For someone to ask for money back after the deal is done, and especially to include a comment regarding continued positive feedback if you do as he asks, is unfair on his part. The person that you gave the discount to asked prior to the sale, and you had a chance to consider his request before the sale was made. With this guy, you're basically being asked to comply with his request, or risk receiving a less than complimentary review if you refuse. If you do this for him, you risk having all sorts of people trying to hit you up after purchases have been made coming at you like vultures. Besides, what this guy is asking for is actually twice the amount of what the discount that the other guy got. (Just because you gave someone a discount on one item doesn't mean you'd do it on two items.) Pretty nervy ... so I'd say "No Dice!" Love your channel!!
As an Ebay seller since 2000, I would try to work with the customer. The problem is the last part Vicky mentioned about he would like to leave you positive feedback. I would say that is an implied threat. If you did get negative from the buyer and you have that proof of threat, I think Ebay would not only remove the negative, but possibly even suspend the buyer who made the threat. On the other hand, if you have a standard return policy, what stops him from just returning the shoes and possibly getting a full refund? I would probably compromise and offer him half of the shipping costs which should be $20 since there is no price guarantee on Ebay. You have done nothing wrong.
Yeah.... feedback threats is an automatic deal killer. My response would be: "I'm sorry your not happy with your purchase decision. Feel free to open a return request."....
when buyer purchased the item (shoes), buyer agreed to the selling price at that time. that is how buying/selling works. if buyer wanted a discount then buyer should have asked before making the purchase. Asking after the fact I guess doesn't hurt, but buyer agreed to the price at the point of sale and doesn't deserve a discount. either return the item or make sure to ask before hand next time. lesson for the buyer.
I have a EBay store and I have had this very similar thing happen, what I did was I told the gentleman to look at my store now or in future and the next purchase he made from me I would make him happy with that purchase and give him very good discount. That’s a win win for me. Cause I didn’t give him any money back from previous sale, and the next thing he bought I still made money after discount just not as much and the customer was happy with that. He actually came back for a third purchase. I actually gave him a little kick back on that as well for returning. I think that this what I did would be the best case if it could possibly go down like that! Even if you don’t have any shoes left for him to buy perhaps he could find something else to buy, or even give the guy some store credit. The key is to get him to trust you and come back and purchase from you!
Pete and Vicky I loved this video. For the golf club buyer to pay for shipping, what I have done is set up an ebay listing for the shipping cost only. The buyer can then purchase the shipping from the listing and you can re-ship the item, If there is an issue with the buyer reporting an item not received case with the original transaction, you will have the communication to back you up in the event of a dispute. Hopefully that makes sense. For the shoe buyer, I would offer him a discount on the final pair of shoes or another item. And not offer any cash back on the past purchase
I would call eBay and report him for attempted feedback extortion. eBay will shut that down quickly and block him from interacting with you. I don’t tolerate that sort of behavior, problem customers will just be further problems down the road.
WELL DONE! I love that that happened! Suggestion regarding the video. Please leave the inserted photos and screenshots up longer so viewers can read them. They disappear much too fast, and there isn’t even enough time to pause the video to read them.
I wouldn’t give any refund, if I buy something at Walmart or Best Buy and it goes on sale a couple weeks later I don’t get money back. That’s feedback extortion ignore him.
You can always ask eBay to remove negative feedback if you think it is unjust. I wouldn’t deal with him ever again because of the last comment he made. No one forces him to buy from you. Shipping costs what shipping costs u cannot change that. Also you need to make money too.
I love to engage the unhappy buyer further. I would ask him to clarify that last statement so you understand him better. I know he will further sink his own ship. Obviously your covered. The damage for him is already done. I personally would not accommodate his request only because of his last statement.
Ebay will remove that negative that is extortion for positive feedback!! Anyone can send a message to a seller and ask what is the best price they will take. Even if you don't have best offer on. I would not reply. Love the video Pete!!
Although Pete has more pull than the average ebayer, I'm not certain they would remove it. Comment wasn't explicit enough. Also, "acceptable" negative feedback can be about anything. Perhaps best not to engage, especially with second pair still in transit.
The guy bought the shoes without issue. It doesn't matter what someone else paid. He was good with the price. Done. If he wants the 3rd pair I would charge him more. Or go buy the shoes somewhere else.
I would ignore they buyer. Other transactions have nothing to do with him, he is threating with negative feedback. If he is trolling your sold listings and using that against you, He does not know what your costs are and you can sell the shoes at whatever price you want. If he is not happy he can return the shoes and buy them else where. As for the golf club, you need to refund him, you lose the fees. Then you need to relist it for him to buy it again, and then ship it to the new address.
For the fellow with the shoes; I would simply tell him: "Thank you for being a valued customer we appreciate your business; however the time to negotiate the price is prior to the sale being competed NOT after." And let it go at that. If he chooses to leave a negative feedback; report him to ebay and have it removed. Then block him as a buyer.
I immediately report this behavior to eBay. He is most certainly violating one or more policies. People don’t realize how incriminating they are of oneself when they use such language! 🤣 It always makes me laugh.
If you find out your neighbour got the same model car for $1000 cheaper, do you think the dealer will refund you the difference? NO! Bad luck to him! It’s NOT his concern who you sell to and how much for!
I had shipped an item that was returned to me due to "no such address". Buyer's error. I spoke to eBay and they said that as far as they are concerned the transaction is complete and delivered EVENTHOUGH the item shows it was returned to me. I reprinted/repurchased a new label through eBay shipping with the new address that the buyer emailed me (this will automatically update tracking in eBay system). The buyer agreed to pay me for 2nd shipping cost via PayPal invoice... which I asked eBay about and they said that is also allowed. Furthermore, eBay informed me that even if buyer was unsatisfied and left negative feedback, eBay would remove the negative feedback bc it was the buyer's original mistake. love your channel. Thanx Esa
some people have way too much time on their hands... I would offer a discount on the next item he purchased from you.... Also not a fan of the buyers holding feedback over a sellers head so he can KMA...
I agree with Bill Ramsey. Offer a discount on/or free shipping for the next item(s) the customer purchases. This offer lets the customer know you took his concern seriously and to get that benefit the customer has to be a repeat buyer. The shoes are a done deal, so I don't think he can expect any type of refund etc on those. I really didn't feel the line about feedback was meant maliciously. Maybe when buying the second pair he thought if there was a best offer option he might make an lower offer because he was buying 2 pairs in 2 days, then saw someone else was given that option. The way you explained it in this video made total sense, so emailing him that info turn this into a positive customer relation. Hey, he liked pretty much everything about the transaction except that one thing. Just came across your videos while chilling this Sat. morning and I'm lovin' it!
That's like saying if you buy an item in a grocery store for $10 , and next week it goes on sale at 1/2 price you should be able to get a refund. I worked at a store and people tried that all the time and we never never did it. People would have abused us out of buisness if we gave in once.
Exactly. The guy is completely wrong for trying to get money back retroactively. It's even worse when you realize he's doing feedback extortion as well.
It's called price matching and stores do it all the time. I bought school supplies at target but the next day they went on sale. I went back and they adjusted the price. Fairly normal practice.
No way I would offer any kind of discount AFTER the fact. And I would block them from future purchases since he's attempting to extort your feedback. No one needs jerk buyers like that.
Screw that dude, he had an agreement with y’all TWICE and was happy with it until reading your sold ads?!? And what basis will his negative review be? “Someone else got a better deal than I did?” Nah…don’t do it Pete! 🤘🤪🎸
I had a seller once sold me Dre Beats used for 26 dollars. Later to find out after I paid and waited the seller backed out and sent me a message saying that he sold them locally with a full refund. Crazy that he could back out and tell me Sorry when I won the bidding. All because he didn't get the price that he wanted. love the shirt Pete!
Yeah, you can report them. Enough of that nonsense and they won't be buying or selling on ebay long. I've seen it time and again with people obviously scamming, both on the buying and selling side, which this kind of borders on. It pays to read feedback, and stick to sellers at least 98% and above. There are legitimate reasons this could happen, but "I sold it" is not one of them. I broke it, OK (when they did) but that is going to happen very very infrequently.
Pete keep in mind while we like to retain our customers, some customers are just not worth the hassle. If this person tried this once, who knows what will come next from them. At least with this situation you have your sided covered. You cannot please them all my friend!
Yes I have had similar situations and I am a firm believer that everything good will always come out from everything bad if we are able to slow down long enough and see it and take the appropriate action.
I’d tell the Vans buyer to go pound sand. He bought it (twice) for an amount that he considered to be fair, and now he wants a partial refund because he thinks he was treated unfairly!?!? Typical equity seeking liberal POS customer. He has zero business coming at you for a partial refund. Period. The positive feedback remark he made should cement the deal. He’s threatening you with negative feedback, but eBay will delete it once they see that email.
If you buy a car from a dealer and then the next weekend they run a sale, deal is already done, you got what you paid for. If you want a deal AHEAD of the purchase ASK! The guy has an entitlement attitude. Send him a coupon towards FUTURE purchases. Second package(wrong address) resend direct through post office COD for the $10 shipping. Leave eBay out of it this time(they got their money already).
@@droo3010 Nope, and don't need to, feedback extortion threats for bad reviews are removed if you ask, it's that simple. Any smart enlightened person would rather do that, I'm guessing. We do. It always pays to know policy. On the few conflicts we've had on sales ebay has sided with us every time...helps to keep meticulous documentation, as well. We video every packing to show exactly what was sent, etc.
@@MrJdsenior threats ? Lol please stop yourself and lower your ego just a bit. Any smart person would asked for that discount that the others got yea. And keeping with the positives reviews is a very fair way to say it. Just depends if you act like a girl or a man about it. But def a BAD seller if he got offended by that. How careful does he need to be that he can’t even say what’s on his mind
I totally agree. He could have said he will give positive feedback either way. I think that would have won Pete over, and gotten him the full $40 refund … 🤷🏻♂️
Don't refund anything for the shoes. When you have 4 pairs sitting there and someone asks for a deal so you give it to him to start moving a product, that makes sense. Now you have only 3 pair and you choose to sell them at full price. That's business. Stores can't refund money because because someone heard that their friend bought it for less on sale. Especially don't bow down to review threats.
Hi Pete: You did nothing wrong on your Ebay sale. Your 2 pair shoe buyer must of thought the price was right and made the purchase not once but twice. You made a special offer before the purchase with a viewer buyer , and that's great. On Ebay listings anybody can email an offer even without the "Make Offer" button, then the seller can respond with an official offer. I always consider offers but rarely have it in my listings. I wouldn't refund him anything , especially after his extortion attempt. As a nice guy you could send him a "coupon" with a discount on a future purchase. Feed back threats and extortion is a bad, bad, bad thing. I would block the buyer . I have printed another shipping label for a item that got lost, but I didn't need to collect any additional money, tracking showed for 2 labels. Enjoy your video's. Wish I had a helper like Vicky. 😊
Give the shoe buyer a discount coupon to your ebay store for any future purchase. That way you're getting another sale and he feels like he's getting a deal.
Tell him you will sell him the 3rd pair for $80. I once mixed up 2 packages one was a $400.00 item the other a $25.00 both people were very understanding. I was sick for 2 days until it was settled. Thanks for the videos.
I would follow the ebay rules to protect your business. When situations like this happen there is a chance for fallout, however you can never go wrong doing what is right. By the way Pete and Vicky this was an extremely good video.
Yeah? Ebay rules prohibit feedback extortion...so I agree, and it fully takes care of this nonsense. Asking before is fine. Demanding afterward with threats on bad feedback is most certainly NOT. If he hasn't worn them he can return them, at which time if it were me (actually either way) I would add him to my no bid, no buy list. Problem solved, and no future BS to put up with, at least not from customers like him. When people make offers I always look up their feedback to others, we save a lot of headaches by just denying the offer and adding their names, as well. I would rather not sell something any day of the week than put up with crap, or returns on something accurately described, for selling something in good faith.
there is no way to send an invoice get additional shipping cost but you should be able to add tracking to the order so it shows ebay it was shipped and you will have shipping proof.

That’s feedback extortion. eBay should remove negative feedback. I’d probably give him $20 back for shipping. Unfortunately it’s a cost of doing business.
On the bad address returned, create a new listing to buy the new postage (include fees in the price), and use the tracking number for both your previous order and the new one (combined shipping).
I am sorry but this should not be partial refund to the guy that bought the shoes. I can not believe he even asked. Most of all the way he sends a shuttle threat about good reviews. You two are great! Love what you help us with and just love watching you😊❤️🙏🇺🇸
THANK YOU. This return with customer still wanting has actually happened to me twice. I ended up eating the cost to resend the item both times. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Maybe eBay will hear your/our plea!
For the San wedge you’re right eBay has made an oversight here. I always send it out of pocket and tell them to donate the shipping amount to their favourite charity.
I would not refund him as he threatened you with negative feedback. Its feedback extortion very clearly. He's asking after the fact with a threat of bad feedback. Never reward that type of behavior. Good luck Pete!
you can purchase another label on the same transaction and you will have record with the new tracking number, you can edit his address when purchasing new label. But you should do that after you get your shipping money over the phone or paypal invoice. Or just Venmo you:)
I used to work for a Fortune 500 company as a marketing analyst, so I know that repeat buyers are very expensive to acquire so you don’t want to piss them off. But the feedback extortion is definitely a mitigating factor. I’d split the difference and give him the free shipping on the second order but not the first. I also had a recent address problem return ( me on west coast, customer on east coast, shipping label $18]. It was a big mess, and I winded up eating the cost of the label. Cost of doing business.
I would have absolutely 100% given that shoe discount without second thought until I read that last sentence regarding feedback extortion. I would specifically quote that threat in my rejection reply to make it easier on eBay staff to recognize. As Willy Wonka said, "You get nothing! Good day, sir".
It was a lesson he paid to learn. Going forward, he knows to ask for a discount before the purchase. I think it's rather rude for him to insinuate that he would provide negative feedback if you didn't provide a discount. It's your business, you can give a discount to whomever you wish, whenever you choose. That doesn't mean that I am entitled to one too.
That is feedback extortion! This buyer needs reported to eBay. eBay has clear instructions when there is feedback extortion. Had this buyer simply contacted you asking about a potential discount that would have been ok, but the moment he added the feedback threat he crossed the line.

"When you're out at garage sales, don't just assume that there is a live turkey in that box."
The guy with the shoes? 😡 Forget it, he is definitely trying to extort you. Do it once and you will have more that follow, you set a precedent.
Yeah.... feedback threats is an automatic deal killer.
He was so satisfied with the deal that he bought them twice at your original price and now he's pissy about it and threatening you? Screw that guy.
You two work very well together, and they say couples should not work together!!
Keep the guy happy, especially if you're still making a little money. I think it might lead to more business from the guy...but it's your call
WELL DONE! I love that that happened! Suggestion regarding the video. Please leave the inserted photos and screenshots up longer so viewers can read them. They disappear much too fast, and there isn’t even enough time to pause the video to read them.
No discount. You sold him two good pairs of shoes in good faith.👏👏 His last sentence was clearly a threat. Not a good guy. 😮
Pete, that's feedback extortion! It is a violation of EBay policy! Block that member and move on! Don't refund!
At first I thought maybe you should send him a $10 - $20 refund. Keep the customer happy. Then Vickey read the last line and that changed my mind.
I would not refund him. Thats totally feedback extortion and eBay will side with you if he unfairly decides to give you negative feedback!!
I agree. There is a place in Sellers area to request Feedback removed. No way refund. He gave you good feedback once! Can't change that!
I would reply that you considered his request until the threat of reviews
For the fellow with the shoes; I would simply tell him:
"Thank you for being a valued customer we appreciate your business; however the time to negotiate the price is prior to the sale being competed NOT after."
And let it go at that.
That was perfect it looked like Vicky was interviewing you for a job lol 😆
Thanx
Esa
some people have way too much time on their hands...
When I have to address something for the turd time, I'm done playing games! LOL.
You guys are the best! I hate scammers & thieves!
Nope. No refund. Had he not said the last sentence, I would have given him $20.00 discount on one.
I agree
All because he didn't get the price that he wanted. love the
shirt Pete!
HE LIKED ▪︎ HE BOUGHT▪︎ HE RECEIVED ... *done deal* 👋🤪🤙
Conversely, dealers have been known to go after customers wanting the car back or more money.
That last part of his message kills it for me, otherwise I would have considered it.
Any smart person would give a fair discount over a negative review. Be mature
At least he tells you before he wrote a negative review about the deal that he ain’t satisfied. Guess it depends what kind of person you are, what angle you see things from. But def a BAD seller if he got offended by that. How careful does he need to be that he can’t even say what’s on his mind
I totally agree. He could have said he will give positive feedback either way. I think that would have won Pete over, and gotten him the full $40 refund … 🤷🏻♂️
eBay really needs to add an option to invoice a customer for extra shipping, re-shipping, etc.
Lol, Vicky, “welcome back to the team.” 🤝 😂
For the shoes, let him know the arrangement was in advance let him know you will honor the same discount on his next purchase.
Great idea.
Offer him a third pair for 20% off with free shipping. He's happy and you had an amazing flip. Not to mention a customer for life.
Give the shoe buyer a discount coupon to your ebay store for any future purchase. That way you're getting another sale and he feels like he's getting a deal.
That box that the Marx toy lot was in is from HO-KA turkey farm. Pete did you ever go to Waterman and pick up a fresh HO-KA turkey? They are amazing.
Tell him you will sell him the 3rd pair for $80. I once mixed up 2 packages one was a $400.00 item the other a $25.00 both people were very understanding. I was sick for 2 days until it was settled. Thanks for the videos.
Love y’all and Chi-town! Been there all my life as my Mom grew up there! Love the City!
I almost said give him a shipping refund until he tried to strong arm you politely to keep your positive feedback .
Vickie is spot on, Kevin kinda went about it wrong. Perhaps for the sake of peace offer him 10%?
there is no way to send an invoice get additional shipping cost but you should be able to add tracking to the order so it shows ebay it was shipped and you will have shipping proof.
Love your channel been a fan for a long time really enjoy it thx Pete and everyone there
Pete, vicky has one of the Best personality "ever" you hit gold when you employed her she's awesome always with a positive attitude 😄 😊 👍 helps put everyone in a good mood!
i would of gave the refund until he threatened your feedback smh. but you still want to keep the customer happy...so its up to you tbh.
That’s feedback extortion. eBay should remove negative feedback. I’d probably give him $20 back for shipping. Unfortunately it’s a cost of doing business.
This cheese ball has guts. Should have negotiated before the purchase not after. It would be a big NO from me
Isn't asking for a partial refund against the TOS? And feedback extortion definitely is.
When you re-ship just do buy another label on the item and the tracking updates for that listing.
If he wanted it he should have reached out and asked. Do not refund him.
On the bad address returned, create a new listing to buy the new postage (include fees in the price), and use the tracking number for both your previous order and the new one (combined shipping).
Remember not to send another soup bowl - cool video.
I agree with you Peter he is a repeat customer and make him happy.. your that kind of person it’ll come back to you
I am sorry but this should not be partial refund to the guy that bought the shoes.
Just dispute and tell ebay the circumstance. Should be refunded all communication with buyer through eBays messaging
🤝 "Yes, uhhhh, thank you for the re-hire." 😂
Buying boxes of air, selling empty boxes. Pete, you’re living the life.
12.50 watch the tree shelf in the backround 3.05 its no longer a shelf, looks like the same room, trippy!
That last line oh what a snake you’re probably going to make him happy but what a snake
Give him a discount on the second pair of shoes. Cause that is when he realized it. If he is still not happy that is on him.
That is feedback extortion! This buyer needs reported to eBay. eBay has clear instructions when there is feedback extortion. Had this buyer simply contacted you asking about a potential discount that would have been ok, but the moment he added the feedback threat he crossed the line.
Is the gentleman that is asking for the retro discount a longtime follower? I'm guessing not because we all know you try to accommodate us if we ask for a discount or $ off.
This was an inspiring video and quite educational.
Thanks Pete and Vicky. Always good to see you working together 😊
Hey Pete, did you scare your wife off? 😇🤪😂
