    Coolest DIY I've seen in a while. After losing MOST of my blue back herring this weekend on a striper outing, I'll be making one of these for my kayak.. I don't need to hold catch, just keep bait alive and lively. Thanks for the idea and inspiration brother!

    Have you ever considered making a portable cooler livewell using standard boat livewell tech? Most DIY builds simply recirculate the water in the cooler & provide some aeration, but I'd LOVE to see one that pulls in cooler lake water from a hose & allows overflow drainage. Ideally, the inlet hose would be long enough to pull from a depth to reach cool water, not just the top where the boat's hull sits.

  • @airdreams1
    @airdreams1 2 роки тому +3

    When you push the wires through, leave them about the thickness of the cooler on the inside then slather with silicone & pull into place. It will help get more sealant on the inside in case it ever tries to leak. After it's in place then put your bead of silicone around the inside and beat around the outside that way you're hopefully one hundred percent covered.

    I've made many types of live wells over the years including the spray bar ones. But my favorite is simpler and actually works better. Get a small bilge pump with the strainer intake on the bottom. Next get a piece of perhaps two inch thick styrofoam eight or more inches in diameter. Cut a hole through the middle just a shade larger than the pump intake. Tywrap the pump to the styrofoam with the strainer in the hole. Fill the ice chest with water and toss the pump in under the styrofoam. Yes the pump is upside down. Wire it and turn it on. It'll quickly foam the water with far more air than any spray bar will manage and circulate the hell out of the water. I've overcrowed a live well with shrimp and fished the entire day in summer heat and never lost a single shrimp. Another plus is the strainer is on the top and doesn't get stopped up with shrimp shells and such.

    @Fishin N Stuff, I built my own live well using your video as a guide and it is awesome- thank you! I have a question about your battery practices 🔋 . Do you run your tank the whole time you’re fishing, or do you kill the power every so often? My knowledge on batteries isn’t much, and I fish typically all night for Cats, so I fear a dead battery is imminent if I ain’t smart with it. I power my live well with a kayak battery, FYI. I’d love your advice/input along with any other fans of yours who happen to read this comment.

    It would be an improvement to hook up with a timer switch and also a water inlet, exit setup. Obviously this will have to be a fixed install. You can get cooler guards for the cooler to keep it in place while motoring.

    Oh yeah, how do you fill it up on the boat? I have been there and done that with these. You ether have to keep a separate pump and hose setup to fill it up with or leave enough hose on the well pump can pitch out of the boat and into the water so you can fill the well. Filling them any other way sucks and/or can cause an accident.

    can you make a smaller version of this as a bait bucket? I like that pump much better than using those bubblers with the stones any advise?

    • @FishinNStuff
      @FishinNStuff  2 роки тому

      I'll try and think of something . The only problem I would think would be that it will need a bigger battery than a bubble box to run the bigger pump

  • @Justin-tp3lr
    @Justin-tp3lr 4 роки тому +1

    Do you find the pump heats the water up? I was thinking of making one with a different style pump and have it suck the water through the drain plug and drill another hole for the pvc to run back in.

      No I didn't notice but I only used it for a tournament I eas in and a couple more times but it was bei cold so , , I'm sorry but I never noticed.
