- In this video I am restoring/refinishing a vintage dresser that I found at a local online auction. I saw this piece of furniture online and I knew it had some potential, with modern updates by adding new legs and some refinishing I knew it could look great. This was my first furniture restoration/refinishing type video where I avoid using paint! I hope you all enjoy and if you want more videos like this let me know in the comments below.

Glad you chose to restore the wood rather than paint it. Looks great with the hairpin legs & matching hardware. 👍😊
Me too, I really find the new color of the wood is more modern and adding the new legs really helped it look new too! Thanks for watching Donna!
I love that you do this with basic tools. I always laugh/ roll my eyes when something says DIY and you see them in a full-on wood shop with all the bells and whistles.
That is absolutely gorgeous. Love that you saved the wood.
Turned out very nice. I like how you reused the hardware and whatever tools you have. Great work.
At first I thought the color was too dark after you had sanded it down, but looking at it after completion it looks really nice and I enjoyed seeing the process. Didn't know there were so many steps.
Beautiful work on restoring the wood finish. The original was super shiny, didn't invite touch. Yours has good luster, brings out wood figure and grain.
One thought: it looks like that hardware is solid brass: it sanded to a beautiful finish!!! Some folks know that when they see it, and will pay extra for it. I certainly would.
I respect your choice to put on black hardware, it works well for this piece. So, maybe next time, I suggest you polish and lacquer such hardware (a quick coat of spray lacquer keeps the tarnish away), and save it for another project. Decently made black hardware is very cheap at the hardware store.
It is gorgeous. Glad you didnt paint that dresser. Love the stain color you used.
Wow. This is so beautiful.
Thanks, I enjoyed this one! Lots of work though haha
I really like the color stain you chose as well as the hairpin legs and the black pulls. Thank you for sharing the process. It's helpful to see it recorded in real time too.. not sped up. I hope you make a nice profit...you worked hard on that dresser!😊
Thanks Rita :) it’s a bit more work to restore the full finish, but I think this style is popular where I live and should sell for more than an ordinary painted flip!
Some of your best work, man👍🏼 That natural wood look is *chef's kiss*.
Thanks Luc, appreciate the kind words.
You might like to watch the lady from Black Sheep House. The way she puts on poly leaves it flawless. Thank u for another great flip and passing on some great skills. You have come along way.
It’s nice to see someone use a carbide scraper and card scraper. Also glad to see you keep the wood.
They are a lot of fun honestly haha plus they work great 👍🏻 glad I picked them up! Thanks for watching
Thanks, my Mom passed away and I am redoing some of her furniture for my adult children, so this was a great help.
Sorry for your loss. Thank you for watching and glad I could help.

You are such a pro!!! I love it!! And I love your voice!! Lol
Gorgeous man!!! Really nice
Thank you Jennifer!
Looks great. Well done. I'm watching lots of videoes on restorations and saw one where they boiled the hardware up in vinegar. They were stunning. Black looked great but just sharing a hint.
It looks beautiful you did a great job again! I liked the feet good idea.
Classic!!! Great work... when I use old school tools I feel a real carpenter 😳🤣
Thanks Michelle :) and hahah totally true 😂
Really pretty
Glad you like it!
AWESOME
THANKS :)
Nice work
Thanks Danica!
If you cover the stripper it works wonders and prevents the stripper from drying out
BeeeeeUtiful!!!! wow
Glad you liked it Toni!!
@@FurnitureFlippa ever since watched you put legs on pieces i am all into that...its a simple way to change a look.
If there is wood in good enough condition that I can restore and show off some of it I love to keep it and only paint some of it. Obviously only painting the areas that aren't in good enough condition, hate to hide some of that beautiful and natural wood
This is really good info as planning to do same. I got Dixy bell gel stain in walnut. I'm amazed u use wood filler and still stain afterwards. It doesn't show?
Good job...👏👏👏🇪🇸🇮🇨
5:34 Hi thanks for the video, newbie here :) sorry I didn't catch why you don't just sand here, as long as you're careful not to sand too much
What was the scrapper tool that you used, love watching your videos where you strip and stain the wood ☺️
Thank you!! The tool is in the description* :)
Fabulous!! What was the scraper that you used?
Thanks!! & I just added it to my product list above in description :)
How did the parts with filler turn out? Mine get a muddy look 🤔
Great job!! I have a question about your comment on not sanding too long on veneer. Wondering what the risk is? I do it a lot but I’m a newbie so was wondering.
Veneer is super thin, once you sand through it there’s no going back. Now when you stain it you will see this unattractive patch that doesn’t match the wood grain. So basically if you are staining you don’t want to sand through, if you’re painting it’s not that big of a deal, paint hides the issue! Hopefully this helps.
@@FurnitureFlippa Thank you for explaining in detail. I truly appreciate it. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
You put a lot of time into stripping it and it was worth it. It turned out great!
thanks nancy!
Do you have to use stain remover or can you sand old stain off?
You can sand but you risk sanding through veneer!
Use a sanding block, you monster... thank you for sharing. Sub'd
does your stipper smells like posin?
Hey, you should consider wearing an N95 mask when you sand things. Particulates are really bad for your lungs and better safe than sorry! Not sure what the specs are on wood stuff, but when I worked with concrete it was a basic requirement to be safe.
Its handsome
Thanks Alicia!
Uh. I glanced at the thumbnail and at first thought the left picture was after. Both versions OK really.
You don't like it!?
@@FurnitureFlippa Actually I do like it. I also thought before was nice and could have been lightly refinished. That's OK. This is about all the creativity and ideas we all have.
I think you are talented, and I like that you tend to economize. Keep it up.
@@willtheman840 thanks man!! and thanks for watching!
do you always have to use a mask?
that is coming out because of the type of wood...using sheelac will take care of it...bleed thru is not fun...it will show up thru ur finish until u take care of it...
the piece kind of has a red tint, likely from the wood bleed and I am guessing a bit from the old finish too. I wonder what type of wood veneer this was.
@@FurnitureFlippa I do not know much about wood types, but one thing for sure old furniture have that issue...so instead of wasting time and have to redo all the hard work later is best to use the shellac...learned the hard way lol
So glad you didn’t paint it, but I feel like the legs weren’t needed and the hardware was better brass. A for effort, but the whole midmod aesthetic leans heavily on less being more. It’s a no from me.
