- The ultimate candle wax debate. Soy wax vs paraffin wax. Let's talk about the myths and reveal what is fact or fiction. Full transparency... I use several wax types, so this video is not about my opinions on each wax, but more so just responding to popular rumors and myths. Sort of a "myth busters" for wax. :)

Every single candle supply company should hire you to teach this to their customers! And medium to large candle making companies should hire you to white label a video for them talking about why their wax of choice is safe and their products that their customers can buy is a good purchase, unless they live in a closet and burn dozens at a time.
You could have a career in video! But I'm sure you'd miss the process.
If I win the lottery (I don't play) I'd give you all the money you need to transform the industry!
Ha! Well thanks man! I really appreciate the awesome comment and feedback. I do enjoy it and love to reach and speak. I know there will be people who agree and those who disagree. Just doing my best. So, I really appreciate the comments. And trust me.. Id absolutely love to do some videos and speeches for companies out there if they wanted me to. :)
Thanks again Christopher!
You are GREAT!! Can you please share what is the best starter kit to purchase for a beginner?
@@msthang9310 Thank you! ;) Honestly... I am not sure as I haven't used one myself. I plan to go through some though and make a video about my findings and recommendations when I can. For now, I would probably search on popular candle supplier sites and look at the reviews. Sorry I not super helpful with this question at the moment.
@@BlackTieBarn ok thank you! I will continue to research
I agree!!!
Hahaha....as a chemist, you did the "scent/molecule release" explanation, beautifully! Esp with the hand motions ❤
Excellent info! I currently switched from 464 to 6006 and felt guilty about not having a 100% soy candles. This video makes me feel a whole lot better about my decision. Thanks 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Did this help? I'm online now looking for a good wax and leaning towards 6006.
Did you like 6006?
So glad you're tackling this! I really like your point about the viscous cycle of misinformation out there. It's so prevalent that many new candle makers just innocently assume it to be true. The more we can arm candle makers with the unbiased view of wax/fragrance/etc through modern education like your channel the better. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that feedback. And completely agree! :)
Just stumbled on your channel. As a fellow candle business owner who has been in business over a year, and i have to say this is 100% NEEDED TO BE HEARD BY EACH AND EVERY CONSUMER THAT IS GULLIBLE ENOUGH TO NOT REALIZE THIS IS A BUSINESS, AND THAT EACH COMPANY IS GOING TO CREATE MYTHS AND STATE THINGS THAT MAY NOT BE TRUE TO SELL MORE CANDLES.
Thanks Josh. Couldn't agree more!
HI I'M GOING TO SPEAK IN CAPS LOCK BECAUSE I NEED PEOPLE TO KNOW I'M NOT MESSSING AROUND TODAY, I'M REALLY SERIOUS IN FACT. I'M SICK OF ALL THESE DOG GONE CANDLE BUSINESES SELLING SNAKE WAX IN A JAR WITH A DIRTY UNORGANIC COTTON WICK. DON'T YOU KNOW COTTON USED TO BE PICKED BY SLAVES TOO IT'S A RACIST TYPE OF WICK. Let me introduce you to our new organic wooden wicks which are biodegradable and sequester carbon and reduce your carbon footprint and even have their own natural cedarwood scent and crackle a bit.
Your transparency is so very much appreciated. You have committed a tremendous amount of time to become a master of all things candles. The details you are able to share because of your hands on testing & your constant push to refine your own line of products. This is evident in all areas of your work. Thank you for all of the info you share! I don’t know if I would have taken this leap of faith if it weren’t for the advice & encouragement you provide. Thanks again! You’re awesome!
This is the most informative video I've ever watched about the candle industry. You should be very proud of this. I've always stated that paraffin wax always gets the shaft, lol! Going to share this because of the honesty in research. I even learned a few things I didn't know.
Aww, thanks Jill for the kind words. Feel free to share and glad you got something knew out of it. We are always learning. :)
Cheers for this, I been tryin to find out about "1 oz silicone beeswax molds" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Peyaniel Psychological Predominance - (do a search on google ) ? It is a smashing one of a kind product for discovering the trick to be a candle maker for profit without the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my buddy got cool results with it.
Thank you for keeping it 100 with us! I’ve been saying some of these things for awhile now
You are so welcome
OMG Wade, thank you so much for addressing this very important topic. I so needed to see this today. I have been deliberating over the soy v paraffin wax debate for some time now and delighted to come across your very insightful and well explained video. I agree with Christopher Welty, every candle company should hire you to teach your invaluable information to their customers. You are a credit to the candle making community.
Awe, thanks Jana! Glad to help! :)
I am anxious to see your website come back to life. I'm so interested to see what your products look like!
Thanks Katey! In working on it. This move is taking much longer than expected. It will be a bit before I get set back up enough to start making again. Stay tuned! :)
I am a newbie just now started a few weeks ago and so far this has been the most helpful tip I’ve received! Thank you so much
You're welcome! :)
This is so fantastic and I love how you broke down all the info! Thank you so much for these videos!
You're welcome!
Waow am from nigeria.
I am glad I came across your channel, starting my own candle business....this is so educative
Welcome! Thanks for tuning in!
So glad I found your channel! Thanks so much for this valuable information. This has me really questioning why I felt the requirement to make only soy or coco soy candles! The coco waxes are expensive and have become almost impossible to reliably source these last few months. Thanks again...heading to binge watch all your other videos!
Awesome! Happy you are here! :)
Thank you! We were just discussing this recently. This is so helpful!
Great!
Came across your Chanel as I do research and your channel is my go to!! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us! Blessings to you!

been seeing tons of debates lately on FB groups, and I share this video every single time
😆 thanks. The way I see it.... everyone can make their own judgements. But at least know the facts. :)
WOW, what a great video and so detailed!!! Certainly opened my eyes to the differences (and similarities) of the two waxes. Thank you so much for taking the time to educate people. I just subscribed and look forward to your other videos!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thanks for the advice!

Hello, my name is Austin . I am the sales manager of the company's international department. We are a paraffin wax production company that cooperates with CNPC(China National Petroleum Corporation)which is the largest company in China. Due to our direct cooperation with CNPC ,we have unique advantages in terms of quality and price. Our products are exported to Australia, the United States, Mexico and Vietnam all the year round. The paraffin wax produced is extremely stable and will not change color after long-term storage. It would be our utmost honor to establish a business relationship with your esteemed company. Looking forward to hearing from you.

You're welcome Julie. Thanks for watching. :)
I've learned sooooo much from this video!! Thank you!!❤
Awesome. Thanks Kia!
Great, great informative video!! I wish every candle maker and users would watch this! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
Thanks Poi! Misinformation is the real problem out there, not wax type. Especially when both are flat approved and no better or worse than the other. I believe wax type should be more aboht preference than anything else.
Black Tie Barn Candle Co. I agree with you! I use joy wax and I’m thinking to incorporate 6006 with it.
This is very informative! Thank you so much. I just wish more people were educated on this topic and be more open minded.
Totally agree! Thanks for the feedback! :)
New subscriber here, thank you for this information, it makes feel better about using different waxes!
No problem. Thanks for subscribing. :)
I only make candles for my own use and they are a important part of my families emergency plan. I am so glad that you addressed these myths. I have been watching alot of videos about candle making for various uses and am abit shocked by the misinformation on the net, even before I discovered you channel just today. The home candle makers out there need you efforts. Keep it up, I'll be going over your other videos and watching for more. Thanks
Thanks so much Richard. I appreciate that! Thanks for being here!
thank you so much for all of this! I'm thinking of having a "Why I am using this wax" section on my website to explain all those things to customers
Great idea! :)
I'm late to this conversation, but thanks for the video - a lot of great information there! One correction, though: Hydrogenation isn't the process of separating the oil from the bean - it's the process of turning the oil into a solid (wax). It's an important distinction because the process of extracting the oil from the flaked soy bean uses hexane (there are other methods, but hexane is the industry standard), which - like paraffin - is a derivative of the petroleum creation process.
Thanks again for producing great videos!
Ah, good catch. Thanks for the correction Phil!
This is eye opening information. Thanks so much!
Great video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You're welcome!
Great video, Thanks for clearing this up.
For sure! No problem!
Thank you so much for this video. Very informative and helpful
You're welcome!
I'm just starting out and this video was very useful for me as I fumbled over which wax to buy for nearly 3 weeks, but I wanted to try them for myself so I bought a box of paraffin and soy and will be trying them to see what the difference is. I'm doing wax melts so id like something that is going to hold the scent but also melt easier, and ur tip in 1 of ur other videos for using UV inhibitor and pouring my oils down a skewer is genius by the way, I'm so glad I found ur channel and I'm here to stay. Anymore tips will be much appreciated.
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you are getting value out of the videos. :)
THANK YOU for clarifying this!!
👍
Great and informative information to start my own candle business soon. Thanks!!
Thanks so much for the detailed information 🙌
You're welcome!
Thank you sooo much. My son and I are going to start a candle business we need all the info we can get. Thanks again
No problem Connie!
Can’t wait to get my coconut parrafin mix! Thanks for the info, working with soy was a nightmare for me 😆
Lol. Yah, not a super fan either
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you!
You're welcome Latoya. Thank you! :)
Thank you very much very informative very clear you got a great channel we really enjoy it we wish you great great success 👍 looking forward to future videos.
Thanks so much!
This video was very informative. Thank you
You're welcome!
Great video as always! Fantastic information!
And did learn more! May I add another detail that might not concern a lot of people but there is a percentage out there that though not allergic to the type of wax may be allergic to scents of any or all kind. I make unscented candles as well for those who do have this problem but love a lit candle in their home and often enough I do emphasize that to enjoy a candle it does not necessarily have to be scented.
Many thanks again for all that you are doing to help all of us candle makers.
God bless!🌹
Thanks Grace. And I completely agree. FOs tend to bother people much more than the wax.
My dad is allergic to “fragrance” so I’m trying to make naturally scented candles that he can have
Very nice detailed explanation❤ thank you🌹
This video was so dope!!! Thank you!!!
😁
Very very informative, really appreciate you🙏🏼
Thanks! No problem!
Thank you for this video, very very helpful 😊
Awesome. Thanks for the feedback! :)
So far.. the best video.. with lots of good point.. thank u so, much...well explain 👍😊
As someone who has tried all kinds of wax to make candles for my own consumption at home, I DONT GET why people use soy LOL. IT IS THE WORST! Sooo many easier, better scent throwing options.
I think many would agree with you. Definitely a market for both these days. I agree though thst paraffin is easier to work with.
@@davidramirez2782 yep... The marketing aspect of it is big for sure.
“Soy candles” only have to be like 51% soy wax to be called that right? So it’s probably just enough to be “soy” which supposedly burns more cleanly while still having paraffin or whatever else to make it easy and cheap
Because the soy industry is producing lots of soy and they’re marketing the crap out of it.
I noticed that some soy paraffin blend candles are being sold as 100% soy but it is to buttery smooth and creamy ,has me questioning were can I find that 100% soy wax
Very informative for a newbie…much appreciated!!
Glad it was helpful!
i remember as a kid , 1/2 century ago , when we got cuts or grazes , mum would break out the metal tin with paraffin gauze in it , cut a piece the size we needed and wrap it up . never had issues with it .
Your vids are really informative and it’s the right kind of information because there’s a lot of misinformation out there.
Thanks so much
so i am a new candle maker i am trying to get my business up and going to a full time job and leave my waitressing job, and i have made just paraffin wax candles and melts, now i didnt mind just paraffin wax, it has never left any bad soot or had any complaints on it. it has a great scent throw, and so easy to use for my first time using.. i am ordering my next shipment of wax, and so i came across your vid on learning about if i should get a soy blend wax because of all the others i see using soy and shaming paraffin wax ... and i am just like ahhh what did i just give my friends and family to burn in their houses!!!! so thank you i am going to for sure use this info on my now shipment THANK you for this vid and others you are a real smart man and couldnt do this without you!!
Yah.... most of it is just slander snd propaganda. Lol
very informative video. thank you. do you use any coconut or apricot blends?
Boom! Such great information!!
Thanks Stephanie! :)
Great video as always. 👍
Ty Scott
Great video & info! 🤗
Thank you!
This is very informative. I am using paraffin on wax melts and I literally just thought about it. The whole soy vs paraffin
❤👍
Thanks for this. You make a lot of sense
Ty
"if we get to 500 subscribers" dude, you're killin it!
😁
Thank you! Very informative video!
Thank you! Thanks for coming by!
LOVED this video!!! I have been struggling with soy and have wanted to try/change to parasoy. Feel like you gave me that green light! ❤ TY
You can do it!
Finally someone talks about the reason for the myths and how wax is not natural 👏👏. BTW Ur so adorable
🙂 And, thanks! Lol. ☺
I have learned so much by this one video even though I have been watching alot of soy wax candle making
😁 glad to hear. I use several waxes myself!
Thank You fur this video :) it helped a lot
I'm so glad!
Excellent presentation ‼️
Thanks Brenda!
Wow.....amazing video!!! Thank you again .
Thanks Mary!:)
Thank you for your video. Have been making candles from left over candle wax from family, friends and coworkers as a hobby for a few years. Slowly learning the fun of candle making. Out of curiosity, has your research provided any imsight which wax type in your humble opinion is most sustainable at this point in time? Also have you got a basic comprehensive guide which wax type is certain for certain candle types? I have worked woth different waxes, but prefer wax types that stick the least to jars or molds and don't leave a lot of mess when cleaning.
awsum job you are becomming my favorite person on video for candles
Ha. Well, thank you!
would you please consider doing a video on multilayered with different scents in a candle?
Very refreshing honest discussion.
Thank you for an amazing video and viable info.
You're welcome! :)
Great Video and Info Sir...
Thanks Robert!
Thank you for the unbiased information.
👍
I love paraffin and the HT I get from 6006. I especially love the spa like feature that you can use this wax for hand dips and makes my skin feel smooth and rejuvenated. I often see in Jeff's group that people attack Paraffin for the first point you mentioned in this video. I read an European study that paraffin burns just as clean as any other wax.
I completely agree. Most of the info out there is just regurgitated and not based in many facts unfortunately.
Hi Christy- do you by any chance have some pointers to the research you mention. I would love to read it. The myths around soy vs paraffin are interesting. Thanks

You're welcome. Thank you!
Thanks always so clear! love your videos...I have one question, how is it that some companies use food grade paraffin wax and not just paraffin on their blends? is there any advantage or reason of why using one and not the other one?
Most of the paraffin waxes on the market are food grade. Some just say it and others don't. I'm not sure if that answers your question
Love this video ... I keep testing my candles and now I’m more convinced I’m doing right to test first before opening my shop 🥰
Good for you! :)
Thank you so much for this video ❤

Great info!!
Thanks!

@@BlackTieBarn 👀👀 ill be tuning in. Trying to be a sponge for info
Awesome!
Great content, thank you!
Np!
I'm asthmatic,but wanted to start this,as a biz,once I learn
What a great video. Thank you. What about coconut wax? it is starting to trend. I look forward to a review on that one!!
It is trending as well... For sort of the same reasons as soy. Coconut has a few advantages over soy. It is less of an allergy problem than soy and its easier to work with. HT can still be an issue though as its not always FO friendly like paraffin is. Its also super soft and doesn't hold u well in summer heat similar to soy. But its pretty good overall.
Good day Wade, I hope everyone are well informed bout paraffin wax from your video. It helps me understand waxes better. Thanks a lot. Btw, what paraffin wax do you suggest to blend with if I am using soy 464 in order to get a good CT & HT?
With 464 I'd try any of the following: 6006, 4627, problend 400
I completely agree with the fragrance oil, part of the reason why I am learning to make candles is because there is way too much fragrance in store bought candles, and very few unscented candle makers.
I can handle some fragrance if it’s subtle, but like sugar and pastries, there is always too much fragrance and candles. Less means more!
