Superb work! I was searching for a technique to join internal pickets to a curved top. Your example and explanation was perfect to point me in the right direction. Thank you!
Very nice, I’ve been thinking of a gate, somewhat taller but you’ve answered some questions regarding the details. Thanks for the video, no bs or annoying music just great technique.
Thanks Joey, very clear explanation of construction. Exactly what I've been looking for. Now just gotta find someone that wants me to make them a gate😀
Really nice work as usual my friend...u have a way about explaining I find myself enjoying my hobby as a wood finisher..thank u so much for ur videos..please keep them coming.. enjoyed
Beautiful gate the Sapele looks awesome really enjoyed this build picked up quite a few pointers and where I would have gone wrong appreciate all the information. Take Care.
Great job Joey! I built a western red cedar gate 6 months age and am working on a redwood pair right now. The cedar gate I used the porter cable Lock mortised to do the mortis But on the redwood gates I’m using the domino XL to do the mortises and I’m doing the tendon the exact same way you did. Always a good day when (king post posts) 😎
It’s getting stained (clients choice) and top coated with exterior 450 from general finishes. I wanted to use cedar for these gates as well but the cost was out of the customers budget. I’m in San Diego and cedar is a fortune here. Thanks though dude.
Joey, as always, amazing work. Such a wonderful variance of projects to showcase your gift. Hey, who manufactures the blue plastic shims you used? They are sweet. I’ve been using laminate samples from stores that get new ones from manufacturers. Again, thanks for the time and great video!
KingPost TimberWorks thanks! its hard to find work pants that aren't super baggy and made for a giant 300 pound dude. Looks like they don't sell those in the sates though...
Hi Joey, question,,, I bought a band saw a couple of mos. ago, why does it cut like junk..? Burns and doesn't cut well. I am guessing the blade needs replacing. Any recommendations? Oh and your gate is sweet. Thanks
In addition to new blade, Check motor to see if it's the original motor (if you bought it second hand)might have replaced it with an underpowered one otherwise try cutting it slower.
Great work as always! Love how the gate turned out and love the contrast with the fence it interacts with. Just curious about the design choice not to make a groove for the shiplap on the bottom rail. Was it a design choice or a functional one? Other than aesthetics, the only thing I could come up with is that you wouldn’t have an open groove in the bottom rail to collect water...
Hi Joey, do you think the gate will move much with the seasons? Our front gate seems to gain several mm in width over winter such that it rubs the post.. we're in rainy Auckland too. Keep up the great work and videos !
That is one good looking gate. I've made about 1/2 doz gates but for Chook pens and back garden gates out of pickets. No where near the quality of yours, just functional :D
if you ever need a cleaner , more accurate tenon I find a router plane works a little nicer than a rabbet plane. Not that it matters much as its all hidden.
That doesn't mean it has uv protection. You made a beautiful gate and I hate to see it ruined from the weather. Keep up the good work, we love your videos.

That is one beautiful gate. The flush side looks as good as the recessed. Really like how the shiplap is open ended on that side. Very pretty design.
Thank you

Gretings from Chile!!
Your gate came out really nice. I like your design.

Thanks Joey, very clear explanation of construction. Exactly what I've been looking for. Now just gotta find someone that wants me to make them a gate😀
Nice little job that one. Looked like you got lucky with a sunny install day too.
Cheers , ha we could see the rain front approaching as we installed!
Hey Joey! I hope all's well for you. I always look forward to seeing your videos. Are there any due to be released ? Don
That gate really did pop with the oil finish👍
Looks awesome, mate👌
Wow great idea he his. Without the machine can't build like this. Hope one day i have the machine what you have.
This gate can be made with a hand plane hand saws and chisels. Just takes longer
Really nice work as usual my friend...u have a way about explaining I find myself enjoying my hobby as a wood finisher..thank u so much for ur videos..please keep them coming.. enjoyed
Would love to see an update now the gate looks today
Great craftsmanship Joey!
Looks like it fits the design of the house very well.
Nicely done, the design and build came out awesome. Beautiful finish. And I’m always learning something valuable in your videos. Take care

Carpenter One3 Find a sealant to preserve that redwood color! We built a deck with it and after 4 months the nice red/pink color faded. GL2u

Great job Joey! Another master piece!
Cheers
Cool gate and video! Been missing you on the podcast!!
Sapele has a great color when finished. Great job.
Four years later...how is the sapele holding up to the insects and elements? I am considering the wood for a front porch.
Beautiful precision work!
Very Nice! Beautiful wood.
Wow! Beautiful door!
Always first class work Joey! Looks great.
Great job. I love this wood. Lately I've made my garden swing bench.
How wide should table legs be?
Is there a reason why you dont aquire/use the Felder dado tooling for youre saw?
$$$$
Nice job !
Like the idea of the curve being dressed by hand, a nice story for the client to tell
Can you tell us where you get the shims that you're using on this project?
Nice project, I enjoyed watching.
Simply an awesome job as expected from you.
Thanks!
I like it and really enjoyed your video
Do have a Festool Domino ?
Can we purchase plans for that gate or any of your projects....
Bloody good for a first go Joey 👍👍👍
Why do you not idé Felders dado blade set? To expensive or?
To much $$$$
Well done 👍🏻 thanks for sharing.
welcome back good job
Where did I go?
Beautiful gate man.
Great job. Inspiration for my next job.
18 months later, how is the finish holding up? I found this researching options for finishing Sapele outdoor furniture. Tempted to leave it natural.
The epoxy is great but needs a uv resistant top coat
Pretty dang nice Joey...as usual!
Cheers
Awesome build the gate looks wonderful
Thats look very nice, but why are you using Epoxy for the glue? and not waterproof wood glue?
Epoxy is waterproof. And it's a wood glue.

Wow, absolutely enjoy watching you create these masterpieces!
Thanks!
Very very very Gooooooooooooooooooooooooodddddddddddd, Congratulation
random question.... where do you get those pants?!?!
By Cat as in catapilla diggers. Style is machine pants. Best ever.
KingPost TimberWorks thanks! its hard to find work pants that aren't super baggy and made for a giant 300 pound dude. Looks like they don't sell those in the sates though...
Lipstick on the tenon when fitting to motice.
Nice work mate.

Thank you, brand new so probably the blade.
Beautiful!!
Thanks
very nice gate, what brand of epoxy is used to cote the gate?
Very nice project!!! Thank you! Could you tell, what the epoxy glue (name/brand)?
Great work as always! Love how the gate turned out and love the contrast with the fence it interacts with. You got . I didn't want to make a trough for water
@@KingPostTimberWorks
Отличная работа , поздравляю! Скажите, какую древесину вы используете? (Russian)
simple fix to that is drill several small drain holes down through the trough to the bottom for drainage
Now that’s a solid gate
Hi allcan any one tall me from where I can get timber with good price on Auckland?
Bbs timbers
Hi Joey what is the name and brand of the epoxy your using mate it looks good and strong
The glue is called builders glue. By CRC
thanks mate I'll give it a go
Nice job 👍
Awesome mate.
your shit is always on-point, great looking stuff
beautiful work amaz , the sapele just pops with the teak oil, Nice...
might be perspective but that orange router looks massive!!!
Yea is a best 3 horsepower triton
great job
teak oil for outdoor gate? that won't last too long.
You're the man Joey!
Nice work!
Hi Joey, do you think the gate will move much with the seasons? Our front gate seems to gain several mm in width over winter such that it rubs the post.. we're in rainy Auckland too. Keep up the great work and videos !
It will move some . It has 15mm to the post so will be ok I think.
I love to work in the field of carpentry. can you teach me .
Beautiful, hope nobody steals it
Well done! What type of epoxy finish do you use?
Great looking gate, Joey. Was that installed on a motel?
No an apartment
Very nice . . .
That is one good looking gate. I've made about 1/2 doz gates but for Chook pens and back garden gates out of pickets. No where near the quality of yours, just functional :D
looks really simple
Так красиво, просто супер.
It looks beautiful, but why red? The fence is espresso brown, it should be the same color :)
fingers look good you know your flex my man
awesome!
Joey. That’s gotta be two days work plus materials? Who’s paying £600 approx for a small gate?? Great customers that’s who!!!😀😀
Yup
beautiful
if you ever need a cleaner , more accurate tenon I find a router plane works a little nicer than a rabbet plane. Not that it matters much as its all hidden.
Perfect!
A wipe - on polyurethane would have given better uv protection. Epoxy will not break down from the sun, if you apply exterior polyurethane over it.
The epoxy I used is made for marine conditions above or below the water so i think it should be fine. Time will tell.
That doesn't mean it has uv protection. You made a beautiful gate and I hate to see it ruined from the weather. Keep up the good work, we love your videos.
I believe anything marketed as marine grade typically has UV protection, and often well beyond that of non-marine grade finishes.
