where he's described as a real mean and rough guy (so GRRM turned it into a character arc), and the False Messenger prophecy and perfumed senseschal prophecy (Dance with Dragons). Oh, and most notably in the first chapter "ALL MEN MUST DIE."
Those are all great finds! And you're right, that "All Men Must Die" is awesome. I think it's amazing how GRRM incorporates this into his books while making sure his remain original. :)

I think this series isn’t as popular because the 3rd book drags. Just my opinion of course. Books 1 and 2 had good pace but book 3 is absurdly long for no reason which really brought down my opinion of the series from being excellent to just pretty good.
To Green Angel Tower is definitely massive! I hope I'll enjoy it thoroughly and don't feel like it's too long. I can certainly understand how that situation occurs, though. 520k words is a MASSIVE book! :D
It felt like a trilogy that could have been 6 books instead.
I loved all three books but thought Stone or Farewell dragged. The third book didn’t drag and is my favorite. It’s huge but I savored every word.
