  • The Sony X95J is a 4k TV with an LED backlight and full-array local dimming feature. Released as part of Sony's 2021 BRAVIA XR lineup, it's Sony's flagship 4k LED model and replaces the Sony X950H. It delivers an impressive experience, with excellent peak brightness in HDR, an amazing local dimming feature, and amazing gradient handling. Like many flagship LED-backlit models from different brands, it has an additional filter layer that improves viewing angles, but this comes at the expense of contrast, which is a bit low for a VA TV. Like the Sony X90J, it can't quite display a wide color gamut, but we don't expect most people to notice this.

    For me the X95J is the better TV in a mid bright room between X95J and QN95A. The local dimming and the Dolby Vision together with price difference of 500€ does clear up all discussion in my opinion. I am referring to the 75" model btw. and the QN90A here in germany is named QN95A

    Very happy to see Daniel back doing reviews. Great new look going on there.
    Blooming and lack of zones on this X95j makes it hard to justify buying, let alone the disastrous release of Sony's VRR software release causing havoc on many Sony models. Most reviewers are warning people not to download, especially people who own the X900h model.

The X95J is a bit better for gaming, though, with two HDMI 2.1 ports, and it's supposed to receive an update for variable refresh rate support later in the year." Have you ever looked at how dark the TV panels are when turned off? I used to manage a store much like a Best Buy, but a lot busier. I noticed when I opening that the TV's along the wall were different, some panels looked lighter than others, more grayish. Then I realized that none of those TVs will ever show a black darker than what the panel looks like turned off. I would think that would be a fast way for people to check potential black levels when in the store.

    • @KaoruSugimura
      @KaoruSugimura 2 роки тому +4

      That's probably because they weren't turned off but we're instead in a low power state sleep mode. This leaves the backlight/edgelight on and can cause very noticeable grey in the screen when the lights are off. (Much harder to notice with ambient light)

    Hey Guys, what is your recommendations; Samsung 65QN90A (in Europe is 91A with VA panel) or Sony 65X95J? Mostly for cable TV (70%), Netflix (15%), PS5 (15%). Sony is priced 300€ more.

    • @RTINGSdotcom
      @RTINGSdotcom  Рік тому

      Hey Pawel!
      The Samsung QN90A QLED is better than the Sony X95J, but if you really care about an accurate movie experience, some people might prefer the Sony. The Samsung has much better black uniformity and better contrast, but the Sony has a better local dimming feature, despite the Mini LED backlight on the Samsung. On the other hand, some people might prefer the Sony for watching HDR movies, as it tracks the EOTF more accurately, and many people prefer the processing on Sony TVs. As you mentioned though, the Samsung QN90A is different in Europe. So, that means our review isn't valid for the European QN90A, as the European equivalent is the QN94A, while the QN95A in Europe is similar but uses the One Connect Box. Assuming you get one of the comparable models though, then the above stands. Which means that if you care about an accurate movie experience, then you may want to go for the X95J, otherwise the QN90A is better overall!

  • @SemisonicDND
    @SemisonicDND 2 роки тому +1

    I think you need to test the 85" Q80A. Being a VA panel, the blacks look amazing and it gets bright enough that I have to turn the brightness down when it's dark. The local dimming works great. I have no way of testing it, but it really is an outstanding tv. Personally, I feel it's the best big screen (price/feature wise) tv out there, 2nd only to OLED. This X95J looks promising, too, but the lack of readily available VRR is one of the reasons why I didn't get it over the Sammy.

    • @Jordanfiend361
      @Jordanfiend361 2 роки тому +1

      You chose wrong as far as accurate goes . The Samsung does it’s own thing. It Don’t follow and eotf tracking at all. Colors way over saturated. Inaccurate. Als o black crush is bad on that tv. But hey everyone bit the same. Some folks like inaccurate over saturated colors and that’s ok.

      i did the same got the 95 3 times last few months and i just can’t keep it, ya motion is best on the market but eh sony cutting corners like they did with x90j, gaming is crap ain’t no reason todays tv need to have a 19ms input lag qn90a has 10 and sony could do it easy, also don’t like sony tvs that have dull colors which this is probably best sony colors next to x950H, but eh samsung just has way better colors even tho there technically over saturated LOL but i like that, brightness is definitely something sony needs to work on, movie mode was just to dim for bright rooms wasint bad but qn90a does way better without losing details, game mode unlike samsung tvs doeisnt have a judder/stutter control couldn’t even play some ps3 games because judder was so bad, only 60 dim zones which is sony half ass cutting corners again qn90a has 730 and most of the time i only noticed SMALL blooming around texts and stuff, x95j had worse blooming then x90j did LOLOL so ya x95J was a flop it’s good tv for maybe $900

  • @greatpix
    @greatpix 2 роки тому +4

    Great 'monitor' review. I say that because TVs, even 4K TVs, have tuners to receive over the air broadcasts and you didn't mention even one word about that. Does it have a tuner? Does it have a Program Guide to see what's being broadcast? Is it an ATSC 1.0 or ATSC 3.0/NextGen tuner? Gosh, maybe Sony gone back to analog tuners from the past!
    In order to make a good decision when buying their next TV I would think your subscribers would like to know more than you are telling them about televisions like this Sony.
    FYI, it does have an ATSC 3.0 (NextGen) tuner, and it can still be used to receive current ATSC 1.0 broadcasts. Other than that I don't know how fast it can program in local stations or if it will pick up as many stations as a Samsung or TCL TV. I don't know what the program guide looks like, or how responsive the program guide is when scrolling. Is it easy to read from across the room? Does the guide cut off titles or does it wrap the text? Does the guide have different colors for the different programming? (i.e. movies are highlighted in one color, news a different color, new programs yet a different color. ) Does the program guide offer a synopsis of the broadcast, mention if it's new or a repeat, show length of show, or just the title? How much information does the program guide offer? How far into the future does it list programming? 7 days, 14 days, more? Does the TV offer instant replay like my TCL P605 does if I plug in an USB memory stick big enough?
    As you can see there are a lot of things you don't cover when testing TV's. That's why I say this is a review of a monitor and not a TV.
