@@PetrikLeo based on having only read book one, it is so worth it. I will be finishing it up here next month. I’d be stoked to hear your thoughts on it
Hello Petrik. I have all of the traditionally published books on this list in my library and plan to read them sooner or later. However, in case of Echoes Saga, Illborn and Dreams of the Dying, I can't read them soon simply because they're not available. That's the problem with all self-published books in India. They're simply either not avaliable without import fees, or highly overpriced (each self-pub book being the price of 3-4 traditionally published books). So even though I do want very much to read all of the self-pub books you regularly mention, it's difficult to get a physical copy of the prohibitively priced books themselves, and thus they keep getting pushed back in the TBR since I keep buying more traditionally published books and feel like I should read them first since I already paid money for them. I'm glad the authors are able to get better profits going the self-pub route, but this grossly limits their exposure in a majority of countries of the world. Not everyone can spare the money to import a grossly overpriced copy of a self-published book at the price they can buy 3-4 traditionally published books in.
@DashWatson - thanks for bringing up the issue about overpriced self-pub PRINT books in India. This long-standing problem exists because retailers like Amazon do not allow self-pub authors to set the price of print books on Amazon India (although allowed in UK, US, EU, CA, AU, JP). Hence, the price of print books (on Amazon India) gets set to the INR equivalent of the USD price - making them prohibitively expensive. In contrast, Amazon does allow trad publishing companies to set the price of print books, in India, that is acceptable to Indian readers. Secondly, unlike trad publishing companies, self-pub authors have limited distribution channels (where books are sold) outside Amazon India. Flipkart may be an option for you, but there are too many "links in the chain" to get print books onto Flipkart - which results in them being overpriced. Good news - There is a new print-on-demand company that operates mainly in the UK and US. They are planning to extend their printing operations to India soon. Once that happens self-pub authors will have the ability to price print books appropriately for Indian readers, in the near future. On a different note: consider reading self-pub EBOOKS from authors whom you like. Self-pub authors do have the ability to set the price on Amazon India (usually 50-75% of the USD price) - so you'll find that acceptable. Cheers!😃
It's not only in India. I'm in Indonesia, and self-published books are super expensive to buy. IF they're available. But you can still access them using ebooks. That's what I do.
All of those besides The Councillor were already on my TBR as high priority reads (The Councillor there too now) and I am going to read Memory, Sorrow and Thorn very soon!
The best under hyped series I've read is The West Of West trilogy by Angus Watson, You Die When You Die being the first book. Also, you mention the Ember Blade but the Ketty Jay series by the same author is excellent. Neither has been mentioned by any reviewer that I've seen but they certainly deserve more attention.
Glad to see you are enjoying Scotland, Petrik! «Dandelion Dynasty» & «Memory, Sorrow & Thorn»: ❤🤩! Also have «The Last War» Trilogy on my Winter TBR and «Dreams of the Dying» on my longterm TBR! Cheers chaps!

Thank you for this video! I'll definitely check these books out. My two underrated series are The queen's thief, by Megan Whallen Turner, and the Rai Kira trilogy by Carol Berg. The first is a fun political fantasy with great characters and awesome banter, the second has an interesting world building and culture, and great dynamics of the main protagonists that reminds me of the dynamics between Merlin and prince Arthur in bbc's Merlin.
You're welcome! And thank you for your recommendation. The two series you mentioned... I heard many great things about them. The Rai-kirah trilogy seems vastly underrated. From what I heard anyway. But can't be fault, too. The cover art is so outdated now. :')
@PetrikLeo haha! I think the Rai Kirah series is cursed by bad covers, not only in english but in any language its translated into 😅 I absolutely judge books by their covers, but I'm glad I tried this one, it's one of my favorites, and its the reason I chose to learn scriptwriting, hoping to one day be able to turn it into a movie. Though that didn't happen, I owe it my love for writing

I had my whole year of reading planned out but I finally got my subscription to Broken Binding and that has quickly changed things. Read Of Blood & Bone series by John Gwynne before I got the special editions and I started The Dragonbone chair today with the upcoming subscription series. So far so good.
Dandelion Dynasty - A very good series of which I have read three quarters, and will finish this year, but unfortunately it has left me feeling a bit cold and distant. Totally forgotten by you: The Dagger and the Coin and Long Price Quartet by Daniel Abraham.
I watch too much booktube :D I tend to forget that many of the authors that I'm very familiar with (thanks to all of y'all ;) ) don't get the same amount of love in the mainstream. :P
There are alot of under rated authors out there maybe for starters, you could create a submission media for self publishers out there. Try out new flavours, my writing dream died immediately after knowing that English wasn't my best language and how would I get money for translation let alone editors so hope this will be a good platform for me. 😢
I recently read Rise of the Ranger and I liked it, but I didn’t really like the writing style. Hoping it improves as the books go on, but it was still really good.
I would throw Sun Eater on there. I know its gained a ton of popularity this year, but it is still criminally underrated. It might have taken the top spot as my favorite series of all time.
@@PetrikLeo oh would appreciate if u can finish the book 2 too and post a review. Bcoz of u many can still enjoy it. That's an underrated book too in my opinion

Definitely give the second book a try first. I think it's a big step up. If you still don't like it, feel free to drop the series. It's basically a series of 3 trilogies. :)

@@dorgeousmac9478 thank you so much! Haha, books are still far less popular compared to movies and video games. But it is certainly one of my favorite forms of escapism. 😁
I read the dragon bone chair serie from like 15 to 19 and I fucking loved it. I tried to read it once more at 24 and I’m hating it the first books, like I can’t
Tide Child is such a great trilogy. To anyone considering it, Im not sure id consider it as difficult to read as most epic fantasy. I'd pose this as a series to get people into nautical fantasy. And if the idea of nautical fantasy puts you off.. Consider what you'd think about a nautical fantasy set in a matriarchical society. Definitely turns things on their head.
The only thing jarring about the Dandelion Dynasty is the long explanations of how some mechanisms work. Like I'm no visual reader anyway so it's just a word salad for me😂
i have yet to see anyone talk about the main story line for The Sword of Truth series. I could not get into any of his side stuff for the world but the main story is phenomenal.
@PetrikLeo that's fair it seemed to have a 50/50 amount of like to dislike from what I could see in liking it. Doing a great job with the videos I've added alot of series/books to read from your suggestions.
I have one huge problem with last war and that includes sth about the last book but I can't say cuz it's a big part of the book and would be a spoiler but I think most know what I mean
I probably have an idea, too. I think the last book is the weakest of the trilogy. It's still a great book, though! But I'm not a fan of how the main villain is defeated.
@@syedtalha1892 that is not too underhyped now, i think. The sales for the series is immense, and people are talking about it a lot on bookish social media. 😂
The Councilor was the most disappointing book I read last year. Had it not been recommended I would have abandoned it entirely, but I forced myself to the end. I love political and day in the life fantasies but it did not work for me.
I’m sorry but I very strongly disagree here, @petrikleo. None of these series are under hyped. Everyone on the book tube, booktok, Reddit or fantasy community knows about them. Well, if a series sells 2 million books then it’s not really underhyped, is it? I’d say Fire Sacrament by Robert VS reddick, Runelords, Vlad taltos, Shadows of the apt, the divine cities, dagger and the coin - these are the real underrated but technically amazing fantasy series.
All of them are popular? 😅 I mean, fair on Memory Sorrow and Thorn and Echoes Saga, but The Ember Blade? Who on booktube talks about the book other than a few people. Fewer people talks about it on booktok and Reddit. You mentioned The Dagger and the Coin, but most of the series are about the same in poularity as Dagger and the Coin. I, Matt, and Jimmy talks about the series a lot. By your definition, it's no longer underhyped then? 🙂 The Councillor is even on the verge of cancellation because too few people reads it. Guess we do have to disagree. 🙂 But I do agree Dagger and the Coin and Fire Sacraments are underhyped series. Divine Cities is an amazing series, and I think it's underhyped too, but it's more popular and the sales are still better than Ember Blade, Councillor, and The Last War trilogy. To mention a few. 🙂

If you love the trope and characters of John Gwynne's books, I have a feeling you'll love Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn as well. Enjoy! :)
Petrik, you forgot the ash and sand trilogy! i think you best underhyped recommendation that was unknown and outstanding
@@rtd1859 arghhh dammit. You're totally right. I should've mentioned that as well!
Dandelion Dynasty - A very good series of which I have read three quarters, and will finish this year, but unfortunately it has left me feeling a bit cold and distant.
Totally forgotten by you: The Dagger and the Coin and Long Price Quartet by Daniel Abraham.
@@toinenosoite3173 There are MANY underrated series. I couldn't mention them all here. Agreed on Dagger and the Coin, though!
I watch too much booktube :D I tend to forget that many of the authors that I'm very familiar with (thanks to all of y'all ;) ) don't get the same amount of love in the mainstream. :P
Yeahhh. It's easy to forget that. Booktube is relatively a small section of the entire market. 😂
There are alot of under rated authors out there maybe for starters, you could create a submission media for self publishers out there. Try out new flavours, my writing dream died immediately after knowing that English wasn't my best language and how would I get money for translation let alone editors so hope this will be a good platform for me. 😢
That's true. There are so many self-published series that aren't hyped enough. :)
I recently read Rise of the Ranger and I liked it, but I didn’t really like the writing style. Hoping it improves as the books go on, but it was still really good.
@@misternegative4918 the writing does improve as the series goes! 😁
Like 5 of these are on my TBR smh 🤦♂😂haha. Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn is an incredible book!!!
I TOTALLY AGREE! 😁😁
I would highly recommend The Price of Power by Michael Michel. And books 2 and 3 of the series will be coming out early next year!
I recently read The Price of Power! It's good. I have a feeling the sequels will be better!
I would throw Sun Eater on there. I know its gained a ton of popularity this year, but it is still criminally underrated. It might have taken the top spot as my favorite series of all time.
@@hunterramey8180 it's one of my favorite series of all time! But its popularity now is incredible. I can't put it in underhyped anymore. 😂
I am on the first chapter of the Echoes Saga,so I am thrilled to see it being recommended
@@davidblandin8139 it keeps getting better! Enjoy! 😁
@@PetrikLeo Thanks Petrik,I can't wait
I love the way the cover for the Illborn book is just a straight copy of Anduril from the Return of the King film 🤣
You got it. 😂😂
I love the Echoes Saga. I thought it got better with each book. I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy the second trilogy as much. However it was great!
Second trilogy is even better than the first imo. Alijah is a fascinating character!
Hey is the series worth continuing after the first book? I want to love the series but idk if I should keep going
I love The Bone Ships trilogy!
Great trilogy!!
All time amazing team up! So Cool!
@@Talking_Story thank you! Maybe we can make one too someday!
@@PetrikLeo Maybe if you make it Dragonsteel?
Or just with the power of the internet would be amazing to actually talk with you someday!
Have you guys read the Empire of the Vampire series.. I don't see any big book tuber talk abt it.
@@gjram8807 i've read the first book. Enjoyed it. But forgot to post a review here 😅
@@PetrikLeo oh would appreciate if u can finish the book 2 too and post a review. Bcoz of u many can still enjoy it. That's an underrated book too in my opinion
Maybe some day in the distant future I will have finished the cosmere marathon and will be allowed to read something else... but today is not that day ;p
So far you have not led me astray Petrik, so I keep stacking books in my shelves, dreaming of the day I will be able to read books that are not 1300 pages long ;p
Thank you so much! Haha, I'm really behind on my reading, too. And yet, I keep wanting to read all these tome that takes longer to read. xD
What about Shadowmarch Series by Tad Williams? Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn is already pretty famous, but nobody talks about Shadowmarch.
I need to read it first! After Osten Ard Saga!
Can anyone tell me if the echoes saga is worth continuing? I read the first book and it was okay but I really want to love it
Definitely give the second book a try first. I think it's a big step up. If you still don't like it, feel free to drop the series. It's basically a series of 3 trilogies. :)
@@PetrikLeo thank you! I got the book on kindle and I am liking it quite a lot so far 👍
A great collab ❤
Thank you very much! 😄
Both you guys are fun to watch. Love your channels, best book recommendations. Books have taken over from movies and video games, there's just so much good content
That's odd! Most readers I know seem to enjoy it more on reread. 😂
For me, it's probably because I'm not a fan nautical fantasy in general. That's most likely why it was more difficult for me 😆
Me neither. Tide Child is my #1 exception 😂
The only thing jarring about the Dandelion Dynasty is the long explanations of how some mechanisms work. Like I'm no visual reader anyway so it's just a word salad for me😂
@@aysseralwan hahaha that's fair! I love the explanations of the mechanism. But I can see how that put people off. 😂
Dandellion is amazing
@@alexpresser132 true that!
I've noticed an uptick in attention to MST very recently
@@FrshChees91 As it should be! 😁
i have yet to see anyone talk about the main story line for The Sword of Truth series. I could not get into any of his side stuff for the world but the main story is phenomenal.
I tried only the first book couldn't get into it back then!
@PetrikLeo that's fair it seemed to have a 50/50 amount of like to dislike from what I could see in liking it. Doing a great job with the videos I've added alot of series/books to read from your suggestions.
WHERE IS THE FIVE WARRIOR ANGELS BY BRIAN LEE DURFEE
@@doubleyou8589 too many underrated series unmentioned tbh. We only chose 10. 😅
@@PetrikLeo thank you for taking time to respond to me 🥹
No one talks about the Crimson Empire series by Alex Marshall…seriously…it’s very good!
@@markdoucette6828 I need to buy the books and then read it first. 😅
You forgot the bound and the broken
@@syedtalha1892 that is not too underhyped now, i think. The sales for the series is immense, and people are talking about it a lot on bookish social media. 😂
So many books to read, but do little time.
@@jadapandy i feel the pain everyday. 🥲
@@PetrikLeo Only read first 3 Echoes books and loved them! Have next book, but have so many others to get to, it sometimes drives me nuts. Lol!
I loved Memory, Sorrow & Thorn and the Illborn Saga and disliked The Last War and The Ember Blade.
At least some of the rec click with you! 😁
The problem with Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn is it's really slow to start.
I actually really love the slow moments of the series! 😄
Peeeetrik
Zeeeennn!!
The Councilor was the most disappointing book I read last year. Had it not been recommended I would have abandoned it entirely, but I forced myself to the end. I love political and day in the life fantasies but it did not work for me.
I think the Councilor came to me at the exact right time. I'm not sure I'd enjoy it as much on reread! :)
And of course, everything by Janny Wurts
@@パンダの死体 Riftwar Empire trilogy is my pick!
@@PetrikLeo mine would definitely be Wars of Light and Shadow (:
