Terrific horsemanship by this King’s Guardsman. He’s an excellent rider. Well done. - He had a rough shift with this poor horse who was unsettled quite often, was banging into the rear doors a few times, had to be walked around and back into the box a few times, and nearly ran into the road when he trotted off unexpectedly (seen in another video). I’m sure this guardsman was very relieved and happy when he could dismount.
@@shairychristian3666 Might have been one of the younger horses. Just didn’t want to stand still for long. They’re only in the sentry boxes and hour but some horses like this one are sometimes feeling more energetic or restless and can be a bit of a handful. It’s also more difficult to control a horse when you can only do it with one hand and when you’re wearing these type of very stiff boots where you can’t feel anything of the horse (according to some interviews with horseguardmen) unlike regular riding boots where you can better feel the horse so you can also control it more with your legs as well as the reins.
@@bethhayes8427 The horse was trying to communicate with the rider that there's a problem. As a horse breeder for a few decades, I learned that it's necessary to listen when a horse acts up. Very first question (and most times the only one needed once it's answered) is "What hurts?" I can't tell you the number of times a horse has misbehaved, I've asked that question, the owner/rider has said nothing, and then they come to me later and tell me what they discovered was hurting and they were writing it off as "not very well trained at all" or "needs more training to fix the problem". If a horse is hurting, all the training in the world isn't going to fix the problem because it's attention will not be focused on the trainer but on what hurts.

Before I started watching these videos, I naively assumed that the box would kept meticulously clean. The filth does not reflect well on the British military or the Royal Family.
Well done horse!even so they obligate the horses to stand on their own shit and on slippery ground! He still managed not to crash on the concrete with he's 550 kg,the guy didn't do nothing,poor horses getting abused everyday!it's a prey animal,it should not be in the city,it's make it a horrible life for these animals!that are no conditions to keep these animals that need space,nature and silence!

Das Pferd ist sehr nervös und ist auch nicht einfach nur an einer Stelle zu stehen auf so einem rutschigen Boden, sie lieben doch lieber die Freiheit auf Weiden zu stehen und auch genug Auslauf haben🙂
It looked like the horse slipped on all the horse poo 💩 that has not been cleaned up regularly. Those stones yhey have to stand on with wet horse poo becomes slippery. I see this to often in these videos. They should out down either sawdust / pine shsvings to stop this ftom happening.
Auch wenn man’s wegräumt… Kopfsteinpflaster ist prinzipiell sehr rutschig, wenn da nur ein Tropfen Wasser oder alternativ eine Schneeflocke drauf fällt. Eigentlich müsste man da Sand hinstreuen. Die Guards fallen ja auf dem gesamten Platz öfter hin, wenn sie dort nur zu Fuß lang gehen (auch dort, wo die Pferde selbst nicht lang gehen). Mag zudem an den Sohlen der Schuhe und den Hufeisen liegen. Glattes Metall und Kopfsteinpflaster vertragen sich nicht gut.

@@christinaberretz8855 Ja, es ist prinzipiell nicht schön für die Pferde. Die sind auch nicht dafür konzipiert, da 1 Stunde rumzustehen. Vielleicht sollte man diese Pferde einem Gnadenhof anvertrauen und stattdessen zukünftig dort nur Menschen platzieren. Obwohl mir die Guards auch leidtun, da die alle als Touristenattraktion herhalten müssen. Ich wünsche Dir ebenfalls einen schönen Sonntag! 💕

I’ve seen a few of these videos and I’ve never seen anyone on ‘poop patrol’. And I’ve seen changes occur without the stalls being cleaned. Its a slipping hazard (as seen in this video), in the hot weather it would be a bug magnet and let’s be honest The Kings Guard on display with poop in their stalls - doesn’t look very good, does it?
The horse didn't slip because of "poo", it was because of his mincing steps and horse shoes on extremely worn smooth cobblestone. There are videos of the guards on foot slipping and falling because of the cobblestone too and no manure in sight. It happens.
@@imadobermom yeah no doubt the smooth surface is contributing factor. Also I’d imagine worn shoes are another one too. Always amazes me how well the guards maintain control during a moment such as this - one handed too!! I’ve had a few moments like this over the years, I handle them well - but it’s a reflex to drop a swear word or two lol!

Horse seems a bit distressed, all the head bobbing and the way he is mouthing the bit and sticking his tongue out could indicate some discomfort from his bit, might be hurting him.

From what I could see is that the horses hoof hit the lower part of the stone wall and slipped. I'm thinking maybe the stall had been rinsed out with water and the horse couldn't get a grip and slipped. They should put foam mats inside of the stalls so the horses can stand comfortably. Great recovery for this guard, and I hope his horse was checked out just to be sure it didn't injure it's self.
Sometimes the youtubers complain of the stench when they are filming! I don't understand why the box is not cleaned after every horse. It really surprised me when I started watching these videos.

Its a spectacular sight to see, with the horse and guard. But surely if you could get into the head of the horse,it would say "Please let's move,im so bored standing here,while your sitting up there, on my back all comfy ". They must get fidgety and feel the need to move. Its still nice to see a Guard stand there, but the horses move!!!!
That wss a close one for the horse who could easily been injured and those paving stones don't really help as they are slippy at the best of times but with manure that's worse glad both are ok both rider and horse are magnificent

If you read through these comments you will see lots of people ask about the time the horses stand in the box and it’s only for one hour then they go back into their stable, relax have a cuppa and a nice plate of oats, hay and maybe a carrot then a doze. Not a bad life, they are totally pampered by the troopers washed, brushed and cared for amazingly well. They even get a little kiss if they are really lucky! They even have vets there for them, so even a little upset they will be checked over. Horses are loved and cared for here.
In the capital of Morocco Rabat we do have the same thing as it is a kingdom too , I mean the horses standing in a certain spot but they made it from the sand to keep them safe 😊 and this is exactly in the entrance of Hassan tower .

Yes, these horses are not very well trained at all. And they should have rubber boots on over those slick horse shoes.

Slippery cobblestones covered in manure. A little extra cleanup in the alcove would be a good idea.

Manure on top of stone or concrete is extremely slick.
Throwing down some sawdust might help reduce it getting slippery. Wonder if they’ve ever considered doing that?

Standing on cobblestones must make their bones ache. A rubber mat would be so much nicer for the horse's.

The ground in that enclosed area needs to be power-washed.It's very dirty and that is why the horse slipped.

Not a bad life, they are totally pampered by the troopers washed, brushed and cared for amazingly well. They even get a little kiss if they are really lucky! They even have vets there for them, so even a little upset they will be checked over. Horses are loved and cared for here.
In the capital of Morocco Rabat we do have the same thing as it is a kingdom too , I mean the horses standing in a certain spot but they made it from the sand to keep them safe 😊 and this is exactly in the entrance of Hassan tower .
When do they ever clean the horse poop???? Wouldn't want that job!!
I believe they need to clean the floor of the box area, after deposits are made.
The horses's have quickly learned how to get recognised on social media and see if they can pull a stunt or two.
