Thanks for not only sharing how to use molds, showing things that might go wrong, tips on what you do but you are giving me ideas too. I have this mold and was just too much of a chicken to try it, but you have given me a couple of ideas and now I won't be using up so much expensive resin on mistakes something that always happens.
Steve is a treasure, isn't he? I'm so happy I found his channel. I love seeing the things that don't work as well as the things that do. And he is so good at finding fixes.
nice video and I subscribed , nice editing also , LOL , only a suggestion , I use a set amount of water to start and then fill my molds with it then subtract left over from start , this gives me total volume I need for pour plus I make a small small amount more. dry off molds then start mixing resin
I brought this mould and have been staring at it hoping it would tell me what I needed to do-thank you so much really appreciate the tutorial. I’ve only recently started watching your channel and I find it really useful. Thank you so much 😀 Ax
I used mine it came out lovely. I put a battery candle in it . My brother is having triplets so I have now come up with makeing one and putting 3 bears in it with lights xx
Holy handbags batman!!! Yup I'm definitely impressed & definitely glad you tried your mold before I tried mine 🤣🤣🤣 I might have to give mine a whirl a later or tomorrow!!!
Wondering if glitter or a resin foil design at the very top of the dome would be a good option. Will get this mold and try it out. Thx for being our "guinea pig"..🌞😺
OMGOSH! A pipette! Something so simple n so easy then why didn’t I think of it?? Ugh. Thank so much. As soon as hubby gets back to normal hours I will buy you several coffees. It’s a bit hairy around here. Thanks pandemic! Debs from Texas
I wanted to let you know that you might have the base upside down. The images on Amazon show the base with beaded edge facing up. The dome probably wouldn’t slide around with it in that orientation 😊 But love the video, thanks for sharing 🙏
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts Not sure to. I found it on Amazon, under "Cloche Bell Jar Display Dome". It is the fourth pic in the description. Hope that helps.
So THAT'S how to do it. Mine is still sitting in the kitchen while I try to repair the HUGE bubble in the dome. I was able to push it out a bit when I got the mold off and dripped the still not cured resin over the top. By no means perfect but just ok. The base still hasn't set after 3 days BUT it's because of user error - too much liquid paint! Thank you!!! You have given me hope to try again.
I had this in my cart recently but was ambivalent about it. Also its not cheap in Oz. I also thought it was alot smaller. Admittedly I hadn't read the description. I'm now reconsidering. Thx again Steve 🦉🎨
Thank you for showing the white wedding dress. And that is a good mould, so nice and clear, and thick enough to magnify a little bit. That feature seems like Victorian Garden specimen collecting, maybe this is a mould to decorate with your gold powder on the little beaded edges. Especially liked the sound effects of the de-moulding. 🤣
Great video Steve. I bought one and followed your instructions. Success first time. Maybe you already found this, but I accidently found that the fill slots on the bottom cap actually pull completely out and thus a wide fill slot that could be filled with just a pour.
I have this exact mold. I always use a vacuum chamber so I never have any bubbles. I also use the brand of epoxy Art Resin. It's crystal clear and super easy to work with. Hope this pointer helps someone.
Wish you'd given us more of a close up of the dome/shined some light on it. Looks like quite a few small bubbles on the top of the dome/bottom of the casting. Were there similar small bubbles throughout the rest of the cast resin? Looked great though considering there was no vacuum chamber or other expensive equipment used. Bravo.
I've been eyeing this mold for a while. Now I have a great instructor & instructional video to help!! Thank you so much. Question... would setting the mold top in warm water for a few mins help release the bubbles in the top?
Steve. Loved the video, always comical and light hearted. Now for some serious business:- (Imagine the mission impossible theme). Your challenge if you decide to accept is - Would you be able to make a snow globe with that mould?. It's now in your hands to decide.
So happy I bought this mold last month! Was hoping to see someone have success with it! Wondering how much easier it would be with use of the pressure pot. You got amazing results, though!
After watching, the first minute: I HOPE he will measure the volume of the closed mold using water. That would be CLEVER😊 Later... no he didn't 😊. It became OK though 👍 Anyway... if you first measure the volume needed using water ... then you can pour an exact volume in an open mold, and then just close it 😊
Another mold I have and have yet to use lol. To be honest it's a bit scary ad there is zero directions on the Amazon page I bought it from. Definitely gettin cozy to watch this one. Thanks Steve 😊
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts so was I and that is prolly the biggest reason it's still in the package!! I'm so glad I'm subbed to you and you tried it. Thank you for all you do

@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts Ha received yesterday and made first cast. Is nice but... There easy to spot tool marks from master mold. Yeah you cut off those square bits. And this become reservoir for resin. I think they are too small, resin shrinks and I have cavities in cast. I use long cure resin, vacuum degas, pressure pot and really it's clear and no bubbles.
That is neat and I may get that mold for making my ocean environments. I have tried using glass jars from relish, garlic and baby food but I guess the resin created too much heat or something. Each time the glass cracked. Maybe this could work or maybe I should just make my own molds of the glass jars I still have. Or do both. :D - Heidi
Did you try it the original way, without cutting it first, to see how it would work? I also agree with another commenter- measure the volume with water in the dome first so you can put that much in, and then let all of it sit for 5 min, flaming the bubbles. I was surprised you didn't use your micro brushes to scoop out the base bubbles and just trusted to the ol 'squidgy widgy" method.
I'm new to resin & my molds smell like resin after I use them. I clean them with baby wipes, wash them in mild soapy water & even soaked them. How do you get the smell out?
I really need one like this but in Pyramid shape. (Hollow pyramids). I need only the exterior so I can fill it with many things.without worryng of bubles or dents outside, or makig layers. Please HELP.
I've got a question: when you make a mold for something like a trinket box how do you keep from filling the center space of the box... So that it's easy to demold? The only way I've been able to make a new mold for them is to just pour the box with a solid part in the bottom! HELP PLEASE

I have used the water mode but kinda reverse. I start with one cup of water, pour and see what was used; I like the rice way better
I keep near some little projects, so I dont waste any resin.

Wouldn't putting the resin-filled mould in the pressure pot eliminate the bubbles?
It's shrunk them... if you have bubbles in begin you will have bubbles in cast but smaller.
Yup…

i have been wanting to get one of these for a dice shaker but wa put off as was no instructions
Nice, how much resin did it take to make it Steve? My mum used to have domes to stop dust collecting
Do you think I could use the dome like a pyramid mould? Filling the epoxy dome with flowers etc and not the silicone mould?
