This game is way deeper than many think. Each boxer has a fav punch in which if you set it up, you can end fights quickly. Hoylfield is upper cuts to the body.
The game has so many mechanics that make it so you can find a fighter you really like, and everyone is unique to themselves, I really like playing as Ray Leonard, His stance feels very loose and its like every punch he throws comes in at a different angle compared to other fighters. The way punches land in this game is kinda like playing UFC 4, i can feel myself landing the blows. Kinda sad this game came out at a time that there werent boxers that are more modern, like Canelo and Mayweather and etc.. fight night round 2, 3 and 4 dont fit the same feeling as the first.

not sure if you are aware of these mechanics because not everyone seems to know: if you let go of the guard button before throwing, it takes slightly longer to get your guard back up compared to keeping the guard button pressed while throwing. I never read anywhere about it but sometimes that's what wins me fights. If someone is trapped on the ropes/ in the corner, they can't lean and roll the same. Straights can land when they lean back. A good way to learn opponent's movement patterns is to not move at the very start of the first few rounds, just move yourself around and defend once they get close. Flick the left stick and then punch while stepping and your hooks are extremely fast. With good timing you can beat a straight if you manage distance correctly. Just don't step too much because stepping saps stamina. edit - I used to play Fight Night Round 3. One more thing: the style your boxer has can show you how close your opponent is when you aren't guarding up. Don't move and they will still have a little head movement animation going on. Your posture changes when they are in punching range, your hands/arms raise up slightly. It might be hard to notice and different depending on what the style is but it's there.

When they have low stamina from swinging, they do in fact take increased damage. Realistically, one flurry against a completely gassed opponent will almost always get a KO.
if you want to win as tyson-you dont use block at all. you just push your opponent to ropes every second, and once he is cornered you throw combos with 6-9 punches, each 3rd is power punch, no chance of surviving this unless opponent has cheats for stamina/health
