It was the earliest bus on a bank holiday Monday which may have reduced numbers. One person got on at Langholm and another at Canonbie. Most people go by car particularly if the do so for work every day. The train journey would be much more attractive than the bus for work and leisure users, but it would need to attract a lot more users than the bus. The Borders railway has many more users than the bus did, could this be replicated south of Hawick and would it be enough even with some through traffic. That's the question the forth coming feasibility study needs to answer we await it findings.
Will be possible again WHEN the entire line is open again from Carlisle to Edinburgh.
I might be able to go all the way to London then. thought HS2 will be open by then. So the North British Midland route will still be the slow line.

My thoughts exactly. Moreover,this would have been an valuable diversion route for the WCML & it would have done well out of the forestry traffic
