    Superb work! I was searching for a technique to join internal pickets to a curved top. Your example and explanation was perfect to point me in the right direction. Thank you!

    That is one beautiful gate. The flush side looks as good as the recessed. Really like how the shiplap is open ended on that side. Very pretty design.

    Very nice, I’ve been thinking of a gate, somewhat taller but you’ve answered some questions regarding the details. Thanks for the video, no bs or annoying music just great technique.

    Great job Joey!
    I built a western red cedar gate 6 months age and am working on a redwood pair right now.
    The cedar gate I used the porter cable Lock mortised to do the mortis But on the redwood gates I’m using the domino XL to do the mortises and I’m doing the tendon the exact same way you did.
    Always a good day when (king post posts) 😎

      It’s getting stained (clients choice) and top coated with exterior 450 from general finishes.
      I wanted to use cedar for these gates as well but the cost was out of the customers budget.
      I’m in San Diego and cedar is a fortune here.
      Thanks though dude.

    Hi Joey, question,,, I bought a band saw a couple of mos. ago, why does it cut like junk..? Burns and doesn't cut well. I am guessing the blade needs replacing. Any recommendations? Oh and your gate is sweet. Thanks

    • @aaronblakely5873
      @aaronblakely5873 6 років тому

      In addition to new blade, Check motor to see if it's the original motor (if you bought it second hand)might have replaced it with an underpowered one otherwise try cutting it slower.

    Great work as always! Love how the gate turned out and love the contrast with the fence it interacts with. Just curious about the design choice not to make a groove for the shiplap on the bottom rail. Was it a design choice or a functional one? Other than aesthetics, the only thing I could come up with is that you wouldn’t have an open groove in the bottom rail to collect water...

    A wipe - on polyurethane would have given better uv protection. Epoxy will not break down from the sun, if you apply exterior polyurethane over it.

    • @KingPostTimberWorks
      @KingPostTimberWorks  6 років тому +2

      The epoxy I used is made for marine conditions above or below the water so i think it should be fine. Time will tell.

    • @johnshoureas1629
      @johnshoureas1629 6 років тому

      That doesn't mean it has uv protection. You made a beautiful gate and I hate to see it ruined from the weather. Keep up the good work, we love your videos.

    • @JaredCzaia
      @JaredCzaia 6 років тому

      I believe anything marketed as marine grade typically has UV protection, and often well beyond that of non-marine grade finishes.
