I really appreciate this post Liz. Not only your spirit of experimentation with your chosen media but also what you see as your successes and less successful marks. I especially love the way that you use the white of the paper as part of your work and your use of colours. I was struck by your frequent return to a limited palette as being the more successful experiments. Thank you so much for sharing your sketch books and your thoughts. By the way - I thought you were being rather tough on yourself! This is a beautiful project. Thank you

Hi Anna, thanks so much for your comments and observations. I am glad that you enjoyed the video. Yes its interesting that the limited pallet seems to have more impact (at least for me). Yes, I am rather tough on myself -you are right. But I am also trying to be honest so that I have those concrete thoughts to move forward with.

Thanks - I think it’s good to try different sizes- the small size means that you can do quite a few but scaling up teaches us other things.

Thanks Cathy much appreciated. The pastels you ask about are Unison so they are very soft but gorgeous intense colours. I have their landscape set.

Such a wonderful and beautiful way to use your sketchbook without getting overwhelmed what I'm finding with my Windermere studies. I'm looking forward to your online course because I really dont know how to progress with experiments with all bits of them all over the place in my room. I was getting on with it in the beginning but now lost the plot. I purchased liquidex inks but they are so light to handle that I have spilt more on the table than on paper because I am clumsy. I'm trying to find a way which inks are better for me to handle. I have same trouble with Wallace Seymour bottle of ink would you believe. Sounds stupid doesnt it? I do have a Seniliar bottle of ink that seems robust to handle. They seem more sturdy.Great explorations with your materials.
Your study so far looks great.

Thanks for your comments Leila!- I think you will find that getting lost is a somewhat common thing- this is where some journalling can help . But part of it is that it isn’t a linear process like following a recipe would be. I was t aware that the sennelier bottles were more robust- Perhaps it’s the shape of the bottle?
