Nice tutorial! I used to do replacement screen and umd disc drive a lot and selling back on eBay way back! Not that hard to do when you have the right tools! Great video and keep up the good work!
Thanks for your video, I was able to fix my screen "issue". My PSP 1001 had a speck of dust between the LCD and the shell for ages (since someone gifted it to me in 2009!). I was a child, and thought it was a crack inside lmao.
Thanks, I like how you dont have an extra 15 20 mins like everyone else ganna replace the screen and battery in my 1000 and battery in 3000 to give to my kids to have
I accidentally broke the small plastic part that holds the smaller cable of the screen in place (5:32), I put the cable into the port pretty good and it probably won't come out unless I drop it or something but out of curiosity do you know what is that small cable responsible for? I want to see if its something that I can live without I can use a small bit of duck tape on it to hold it in place if it comes to it but I really don't want to open it again, the screws are very small and hard to put back in place + my hands shake a bit which is not helpful in this situation
It looks like this replacement is identical to the original blurry PSP-1000 screen. The soldering is needed for IPS replacements, because otherwise the graphics won't fit on the screen properly.
I see so many ads for these screens and they always mention shorting some pins. I noticed you didn't solder anything. How would we know whether to solder or not solder these pins? Also, does the clear plastic screen come off the black shell easily or is that glued on ?
No soldering needed! If there were I wouldn’t have done it as I’m not that great with a soldering iron just yet. And yup, comes off fairly easily just go slow!
I just ordered the same screen.. everything is plugged in correctly but when i power on the psp, it's dark. I can see it when i shine a light on it.. any ideas of what i did wrong??
Hmm, I didn't encounter that myself, but for starters I'd double check the ribbon connection to make sure it's secure. It may just be a defective unit as well!
I changed it now, but now my screen has a horizontal thin black line going across the screen. Is it just because the screen is busted already or did I do something wrong? EDIT: My psp is 2000-model
Don't be rough on the inside of the faceplate, it can get scratched very easily, if you want to clean it use cotton balls and distilled water, then remove the cotton fibers with compressed air.
Is soldering necessary?🤔 Because I watched a lot of videos doing soldering. I just wanted to know the reason why people solder.😅 Thanks I'm waiting for your reply 😊
Tried it today only a quater of the screen showes picture the rest was all grey and ribbon colours. Il send screen back and get replacement and try again
I'm pretty good at fixing and rebuilding PSPs 1000 models. I bought one with a broken screen put in one of my test screens in and it works but this is where it gets weird. I bought new screens and installed one and it doesn't work the screens I bought are good I did I tested them.
I changed my screen on PSP back in 2019 and I felt like a god cause I never really fixed anything (successfully) before lol.
Right?! It felt pretty great to save this little guy from just being a so-so console and bring him back up to snuff.
Now that I see how easy this is ill get a new screen! Thanks i SUCK at soldering
Most definitely! I don't do well with it either which made this particularly appealing as a fun project :p
@@YourPlayer2 excellent video. Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks man! Oh wow I bet the UMD drive is is a LOT more complicated though!
@@YourPlayer2 It's really not that bad! The only thing that's tedious is to put the spring back in place for the door on the 1000 model
Great video! I've repaired my Dreamcast and a Playstation 2. It's nice to save something from being e-waste.
Was it the optical drives I'm guessing?
@@YourPlayer2 repaired the optical drive on the ps2 and on the dreamcast I had to fix the controller ports. I also installed a 120gb ssd in ps2.
Although I didn't need to know how to replace a PSP screen, I enjoyed watching this nonetheless
LoL well now you know and I'm glad you could still dig it :)

You're most welcome and glad you were able to get it sorted!
On 4:40 I can't pry the bottom left and bottom right but I was able to pry the top left and right using a 2mm Flathead.
And I don't have a prying tool on me.
I used a REALLY tiny screwdriver for it personally but it can definitely be stubborn!

I try to keep things pretty swift and glad it was helpful :) I'm sure they'll be thrilled!

Looks like it might be power but I'm not 100% certain to be honest with ya :\
@@YourPlayer2 it really was a stupid idea to have each of them open in a way opposite to eachother...
going to do this soon. thank you!
You're most welcome and good luck!
Was this Any BRIGHTER AT ALL?
Maybe a bit but I wouldn't say SIGNIFICANTLY that I could see.
Is this a direct copy of the psp 1000 screen? Because for those who dont know the psp shipped with a tft display which can cause ghosting.
I don't think it's an exact copy- Or maybe it just SEEMS better to me somehow after I finished the installation?
Could you please explain what is the point in soldering that other videos show, and why you didn't do it?
No idea! All I know is the screen I purchased for this one only needed the ribbon connection to be in place :)
@@YourPlayer2 could you give a link to the store where i can buy it?

I can't get my hands on the kapton tape right now, is it completely necessary or is it ok to just leave it as is?
Honestly it's hard to say- It might be fine but I personally wouldn't risk it, mostly because I'm not a hardware engineer or anything :p
@@YourPlayer2 Is there any other tape I could use? Like some general electrical tape or is that too thick or something?

Gah, that was an oversight on my part- I'll keep this in mind if I do any future replacements or modifications and thanks for the feedback, dude! :)

Oh weird? Hopefully they got you a replacement!
I have a psp with a messed up screen and a missing a back plate for the battery, I bought a battery and a charger brand new not to long ago

That IS odd! Not even sure how I'd start troubleshooting that if you've already isolated it to the system itself and not the screens?
@@YourPlayer2 I wonder if using a soldering gun to the chips would help the solder reconnect
Did this reduce ghosting?
Maybe slightly? But it's hard to say since I don't have the best eye for that sort of thing.
Helpful
Glad to hear it!
What is the name of the tape?
Kapton tape- Here's an affiliate link to some on Amazon - amzn.to/3XzEkPO
Tnx believe it or not but i squashed a bug in between my casing and screen. Now over been able to remove the little shit and enjoy my psp onze again.
OH man that's unfortunate but glad you were able to get it back to par! RIP bug friend.
Lol what ahppen if you still have the crack screen
LoL I trashed it :p
