I use 30 06 for Deer and Elk here in Wyoming. 165gr core lokt is great for both. I tried some 180 gr but they didn't group as well through my Ruger M77. So I just use 165 gr. Plenty of energy on Elk.
.308 Win with a 16’ is just a nice sweet spot ballistically. Still somewhat compact, and 150 grain @ 2600 ft/s is not too bad. Plus if you zero the thing at 50 you pretty much can point and shoot out to 230 yards. And down at 230 it still has more ft-lb than a 5.56 at the muzzle. I like my 308 Win 16’ 😁
I like my 308s but have to be real, with the army adopting the 6.8mm swapping out the LMGs from 308 its gonna hurt the popularity of this round. 556 and 308 are popular in the civilian world because of the military...
It’s something I thought about as well. Seems the military hasn’t switched yet… but Winchester has introduced the 6.8 western, then peculiarly stopped promotion, now offerings for 270 win with faster twists, 270wsm is still out there, 277 fury is supposed to supplant the 308? I like the 30 cals, 300 win mag can be hand loaded to match the 300prc, but I really like the 6.8 western with ballistics at range neck and neck with 300 win mag with 8 ft lbs less recoil… my M1A is a reliable rifle, 22” barrel offers decent velocities… can 22 sabots cycle in a piston semi auto? That would be neat
Saying 308 is dead is like saying 9mm or 5.56 is dead. Nothing that’s currently a NATO caliber will ever be “dead” in our lifetime. 308 is live and we’ll just like 5.56
I have never really understood why 308 would be called dead. Read two articles to that point here recently. I think its great, but took me a while to get here!
I have ~more than one~ item chambered in 308. I am interested in seeing the pencil barrel performance, with a 10-shot string. Wondering if the group size starts to open up with barrel temperatures.
Ohh yes. I am planning on 3 bolt builds. Had hoped to already have one in the works. 8.6 blackout 308 Too 2 on the list. Maybe a 6gt or 6 something prs style
Why Choose a DEAD Cartridge in 2023 .308 win You must be joking. The .308 Winchester and the 7.62x51mm is a NATO round and far from being a dead cartridge. The .308 is not going anywhere.
I am not joking. I mentioned in the video I am building one and I am a new adopter. Build one last month for a friend and now wanting my own. I don’t know who started the 308 is dead thing. Wasn’t me.
@EagleRun23 ur prolly right, lotsa people enjoy ragging on things have worked for nearly ever in support of "the new hotness". Never been much of a hotness follower, just get what I want that fits my needs or what I like regardless of others opinions. Been a good and bad thing.

.308 is a GREAT Round partner.
I am late but I am into it!!
If I were getting a new rifle , you can bet your bippy it would be a .308

mr iceaxe! how are ya! We just grabbed what they had, ill reload and see, hopefully the heavier the better i guess?
Definitely need to do a 308 build! My dads sig cross is a tac driver
I started reloading 300bo and then had the projectiles so I started 308. Wish light weight AR10 parts were less expensive

“Real normal things happening here” literally ear to ear grin when you said that 🎉
hahaha!

I think the biggest benefit for the 16" is reducing length when using a can.
308 is a great round!
Nice stuff!😎👍
I like my 308 ar10 it shoots amazing only issue is it’s a heavy sob with that 20” tube on it. That 16” you have there sure is nice 👍🏻
Mine was too. I switched to the faxon 18" and took 2 lbs off. Nice to put your gun on a diet when you get older 😉
Not a "dead" cartridge but like the 5.56 it's a common, tried and true cartridge therefore "boring"
True. Also I don’t think it’s dead as I am making one and made one for a buddy last week.

My LR-308 is based around a Faxon Big Gunner and LMT BCG. Thing runs like a freaking top. 30Hate is so badass man!

We will see. I’ll be doing lots of cold bore stuff since it’s primary use is hunting.
Nice 6.5 grendel barrel.
308 isn't dead. It's the standard.
I think 308 isn’t going anywhere. Also they are prolific everyone has one. These calibers that truly die, no one has the guns.
Hell I’m still shooting 357 Sig and 308 neither will ever truly die IMO
Well here I am making 2. Just finished my buddy from church and now making mine! :)
It's probably gonna like that gold medal match, if you know what that is.
Love 308 ARs
I wasnt born with a 308, but got one as soon as I could! haha
I still need some 308 in my life. I'm thinkin it might be a boltgun though. Thoughts?
Ohh yes. I am planning on 3 bolt builds. Had hoped to already have one in the works.
8.6 blackout

308 is far from dead. More popular today then ever
right! I am building 2 currently! haha
We kill moose in Alaska with a 308 win !
165 to 180gr bullets makes a great hunting rifle !
ill probably always choose to hunt sub sonic, but glad to have a 308 battle rifle. this gun is done if you look at my recent videos.
Careful, them there are toein the line of fightin words. Thats almost as bad as insulting "ma 2 world wars" or "gods caliber". Hahaha
If you search 308 mostly people are trying to take a shot at the champ. So 308 gets picked on. I am new to 308. Happy to be here.
