I have registered many songs with US copyright office and also have my own publishing company. I find your videos really interesting. One thing you don't seem to touch on is the idea that if you employ session musicians and pay them a fee for their services you as the employer can actually own copyright for the work they do for you.. When a corporation employs a graphic artist to make a logo the graphic artist doesn't own the copyright of the logo they were employed to do this work. I remember when Quincy Jones was furious with Michael Jackson he spoke about how Michael Jackson didn't give credit to others who helped write lyrics or other parts of his songs. However look at the Copyright office form details and it speaks about this aspect. Of course everything depends on the agreement you come up with the persons you employ to write lyrics or other parts to songs. Elvis never wrote songs but he got co songwriting royalties because his manager demanded it be part of the deal. Big name artists can do this because they create sales.
I’m just wondering if I could retroactively use a split sheet for all of the songs I have written with artists over the years. Not sure if I can do that with certain artists who’ve passed away? Also, with setting up a copyright with the government, since I happen to have wrote a fair amount of songs and the artists changed the original production and lyrics for a song I sent to them it seems odd that they can say they worked on a song for a while, yet actually didn’t do anything to what I originally sent them. Basically lying outright?
I see NFL players are letting people buy stocks in their career then they make money off that players career. Can something like this work for music artists or bands?

B5 from bad boys didn't write music or make beats they got 0% of the profits. Only thing they got money was from performing...so on split she they got nothing
extremely helpful. one question: If a producer / "sound designer" actively has inputs in the creation of the song, (think about something as simple as replacing a kick drum / snare or adding a unique guitar FX chain to whole/part of the song)... can or should they get artist credit? or... 2) if no to the above and they are only entitled to producer credit - where is that credit taken from? equally from 1 or more of the main artists?

Question - the master and sample part of your agreement only apply if the parties involved make a recording of the song at the time of creation, correct? And the "master" would be that specific recording of the song? For example, let's say you and I collaborated on a song and at the end of the writing session there was a lead sheet but not a recording. At some later date you took the lead sheet to some session players and recorded "our" song. Would I be entitled to anything from that master recording other than some mechanical or performance royalty? thanks.
Can you do an episode on led Zeppelin ( i love the band so much I would take a bullet for them),they got sued by the grandkids of the original composers for songs that Zeppelin stold (whole lotta love,etc). I am a music trivia fanatic going back the Beatles and led Zeppelin,and later bands like van Halen and Metallica,leading to trivia contest awards on radio stations ,and a walk on gig as an on air DJ on the heavy metal station KNAC 105.5 FM. I later became a collector of live and studio outtakes on bootleg releases,and would later become one of the biggest bootleg producers in late 1990s. I attended the Zeppelin trial in los Angeles for stairway to heaven plagiarism back a few years ago.I knew that the stairway case was weak brought an ambulance chasing attorney. Channel 2 news interviewed me the day before the trial ended ,I told them Zep would prevail because the plaintiff
