Hi Andy, just wanted to say thanks. I’m an Australian serviceman serving in Malaysia stuck in hospital waiting for an op on my spine. Your latest video brightens my day and allows me to dream of better times when my wife and I can purchase our dream bike for touring the land of oz. GS or RT is my challenge at the moment but given I’m 6ft 4’’ I’m leaning towards the GS. Please keep up the good work your videos are helping with my recovery. In military terms BZ. Jack and pip.
Get the GS Adventure, mate. I’ve got an RT (latest version). I’m 6ft, and have the pegs lowered and my seat on the highest setting. It’s alleviated the pain I had in my knees, but there’s an unexpected consequence of the Wünderlich peg lowering kit. Last week, I tipped into a largish roundabout, leaned forward and opened the throttle. I got the shock of my life. I heard a scraping noise and pulled the brakes and stood the bike up. I thought it was the cylinder head (or the protector). It was the sensor (nipple) on the peg. I was only at 37 degrees, according to the BMW app! Andy is right about the knee angle. It’s not as relaxed as the GS/GS Adventure. I also suspect (only suspect) the GSA has a higher stand over height, not just because of the elevated suspension travel. The tank is wider. On the RT it’s quite wide and I think it’s wider than the standard GS. Having put 7.5k miles in all weathers in 5.5 months I can say the weather protection is amazing. The gadgets are superb. The 10.25 screen is far better than the pokey little one on the GS, which is a consideration if you need reading glasses! The electronic goodies are amazing, especially the ACC (radar cruise). I ride mostly in eco mode, I never use rain and hardly use road. Dynamic and eco are the only two you really need, and they are night and day. There’s also one benefit of the RT over the GS/GSA: the lower fairings stop your legs from being barbecued by the cylinder heads on a hot day! Another great thing about the RT is the panniers are standard, whereas on the GS/GSA they’re an extra (though RT is several thousand pounds more than the GSA.) Now, having said all that, my next bike will be the new GSA! Why? Because the roads in the UK are a total disgrace and like many countries there’s money to waste helping other people, but not British people. The government is playing with the lives of British road users especially motorcyclists. With 8.66in of rear travel and 8.25in at the front compared to only 5in rear travel on the RT, the GSA could fall down the Grand Canyon and ride out…ok an exaggeration! I also think, as my sports exploited body starts to pay the price, the more relaxed keg angle will be better. As they’re adding all the bells and whistles on the new GS, I’m sure it’s the one to buy.
All the best for a full recovery and better biking days ahead. I think I will eventually end up with a GS at some point too, with a factory lowered chassis due to my disproportionately short legs. All the best to you 👍
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks Andy. Follow up I have come out of hospital after 2 surgeries. after a few weeks of rehab am fighting fit and ready to ride. PS I bought a 1953 A10 BSA on a whim …… told my wife it was all the drugs. Now it’s back to searching for the ultimate tourer. GSA is looking good. Take care. Jack
Spent my honeymoon in Tuscany 29 years ago, visited many of the same places. Now we are thinking of revisiting because you have awaken those memories. Great to see such a lovely ride through Italy.
While you were riding in Tuscany , me and ten friends from the Detroit and Toronto area were riding in Ireland on hired BMW's from Celtic Riders. We followed the shores of Ireland in a clockwise fashion on the Wild Atlantic Way and had a great time. Over the 14 day period we had less rain than you did on day 1 of your 2023 Tuscany tour which did (pleasantly) surprise us. Great scenery, friendly people, lots of sheep and some fabulous chowders. Highly recommended tour and touring outfit.
What a cracking two episode adventure around Tuscany. My wife and I have seen a lot of Italy over 37 years together and we married in San Gimignano, so you brought back many fond memories there. (My late father spend 8 years in Rome during and after the conclusion of WW2. So Italy is very special to us ❤️ 🇮🇹 ). I’ve made a note of the tour operator and it’s on the list!!! Thanks Andy and I’m really enjoying your channel. 👍
Good to see you back on another tour. We are great fans of Tuscany and one of our favourite lunch stops is Lucca. You were commenting about the marble stairs in the villa, when you get up in the Tuscan mountains you will find the marble mines and villages where the churches are totally made of marble and in one village even the kerbstones where made of marble. Looking forward to the next episode.
HI Andy and Carol thanks for another great tour series what a treat for a Saturday morning, I agree with you about the slog we sometimes have to do on tour we are touring the same area and as it takes days to get there you’re often knackered by the time you get to the main bit so it makes sense to fly in and out and enjoy the riding, See you at the ABR in 5 days time 😊
Thanks for taking us along again, Andy. 😀 I do appreciate you taking a moment to check out what everyone is riding, even if you don't remember riding that Moto Guzzi model, heh. Hope Carol enjoys the rage and she shop she found again. 😉
Very nice TMF, looks like a great trip. Also a "novel" but seemingly obvious solution in having a fixed base, & one as lovely as that too! Looking forward to the next episode.
Another splendid series to look forward to thanks Andy. I completely agree regarding the massive TFT, it looks like an afterthought the way its sort of plonked on there. Roll. On the next episode!
Fabulous vid. I lived near Siena for several years . You visited many places that bring back great memories. May and June, due to the climate, relative absence of mosquitos and the wild flowers, are the best months to visit. Don't worry about your pronunciation of the places you visited, at least you made an effort! I genuinely can't think of a better holiday. I look forward to more episodes.
Another really nice video Andy :) Did similar trip in Tuscany last summer on my RT. A good tip is to use a cable lock for helmets and carry walking shoes, can then lock boots and jackets in panniers while visiting towns. Looks forward to next in series.
Thanks for another tour. Beautiful scenery and places to visit as well as unique villa to stay at. Also appreciated you showing us the various bikes that Adrian used on the tour.
Looks a top spot you're staying. Nice to see he has some Italian bikes to choose from. To be honest touring from a base in a great area is our preferred option. There's often too much pressure to make distance when moving on every day.
Totally agree - this was a very civilised tour indeed....perfect for pillions too because if they don't want too, they don't have to ride everyday of course....
That looks like a really smashing set up! Bravo! lovely to see that Italian countryside and those towns too. Having a day off makes a lot of sense too. (Mrs F “ because it’s got a top box.. “yeah right, nothing to do with the good looking sexy Italian in front 🤣)
Was stoked to see you taking similar courses in the same month I managed to tour Tuskany with my RT. Now that I see the weather on your trip I am very pleased I finished my Tuscany tour when the torrential rains began mid May. On a weeks journey in the beginning of May I was fortunate to enjoy five days of 24-27° C mostly sunny. The scenery was so lovely with road banquets in bloom and I also miss the exquisite food already too. Could bring my new traveling bike, a 22 1250 RT, to good use. It managed stomping up and down some passes in a forced manner and relaxed whenever I chose to simply enjoy the gorgeous scenery of nature there without any hesitation. Cannot wait to get back! Looking forward to the next episode. Safe travels!
Great to see you on tour TMF and what a great tour. In a month I’m going to do your route to Luxembourg with knobs on. Thanks for giving these tours and ideas 😀
I was lucky enough to have 10 days in Tuscany last year, absolutely stunning part of the world. We stayed in a little town called Castiglion Fiorentino, despite the small size it had some really special restaurants and cafés. I couldn't stop thinking how great it would be to have my bike there, and this only confirms my suspicions! Going to have a long list of towns to visit after this tour series...
Heck of a job to have for Adrian - motorcycle tour guide in Tuscany. I'm sure there are things about that job too that are nightmarish, but getting to ride around Tuscany on a daily basis just seeing the sights, no pressure, and making a living off... I guess Adrian wins! 😂 Sounds like the planning is good also - as you say, not an endurance test. If you go somewhere to be a tourist and ride, the riding is important but hammering out 8 hour rides isn't really the goal, the goal is to see the sights and have a vacation surely.
Agreed - and Adrian makes it look easy, that's the trick, believe me running a motorcycle tour business is not as straightforward or stress free as it may seem!
Extraordinary, Andy! I can vouch for the odd weather in Italy in May. My wife and I were in Puglia, Calabria and Sicily most of the month and we only had a handful of sunny days. Cheers for taking us along! 🏍👍🏍
Great to see you back 'in the saddle' so to speak. I have done more miles on my bike in the last 6 weeks than I do in most years......good for the soul...
Oh my. I recognized it immediately. I stayed there - at Fattoria Poggio Alloro - in 2012. Drank wine outside and had a group feast at that long community table. Would love to ride there on my new 1250 RT.
Missed this episode last week 😔 The RT is a great bike, I owned one. The weight of the bike became an issue for my shoulders when moving it around without engine power and cornering at low speeds, so I bought a lighter one. I rode the RT in heavy rain and it kept me dry while riding. I could just reach the ground on my RT, on a GS I couldn’t. Same with the V-Strom. On my Honda CBF100, I can easily reach the ground.
Just got onto this vid at last. I’ve done a similar tour at a similar villa just outside Lucca in 2015. Not super exotic but one of the best we’ve done. I can imagine how you felt! It’s a sublime place. Was fairly expensive though, we could have done Canada or Oz for the same money!!
WOW, three fantastic looking towns well worth a visit, with great looking roads between. If Adrian says it only gets better, what are we in for. Was going to google bike rentals in the area, but I now know who I'll be incontact with, as this area could be my next trip.
Yes I think Episode two is a belter - and yes, Adrian does bike hire too if you don't want a tour tuscanymotorcyclerentals.com/en/ tell him i sent you!
Well Mr&Mrs Flyer, you done it again, just superb! Funny all the place names sound like wine or cheese, very agreeable 🤣😀 Looking forward to the rest of this stunning trip! 👍👏😀🍾 Thank you.
Strange start to summer in Colorado as well...rain every day...thought we would get a break today up in the mountains but it wasn't to be...fun nonetheless
What a cracking tour that would be, another one for the bucket list. Too bad they didn't have any V100 Mandello's to ride; I ordered one of those six weeks ago and can't wait for it to arrive!
Looking forward to seeing the next videos! Loved watching the Alaska series and am a bit jealous of the trips you have taken. You are right about the RT as I have a 2023 Triple Black myself that I usually ride with no panniers on mountain roads. The seating position on the GS is definitely more comfortable, while the RT with the 17" front tire and sporty rake and trail numbers handles like a sport bike. The RT is incredibly balanced and handles like a dream at low speeds and has fantastic wind and rain protection. Cheers!
One day if I were to play and win the lottery I might be able to afford a holiday like this. In the mean time I shall have to continue using my tent staying at small quiet campsites.
That place is so beautiful! Kinda cool how you have a couple from my state of NC ! I haven't seen one of the new RT's up close. On an interesting note my employer has an Italian machine being installed and we have a number of Italians on site.
Yes this one has done well - I put that down to me putting a picture of an RT on the thumbnail and including it in the title - I'm thrilled it's done well!! Episode two I think is better, but will likely get fewer views....we shall see!!
Great video, Andy! I almost got the RT. Of course I thought about the GS too, but I’ve wanted a GSA for so long that I thought if I didn’t get it, I’d regret it. I did buy a low seat for it. Got it for a deal as it was a demo seat for those thinking on buying the regular height or low chassis bike and someone put a pinhole in it. Going to have it reupholstered today.
Another great video, looking forward to the rest of the tour, due to your channel and Teapot One, I've finally bitten the bullet and bought an R1250 GS rally 21 plate. hopefully, pick it up on Friday.
Thanks Andy, I like the format, biking, chatting, local history, food….personally I’m not keen on the 360 degree camera shots. Probably one of your best travelogues, looking forward to the rest…..from Cambridge UK🇬🇧
So jealous. Love Tuscany and a bike tour is on my bucket list. I own a Guzzi and can’t figure out why Italians prefer BMWs. Those roads are tailored for the Guzzi lineup. Thanks for posting
Great looking tour Andy. looking forward to the next instalment. Nice to see the Italian selection of bikes. Amazingly part of the world to be on a bike with the food, wine, culture ect.. roads aren’t bad either 👍
Great trip, doing a similar trip solo in the Belgian Ardennes at the end of the month. Staying in an AirBnB near La Roche and having day trips in all directions.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yes, been through the Ardennes on the way to Germany and Luxembourg. Decided I needed to explore a little more, I can have day trips to a lot of the places you visited. I’ll be there in two weeks😎
Thanks Andy. You certainly know how to pick your motorcycle tours! What a lovely area and lots of good "grub" by the looks. I look forward to following the rest of your journey. Stay safe and have a great time. :>)
Cracking camera work as always and first class content . Being a GS rider / owner absolutely amazes me how BMW can market the RT as a full on touring bike in their range and not provide the top box as standard . I get the reasons around not giving you boxes on the GS as it’s marketed as an adventure bike albeit majority stay on tarmac . I find the top box is an absolute must for two up touring giving your passenger a bit more added safety /security so I get it that Mrs Flyer doesn’t,t like riding pillion without one , so shame on you BMW for not including one . Think the tour company should have had one fitted . Looking forward to the next installment 😊
That loox like a much more comfortable tour with stops using a base to explore from. Rather than having to knock out several hundred miles a day. One thing though, I'd like to see the names of the towns and villages stopped at come up on the screen. Or the route you ride at the end of the video.

I agree about the tft. It made me buy the 2018 instead. Something about seeing needles fly around dials which I’d miss
Glad we concur!
Abseloutely fantastic vlog
Glad you enjoyed it
What a cracking tour that would be, another one for the bucket list. Too bad they didn't have any V100 Mandello's to ride; I ordered one of those six weeks ago and can't wait for it to arrive!
Congratulations!
Cheers!
Cheers - and so glad you like the tours!
One day if I were to play and win the lottery I might be able to afford a holiday like this. In the mean time I shall have to continue using my tent staying at small quiet campsites.
Great first episode Andy amazing how big modern bikes handle sweeping bends, looks like an amazing place to visit.
Yes lovely bike this one - enjoyed riding it...
That place is so beautiful! Kinda cool how you have a couple from my state of NC ! I haven't seen one of the new RT's up close. On an interesting note my employer has an Italian machine being installed and we have a number of Italians on site.
Having had three GS’ and now on an RT, I find that the “tucked up” riding position of the RT to be more comfortable on the longer rides.
I agree Ian. I’ve had two GSs and definitely prefer the RT riding position. For me it’s the perfect machine.
That's interesting - I did enjoy my time on the RT I must say,....
Another tour! Why wasn’t I informed? Let’s go 👍🏻
TMF ,I know you say you don't get the viewers on the tour videos , but I love them! 39k is pretty good for episode 1.
Yes this one has done well - I put that down to me putting a picture of an RT on the thumbnail and including it in the title - I'm thrilled it's done well!! Episode two I think is better, but will likely get fewer views....we shall see!!
Tuscany, beemers, accommodation, food and grape juice….Why am I thinking Alan B’Stard? 🤣🤣
Nice one!
Great video. Looking forward to the next episode.
Thank you Chris - next episode is due on Wednesday morning....
awesome vids as usual Andy keep em coming love em all 👍
Thanks, will do!
After watching so many of your videos, today i rode a scooter for the first time 🤣 it was a Vespa, we got to start somewhere
That is awesome!
Great vid. Beautiful part of the world, very welcoming nation.
Yes I love Italy - one of the best countries on the planet....
@@TheMissendenFlyerif you're still there, get the time and haven't done so, visit Cinque Terre, beautiful.
Another great video, looking forward to the rest of the tour, due to your channel and Teapot One, I've finally bitten the bullet and bought an R1250 GS rally 21 plate. hopefully, pick it up on Friday.
Congratulations!
Thanks Andy, I like the format, biking, chatting, local history, food….personally I’m not keen on the 360 degree camera shots. Probably one of your best travelogues, looking forward to the rest…..from Cambridge UK🇬🇧
Thanks very much for the feedback Neil - aapreciate that!
I loved my 1150RT for so many years.
Wish you'd check out the US sometime, some great roads and sights to see.
Have you seen my epic tour to Alaska and the Pacific Northwest from last year?? ua-cam.com/play/PL_719tkJvufYtRzFf1eiAksed_IKi3OL2.html
So jealous. Love Tuscany and a bike tour is on my bucket list. I own a Guzzi and can’t figure out why Italians prefer BMWs. Those roads are tailored for the Guzzi lineup. Thanks for posting
My pleasure!
What a hard life eh 😂. Stuning is all i can say. Looking forward to watching the rest of the trip....thank you as usual. 👍
Thank you for watching once again!
Great looking tour Andy. looking forward to the next instalment. Nice to see the Italian selection of bikes. Amazingly part of the world to be on a bike with the food, wine, culture ect.. roads aren’t bad either 👍
Glad you enjoyed it - next episode coming on Wednesday!
Great trip, doing a similar trip solo in the Belgian Ardennes at the end of the month. Staying in an AirBnB near La Roche and having day trips in all directions.
Lovely - we enjoyed touring in the Ardennes last year on the GoldWIng - did you see our "5 countries in 5 days" trip?
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yes, been through the Ardennes on the way to Germany and Luxembourg. Decided I needed to explore a little more, I can have day trips to a lot of the places you visited. I’ll be there in two weeks😎
What a ghastly idea staying in a villa in Tuscany and riding round the country side. I’m not jealous really!!
;0)
Great journey 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Sure was!
@@TheMissendenFlyer 🥰👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Looks incredible there! 😁
It is!
Thanks Andy. You certainly know how to pick your motorcycle tours! What a lovely area and lots of good "grub" by the looks. I look forward to following the rest of your journey. Stay safe and have a great time. :>)
Many thanks!
Cheers Darren - next episode coming on Wednesday!
wat a viller mate love it
That loox like a much more comfortable tour with stops using a base to explore from. Rather than having to knock out several hundred miles a day. One thing though, I'd like to see the names of the towns and villages stopped at come up on the screen. Or the route you ride at the end of the video.
Yes not a bad idea that - thanks for the idea!
Just got back from a short trip to Calabria on my RT. This video brought the itch back. And the itch needs to be scratched 😂
Get scratching!
My dream tour!!! One day....
