I wrote to Bear McCreary the shows musical director so many years ago. A short email. Musician to musician asking his advice, never expecting an answer. He took the time to write a wonderful response. As a fan of the show and the music it fills me to watch this video years later and know that all of these actors were living a great experience. Bear McCreary. You are the tits. Great music in the right places at the right time.
What Battlestar Galactica means to me is that there is always hope. Even at the darkest times in life, when everything seems pointless, it is there, like some mystical beacon in the fog of misery. Somehow, it is there. You just need to find the courage to reach for it. I know that sounds cheesy, but it's true. I speak from experience. Thank you BSG. I will never, ever forget you.
And as the world resembles more and more evidently that portrayed by the great writers of this series, BSG becomes every more poignant. Alien invasions will be faked, AIs unleashed to create ever more confusion in the hope for a central control that is ever harder to achieve as humanity awakens to its true potential realising the artificial nature of the general scarcity we are forced to live in. Fracking serves to poison our water as electricity is in fact produced for next to nothing. The enemy is within our own ranks. Hope isn't enough, courage is what it takes. And what a great example we have seen here. Thank you.
Thanks so much for writing that, I've never had a piece of art resonate with me the way BSG did. It felt like it was made for me. I was lucky to watch it a few months before I became very ill. I've been physically sick for a number of years (since I was 18,25) with a brain condition, rare as you can get, not life threatening, but its absolute misery, and BSG is one of the one only things that I have been able to draw inspiration from. Its as good as Aristotle, Marcus Aurelius in helping me keep going. Its the ultimate stoic show because its about decent, but flawed people making something out of the mire, some small measure of peace. Its full of quotes and themes that make me value life even when I can't. I love that its not show about anti-heroes, but people and humanity/surrogate families as a whole, because real people don't fit a genre ultimately. It's a story that matters and its straight talking, unvarnished yet /movingsensitive/courageous odyssey has never been more needed by people in general. As an aside: A lot of the things that society deingrates as cheesy are the things that make life worth living and whole/wholesome, me thinks that society is sick and has no right preaching against what's pure in the hearts of people, what's always being there. A shoutout to eeemotion for a great comment too.
As an actor and a writer, I always dream of being part of projects like BSG. Along with "Farscape" it is the best sci-fi show on television in recent years...and there are many other good ones. Great writing and talented cast! I'm on the last few episodes of Season 4, and I'll be sad to reach the end.
This show turned out to be both more and less than i expected. The special effects, the story lines and the actors, were so incredible that i was mesmerized by it. At the same time there was a lot that went unexplained...especially at the end. That's why the books by Edward T. Yeats III are so essential to completely understanding the BSG universe. After i read the books, all the mysteries at the end fell perfectly into place.
Agreed. I almost shed man-tears, and that's how you know that what you just watched affected you on a deeper level than just "...ok, cool." BSG is to date the greatest show of all time, regardless of genre. Of this I'm also sure because I've even got sci-fi haters to watch this show, and a few days later they always come back to me with panic in their eyes asking to borrow the next season box set. Thanks cast and crew for BSG.
not very often good shows come along... this was truly a good show... not just action but the characters grew on you. you felt for their issues... tv just isnt the same... and bear... your music is the greatest... ron and the crew... excellent jobs
Dude, I'm a twenty year old Harley-riding tattoo'd chain smoker, and I will freely admit I cried like a little bitch during the series finale. It was probably the most touching television show I have ever seen, and, as far as I'm concerned, had an absolutely perfect ending. Never a dull moment, never an episode I'd skip if I rewatched the show. Greatest serial on television. Period.
I just finished it as well. I had been putting it off for years even though my friends kept telling me to watch it .Now that I have I can't believe how stupid I was for ignoring it, and I can't believe there's no more :(
@AnteyPL I enjoyed it the whole way through. At the end i was in tears and didn't want it to end. The music was amazing and the idea and actors were amazing. After 5 years you get to know these characters and don't want to see them go. It's like seeing a friend go after 5 years.
I was there from beginning to end, it was a fracking wild ride. I loved every adventure, I laughed, I cryed and the journey will never be forgotten, so say we all.
It took me a while to get to this point but, I'm really enjoying discovering BSG and the many metaphorical and spiritual undertones to show has, definitely love this series... SO SAY WE ALL
+Two years afterwards and I still choke up when watching one of the greatest TV series of all time. That's a bold statement, I know. But the astounding music by McCreary, the acting ensemble, the storylines by Moore and the direction by Rymer and others....I have to say that I have never, EVER seen another TV show reach the epic heights of drama exhibited by BSG. Absolutely perfect for its time. This show is "Lord of the Rings" for TV. Maybe even better.
I have never found another TV show that has given me this feeling of sad joy, because there really isn't. This show is one of the most brilliantly written ever, and if I ever see this show continue, (which seems highly unlikely with the information I have) I would definitely turn it on and watch it. A long journey to Earth, and a great journey it was. "So Say We All"
I just finished the entire series without commercials. I sadly agree that it will never be surpassed because it excelled in every artistic area - creativity, plot development, music, characterization... It was a show about adults (unlike 99%of the trash) and emotions that only those with experiences can grasp. It was like watching something almost alien - the pathos and poetry, the exploration of the human condition without neat endings, the mystery and the mythology. So say we all..
Here I am, Christmas eve basically crying over this video (and trust me, I took a lot of shit in my life without shedding a single tear). This show is the best that has ever been, EVER, there's no doubt about that. I only hope they will turn the Blood & Chrome series into a reality, just so we have something close to the awesomeness that was BSG Galactica.
It's okay to admit you got emotional. I'm a guy, and I don't normally cry about things, but after finally watching this show and seeing the series finale, it touched me on a deeper emotional level than most things do. That last show made me come close to balling like a little kid a couple of times. I'm still having trouble letting go.
So say we all! And for all those guys who miss BSG so so so much - watch it again! I started for the 2nd time and it's a really weird (and great) feeling to know who are all the cylons (although the viewer shouldn't at the time) and it makes you really understand a lot of stuff that happened in the series. Lot of stuff you didn't understand on the first run.
@Donut1298 The actor who played Hot Dog, Bodie Olmos, is the son of the actor who played Admiral Adama, Edward James Olmos. Hot Dog's name in the series was Brendan Constanza. As a character he wasn't related to the Admiral.
@jakefree25 The guy who played Zarek was Apollo I, not Starbuck. I know this has been said before, and will be said again - but this was the best show ever. I loved it A LOT and could rewatch it A LOT. BSG will truly be missed. Thank you to the cast and crew for bringing this show into our lives. So say we all!
Aye, I've loved SciFi for more years than I care to count, and BSG is easily the best series of the past twenty years at the very least. I just wish Ron D. Moore had got the chance to finish Caprica as a whole tale, and/or do Blood & Chrome...
I wasn't able to watch the finale. I was just halfway to watching the S1 DVD set at the time and finished S3 two weeks later. I'm planning to buy both S4 and S4.5 when the latter comes out in July, but I can't miss BSG enough. I hope they include the last frakking special plus anything related to the finale in the S4.5 set. I'll look forward to it. Guaranteed. SO SAY WE ALL... Always.
completely agree man. BB is amazing, way up there with this. But I have such a sentimental attachment to this and whilst I don't necessarily agree about the ending (although it wasn't as bad as some people say) I share your sentiment completely. A frakking amazing show.
When I heard they were remaking Galactica, I was sure they were going to frak it up, but it turned out to be probably the best thing I've watched on TV in 20 years.
5 Year movie. He said it the best. Thats why this story seemed so epic. It wasn't episode after episode of "fillers", it was all plot driven ( Unlike CSI's, etc ). It allowed it to not grow boring or stagnant with the same formula regurgitated each show.
@Domzdream One thing that really touched me was that, during the 1992 Rodney King Riots in Los Angeles, when many people left the city (it was chaos, dammit), Olmos went out with a broom and worked to get communities cleaned up and rebuilt, risking arrest, being beaten up or worse. And f**** it, he's quite good looking, though Jim Carrey said he looks like "the latino side of the moon" :))
D'Anna chose to remain on the Cylon Earth and I guess Kara's name is a reference to the death of their civilization as they settle on New Earth and forget about the past.
I mean you can take it in different ways, but Kara was the one person who set in motion the chain of events that led to the cylon alliance and the destruction of the hub ... ending resurrection for the cylons. On top of that, there's the even more straight-forward one: she was a messenger/guide and she was dead. So maybe it's a slight play on words.
This is by far the best tv show i've seen. There are other great show like Dexter or Breaking Bad but BSG tops them all. And my favourite character is Starbuck. She's great.

+BetaArtemis and he supports the best team - COYS!!!
Great show. Excellent cast. All of them. Shame it had to end.
All things come to an end

Frakkin' best show I've watched in a long time too, Bill. Got all 4 seasons on blu-ray. So say we all!
Agreed.

oh man, I just teared up through this, the music, the characters, the actors, the whole show top to bottom, so amazing, so authentic, so great.
Dude, I'm a twenty year old Harley-riding tattoo'd chain smoker, and I will freely admit I cried like a little bitch during the series finale. Every Ending in one place, leads to a New Beginning somewhere else
i miss this show so much
Brilliant show. I can't believe I missed it all those years ago
I absolutely love this show. It gave me goose bumps just watching this video. I may need to restart the series again.
@AnteyPL I enjoyed it the whole way through. At the end i was in tears and didn't want it to end. The music was amazing and the idea and actors were amazing. After 5 years you get to know these characters and don't want to see them go. It's like seeing a friend go after 5 years.
For far, The very best and more special frakking show in World TV! I`ll miss you so much.... SO SAY WE ALL!!!!

Brings total tears to my eyes. A crew that will never be frakin forgotten, So Say We All!!!!!
Almost shed man-tears? Dude, I was practically bawling. There has never been anything like this before, and we can only hope there will be again.
+Two years afterwards and I still choke up when watching one of the greatest TV series of all time. That's a bold statement, I know. I finished this show about a month ago. Watched every episode and loved it. I cried a little when Roslin died :(

Gotta love how the ads for GHOST HUNTERS ruins this beautiful close. I hate when TV stations do this.
what a down to earth crew
amazing

Yes he is. I think they have done a couple of things together. I hope we get some behind the scene footage of those two.
Watching series 3 at the moment, and my son (new recruit) is hassling me to buy the rest!
It's okay to admit you got emotional. Godsdamn I love this frakking show and all of the souls in it...
:D yeah he was in Stand and Deliver with his father and was in Walkout which was directed by his father.
I totally agree... BSG was/is a unique experience. The only show where I had to own every season/episode etc. Just sad that Caprica didn't do as well.
This series felt like a long movie indeed, and I'm glad it turned out that way :)
One of the best TV shows to date. Period
I cried when it ended.
@Donut1298 The actor who played Hot Dog, Bodie Olmos, is the son of the actor who played Admiral Adama, Edward James Olmos. Hot Dog's name in the series was Brendan Constanza. As a character he wasn't related to the Admiral.
Guess I know what I'll be watching again!!
BSG is film that I addicted. Players are very very succesfull. So I like it much...
I'M NOT CRYING.
"Flight Suit weight loss program" LMAO!!!
So say we all!
you are not alone.
i have to watch it again
2020, .. I am getting fucking old.. missing BSG.
i think it is referring to the "flight suits" the cast used during the shooting of the series
One of the best Sci-Fi series ever written. Congratulations to all the actors, directors and writers.
Aye, I've loved SciFi for more years than I care to count, and BSG is easily the best series of the past twenty years at the very least. I just wish Ron D. Moore had got the chance to finish Caprica as a whole tale, and/or do Blood & Chrome...

Frakkin BEST show ever, ever made!!! So say we all!!!

BEST FRAKKING SHOW to date.
SO SAY WE ALL.
When I heard they were remaking Galactica, I was sure they were going to frak it up, but it turned out to be probably the best thing I've watched on TV in 20 years.
SO SAY WE ALL!!!!
BSG was insanely humanly, realistic and consistent show within itself.
EVERYONE, SO SAY WE ALL
Tricia laughter in the end is very funny :)
I LOVE THIS BEAUTYFULL SHOW!!!(or how it's calling). I cant imagine what was with me, if i don't saw this film... And my English too bad)

still can't believe Grace Park was 30 to 35 years old while filming Galactica.
