I've got my first one, a -2 to paint. I liked the kit so much I ordeed a second dual combo. The cockpit is really nicely done. However I would recommend assembling the cockpit at the same time as joining the fuselage halves to get the alignment correct. About ten minutes of sanding get the fabric surfaces looking pretty good. My major gripe is with the engine pushrods and ignition ring. For Fs sake why they had to put the sprue gates BETWEEN pushrods and ignition outlets is beyond me. For the pushrods I ended up cutting off the pushrods at the sprue gate locationd and gluing them in place after. The ignition ring too some carefull trimming but is doable. I added some iignition wires and when complete this has to be the best injection molded engine I've seen. As for the folded wings, ony one of the kit options is carrier based so that's the only one the folded wing option would be accurate for. If you want to build two with the wings spread you can cut down the folded wing spar and use it with the spread wing parts and the folded wing parts built around the spread wing spar. Tom Cleaver shows this option in his build review over at Modeling Madness. Is this a beginners kt? I think not. However for someone trying to develop "some modeling skill required" is a great kit. Overall the fit is stellar, I used a spot of putty at the lower wing join and that's it.
Anxious to see a build video for this. I agree with you that a purist is going to be disappointed. To me, the rivets look rather deep as well. Peace and love.
This, along with Miniart's P-47 line, were two of my more anticipated kits of this year/last year. Excited to eventually build this and to see what you do with it!
Many thanks Sir for your observations on this kit - I can see Santa bringing me one this Christmas! In respect to your observations on details (riveting), several Manufacturers actually were contracted to build the different versions of Corsair. I would contest your observations unless you could prove all Manufacturers (If memory serves me correctly there were three) constructed the respective airframes exactly alike. The exact history of the Corsair is varied and gets somewhat complicated. The Corsair wasn't a success as the carrier based defensive aircraft it was designed to be, so much so it ended up with the Marines predominately land based Operations. This aircraft was subjected to many airframe modifications during and following WW2, some more obvious than others. Personally, I wasn't going to buy this kit until I saw a build of it, and your you tube review. I intend to build and enjoy the product, which I am sure was the goal of Magic Factory in the first place!
I'm no corsair expert and am merely repeating observations others have pointed out who have more experience with the Corsair than I do. That said, I believe the kit will build up to a very satisfying replica of the Corsair and I believe that you will enjoy the kit and end result! I think you will have a good Christmas this year!
Hello mr. Hammer!thats a nice little gem you have in your hand.i build a revell corsair in 1996in my childhood at the age of 12.ohh i remember those happy days.with best regards and sticky greetings from Brandenburg/germany.your fellow modellmate.christian
Looking forward to seeing what you do with these 2. Great review as always. Heard about the fabric rendering being way overdone but didn’t know about the riveting issue. Thanks for pointing that out. I must say though that included masks are a huge disappointment 😂
I’ve started this one and decided to begin with the folded wing section and the undercarriage bays. The position of the undercarriage bay walls seem imprecise. I’ve got the walls for the left hand bay fitted as best I can but now the roof of the bay does not fit. I’m really going to have to think hard about how to do this for the right hand bay. Also I’m doing the -2 which has the window in the cockpit floor. The mask T for this seems completely undersize.
After getting frustrated with both the hobby boss and tamiya corsairs to have a model with extended wings without having all alignment issues and gaps is worth the price of admission for me.
Greetings and a Happy 2024 to you I was looking at the sprues thinking how lovely the moulding was and how detailed they were - and then you said that they weren't actually correct. I have to ask, what sort of an idiot would go to so much effort to create such lovely mouldings with the wrong beautiful details on it? Time to go a bit Homer Simpson and say - D'oh!!! What are your plans for this one? Out of the box, gentle Hammerheading or the full H.h. treatment. Either way, looking forward to your build, it should look really nice (a bit technically wrong but really nice.) Your's in anticipation, I.P.
lol, yeah, it does lead one to scratch their head. I think I'm planning to do one out of the box, just to see how it does, but for the second one, I'm planning on getting the detailed engine set that they are doing that comes with ground crew so I can do a diorama.
@@HammerheadModelMaking Ooh, yes please. What news on the Dakota, or AC Dakota I should say ? Still thinking about it? I love Spooky (or Puff) depending on your preference. Regards....
The two by four rib tapes are what is putting me offf here. I don't get why it seems to be impossible to depict a tout fabric covering in styrene. Either they show saggy canvas, overdone stitching, or completely overdone rib tapes. (Eduard have their act together on the BF 109 K, though, even down to the pinking.) I like the engineering of the wing spars. Rivets: meh. They are overdone anyway. But it's what the customer seems to expect these days.
Yeah, I didn't really go too in depth on the fabric covered bits, they do seem a little on the extreme side. Not a deal breaker for me, I think they could be sanded down a bit to make them not so pronounced, but I get why it'd turn some folks off.
Yeah, I'm not sure its so much that, just different people want different things out of the hobby, for some absolute accuracy is important, I'm not that so much, but I get that some are.

Fantastic! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the kit so far! I'm really anxious to start working on mine!
Looks awesome! Corsair is my favorite plane! I remember watching Baa Baa Blacksheep with my dad as a kid. Can't wait to watch the build video!
Nice! I used to watch reruns of that when I was at college.
Those clear parts looked very impressive.
I know right!
Anxious to see a build video for this. I agree with you that a purist is going to be disappointed. To me, the rivets look rather deep as well. Peace and love.

Thanks Kevin! Well, when I test out the masks and they disappoint me I'll know where to turn to to get better ones!

Yeah, I totally get that, I think this one will build up with little frustration, especially like you said, for the wings!
Cool model.
I agree!
Why did they put the sprue gates right on the panel line on the cowl.
I just double checked and it looks like the sprue gates sit right above the panel line, so the panel line is uninterrupted.
Greetings and a Happy 2024 to you
