Garth Brooks is a Wal-Mart cowboy. Waylon is an absolute legend.
Look at their bank accounts. Garth has more everything over Waylon. Including having the hotter wife. I mean Waylon's wife has a dudes name. lol Trish has ASS n Titties for days!
He's from Oklahoma and still lives here. Like him or hate him you can't say he is a walmart cowboy.

Waylon is a true legend. Garth was the beginning of the fall of country music.
You got that right!
well done michele and accurate.
Waylon was an ass hole. Lol at least he was better than Barf Brooks.
I never liked Brooks' sound. To me he did not sing Country .

True but Garth Gaines was also a pop star..........Bahahahahahahaahahaa
Really? I just know him because he is a well known racist. Probably never heard any of his songs.

Garth Brooks was a manufactured pop star-- he represented everything Waylon hated about music. The big productions, the polished sound. When country music started going in that direction-- Waylon kept stripping his music back down. He always went against the grain and the fans loved it.

Garth is a flaming liberal and his bar will go out of business and his ticket sales will plummet.
There is no comparison catalogue wise, and Waylon was also a far superior guitarist.

Waylon is my shit
If you’re in your 80s and can hear, Jennings could be your guy. I suspect senility may play some part. Some BIG part.
Waylon tokin’ all day, every day.
I read that shooter Jennings said his favorite quote ever from his dad Waylon was “Garth Brooks did for country music what pantyhose did for finger fu@king” 😂😂
And, he said it in a radio interview with Carl P. Mayfield on 103.3 FM when it was country. Carl asked Waylon what he thought of the new crop of young country singers.and mentioned Garth. But, Garth is an absolute Prince. And, deserves what he has. I met him at the Opry backstage and he did me a solid letting a sweet older lady friend of mine come back and meet him. I met Waylon too. Porter was my good friend. One night he asked me if I wanted to go pick up Waylon and Carl Smith at the Geo theatre as he tossed me his Mercedes keys. Waylon was kind of suspicious. But, my step-daughter had just been in his music video so I had an in. I love both of these legends
never heard that one but very good one
I've always felt like Garth was corporate creation made to appeal to the masses. Waylon came across as much more authentic person which made his songs have a real weight to them. Plus his voice is probably my favorite in country music along with Don Williams.
100, Garth was a corporate creation, an actor playing a scripted role. Gross 🤮🤮🤮
Yep Don Williams was pretty smooth, liked him to.
I loved Waylon & I thought he was the best next to Conway Twitty. Waylon had a one of a kind voice & said & did it his way. R.I.P Waylon you will always be loved & missed.

Waylon was the man, Garth doesn't even compare.
I met Waylon in the early 1980’s. He actually stopped and talked to a handful of fans waiting for him to cross the catwalk into the theater. The music was playing for him to go on stage. He didn’t care he still talked to us fans. A very warm personality. I’ll never forget that. Rip Waylon. It was the Holiday Star Theater in Merrillville, IN.
Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, my first exposure to country music was on Hee Haw... I fell in love with all the people on that show, not just because they were so happy, but, as a child, I could sense their genuine love, respect, & sincerity for one another...
My first experience with Waylon was his narration on The Dukes Of Hazzard...
One of a kind man with a one of a kind voice!
RIP, Mr. Jennings 🙏
I saw an interview with Waylon where he was asked about Garth. Waylon said " I'll say one thing. He has brought a younger crowd to country music. Waylon said what he thought, like it or not. He wrote Bob Wills is still the King because he thought Willy was getting a big head. The difference in the two is one had a degree in marketing and one had a degree from the school of hard knocks.
Willie is a great songwriter but something my grandfather always said: “a real country western singer don’t wear tennis shoes!”
@@woodpit420, Waylon always made fun of Willie's style. He use to say that Willie was hard to sing with, because he never stayed in tune or in time.
Waylon all day everyday. ❤
Garth Brooks was the beginning of the end for country music .
Im in my early 20s and grew up in the south. Garths music is what initially made me hate country music. As I got older and listened to Waylon, Johnny, George, and Merle it became my favorite genre.
Waylon's telecaster playing with phaser was magical. Waylon was one of the first outlaws, he did real cocaine, and sounded how he looked.
Waylon, Willy, Tompall Glaser and Jessie Colter!!!!!! The four artists on the original Outlaws album.
I’m also strongly in the Waylon camp on this, but the fact that he “did real cocaine” ads absolutely nothing to the argument. Even legends did stupid things, and that doesn’t automatically make them more authentic. It’s really all about the music, not the lifestyle. Garth’s music sounds phony from the very first note, while Waylon’s sounds like the real deal.
Waylon knew a fake when he saw one.
Waylon is like a fine Bourbon, Barf Brooks is Bud light. One aged fine and is still wanted, the other has just gone away
“Three Chords and the Truth” is a book that has a lot to say about Garth and how he handled the business. Waylon Jennings was right. Waylon said what needed to be said. He’s the music LEGEND.
Waylon is the gold standard for me in Country Music (or music rooted in Country, but influenced by multiple genres). He was an underrated guitarist with an absolutely original sound, and most importantly he had one of the greatest voices to ever grace a Country album. He could also walk out, pick up his guitar, start performing and simply own that stage. He was that good. But his talent was restrained by RCA and the "Nashville Sound" for years. When he got the contract he wanted and the creative control, he struck when the iron was hot, making music that was perfect for the younger audiences thirsting for music that was honest and raw. The "Outlaw" label was coined, and RCA milked it for all it was worth. By the time Garth came around Country had become more homogeneous again. Garth found huge success with a mainstream sound and big stage productions that Waylon found insincere. It was as much about the show as the music. Waylon wasn't one to hide his opinions, but that's okay. Garth has been gentlemanly about it. I truly believe that Waylon would be an independent artist today, not relying on a major label to market his music. He played by his own rules, and made incredible music. That's as real as it gets.
spot on best comment on here
It's funny. David Allan Coe claims he coined the term "Outlaw", but then again you can't believe half of what that guy says lol.
@@jonnydoe85 right on brother! DAC also claims Johnny Cash got him out of prison when he never was in prison. He also claims he was from Dallas Texas. Wrong he was from Aakron Ohio.
Garth started nothing revolutionary. Waylon is one of the fathers of outlaw music. Garth can’t be compared to the Legend.
Grew up in the 80s and loved Waylon narrating the dukes of hazard and making guest appearances.
One is a phony
One is the REAL DEAL
🤔 I don’t even have to say anything else.
Who do I still listen to, Waylon.

Garth's new lyrics-
🎵 Bud's got cans with ugly faces

My rant about Garth. I grew up on Waylon music and love his music. I was a relatively young man when Garth came out nationally, and saw first hand he was nothing but a "Rexall Ranger" (what we called a drugstore cowboy). In the 90's I happened to live in the Metroplex in Texas (D/FW). So they start advertising that Garth is coming to Dallas for one show only at Cowboy Stadium and give the date. So tickets go on sale the concert sells out in less than 30 minutes. Garth who had played in a house band and in the 80's in Dallas, (Cowboy's on Gaston Road) holds a press conference on Monday after the tickets for his show sells out, wipes his eyes and says "Dallas I love you, and since my show sold out so fast and I'd never want my hard working fans to have to pay a scalper any money just to see me perform live I'm going to put on another show for you". Tickets for that show goes on sell Saturday. So this is two shows of the one time only performance. That show sells out in 45 minutes. So Monday another press conference. Same thing as Garth wipes away his crocodile tears he says "I don't want scapers to make a dime off me and I do want anybody who likes my music to get to see me perform to do so, So we are going to give you another show". So this is three shows on what they told us was one show only. This shows tickets goes on sale Saturday. That show sold out in less than one hour. That Monday same thing at the press conference. As he wipes away his tears "I don't want any scalper to make a dime off my music for my hard working fans, so since you obviously love me and my music, I'm going to give you a free concert for Sunday night, just show up bring your family and enjoy my music". So what was a one time only is now 4 shows with one free. How this turned out was the 3 shows on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday was a taped concert show on NBC in the fall of that year, the free Sunday show was for the close ups. So as a country music fan I felt cheated and used by Garth Brooks and spent my hard earned money on George Strait!
Waylon is real country and that will always be Garth not worth talking about
Wayon was bigger than life. His music was honest and groundbreaking. I think Brooks was the beginning of the end of traditional country. I prefer the guy who plays the guitar and sings the truth about life as opposed to a show off who makes an ass out of himself in order to sell tickets. Waylon has always been a hero of mine...always will be.
I guess Waylon saw through the BS that Garth was about and was telling us all the true.
Garth is basically the Al Gore of country and western music.
Waylon 100%
Waylon gets my vote
Chris Gaines is who Garth really wanted to be.
Country music genre just paid his bills.
Waylon knew there was no country in him.
Waylon said that he didn't really blame the new country artists. They want to be rich and famous, so they sing the style that the producers tell them to sing. They sing what sounds popular at that time. Waylon sang what WAYLON wanted to sing. He didn't give a damn what was popular.
Waylon was nominated into the Country Music Hall of fame and he refused to go and accept the award. He sent his son to get it. He said that stuff means more to my kids than it does to me. Waylon was a true outlaw and will always be a LEGEND.
Reminds me of how when the Sex Pistols were inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame and I was listening to Steve Jone’s radio broadcast and he had his old bandmate Jonny Lydon aka Jonny Rotten in the studio with him and they told the hall of shame to eff off and of course didn’t make it to their own induction.
Garth Brooks is GMA and Today show country, Waylon is dancehall, beer joint country.
I'll never go against Waylon

Waylon is the superior sound and Talent, a true Legend in the industry with a voice that could touch peoples Soul. His Guitar Skills were just as impressive.
Country started to go down the drain around the time Barf came onto the scene and sunk even deeper when Shania Twain came along.
It's definitely 2 different times in country. I'm a rock fan first and foremost but so.e of the 90's country was ok. I've always said Shania's music was really good, but it wasn't country just because it had a fiddle or a banjo in the song. I' m sure there was people wo didn't like Waylon's music when he was popular. But the outlaw music had its movement too. I say let people enjoy the music and not worry about what other people think.
Amen Sandman. I've always felt the same way when Garth & Shania came onto the Country Music scene.
I'm not a "country" fan but Waylon (an outlaw) was a favorite of mine. Garth however....I never "got" what people saw in him. I wouldn't listen to anything he did. I think it is correct to call him "pop country".
waylon appeals to rock fans as well...oddly enough; well not so, if you think about it? waylon/black sabbath have been my favorites since i was about 7 years old. you are right - "pop country," regarding garth.
Garth Brooks - "This really hurt me - I'm crying all the way to the bank" 🤣
I was a kid in the 80s. Mom and Dad played Waylon all the time. Thanks Mom and Dad, I miss you!
I vaguely remember watching Garp “ perform “ on TV long ago. I watched for about thirty seconds
and asked somebody at the bar if he was a comedian or some wise-ass impersonator making fun
of country music. The high-pitched twangy holler, the pyrotechnics, whirling floodlights, and head-
set microphone, it looked so ridiculous it’s got to be a joke. I felt the same way the first time I saw
KISS. Clown makeup, Superhero Halloween costumes, Alien Stormtrooper boots. Pass the Pepto!
I grew up to 70’s & 80’s country because that’s what my parents listened to. But in 86 i jumped over to 80’s rock/pop. That’s what i listened to mostly till August of 1990. Then I heard Blame It all on my roots and I was hooked on country through out 90’s up till about 10 years ago. I can’t listen to anything on the radio today. It’s all 💩 So thankfully I got my own 80’s-90’s country playlist. It includes everyone from Waylon to King George to Garth to no name artists of the 90’s that I liked. Waylon would definitely be disappointed with country music of today without a doubt
Didn't you quite understand, clownboy? Waylon didn't like Garth, and neither do we. Comprende,El Segundo?
I can’t imagine where or why Waylon would care about Girth one way or the other
Waylon is iconic Country Music. garth is "country music" and honestly a one hit wonder. People will know who Waylon Jennings is 200 years from now. Most country music fans 50 years from now won't know who garth is.
To even compare them two is a slap to Waylon's face .. Garth stole his whole show from Chris Leudex .. A real cowboy
By your logic, then whoever started the traditional a lot of singers stole it too
That's true but c'mon Garth Brooks is awful 😂
@Ghost Rider can't be too awful. The guy has 3 albums in the top 5 sells, and the guy has sold more albums in the US than anyone other than the Beatles, I guess if you consider that awful, sure lol
Yea cuz Karen's everywhere loves him he married one ol Trisha Yearwood.. Had a lesbian bass player he was woke before Rose McGowan was born 😂
@Ghost Rider the bass player, was his step sister, but she was a lesbian? I honestly didn't know that, but she passed away.
the sound of Garths voice make me cry , not into country music but my mother loved this man, and yes this 48 yr old still cries over his mother a decade later, Rip mom
Ain't nothing wrong with loving your momma.
I knew Waylon in the late '80's. I had an hour long conversation with Garth in '96. Garth was an advertising (marketing) major in college.. Waylon was a real HOSS & could always call it.
Buddy of mine had a decal on one of his guitars that pretty well summed it up, "Garth killed country"
Maybe 2 of garths songs once every 5 years. All of Waylons everyday.
Waylon sang how he lived, Garth is just an entertainer for the people.....Waylon wasn't considered country (hence the whole outlaw movement) back in the day....Love Waylon and some Garth.....either is better than today's "country" music! Waylon, Willie, Merle, George, Johnny Cash was real country music!
Indeed. What's wrong with Country/Pop music anyway?
Garth Brooks doesn’t deserve to be in a fued with a legend like Waylon.
I’m a Waylon fan I wouldn’t walk across the street to see Garth if it were free
They’re both great but Waylon took the hit and paved the road for Artists like Garth and many others to do the music they wanted to. Waylon may have not had the most #1’s blah blah blah but that’s because he didn’t do what Music executives wanted him to do. Because of that Waylon is the GOAT in my opionion.
Garth Brooks candidly admitted that he grew up on the music of Boston and Kiss, so he figured why not make country music as big on the stage as rock music. Brooks’ music has ventured far into the rock and pop genres with his huge stage productions and special effects (you can see him floating above the audience suspended from wires while he’s singing “Ain’t Going Down Until The Sun Comes Up”). That being said, all Waylon Jennings had to do was to walk on the stage, Fender Telecaster in hand, and he owned it. And when Waymore sang, that was pure country coming out of his throat. Now don’t get me wrong, I like Garth Brooks’ music for what it is, a blending of country, pop, and rock. But I’ll take Waylon’s music any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
In Garths "last" concert from Vegas he said how Jones' music wanted him to drink and Haggard to be on jail or something similar. He continued. But Simon and Garfunkel that was music. Then he should have entered rock and left country music alone.
Thomas I actually stumbled into a Garth Brooks concert. It was in Queens NYC in a bandshell in a place called Forest Park. It was about 6 months or a year before he hit big. While it's possible he played some country I remember him definitely playing early 60s rock. Pretty sure he did an early Stones song.
Brooks is renowned for lip syncing in concert. That's how he can do all the things he does "live"
It saddens me to read some of these comments about Garth. Someone commented that Waylon was a musical genius, and I agree. But so is Garth. As a solo acoustic performer myself, I love singing and playing both Waylon and Garth's songs. They are more alike than a lot might give them credit for. Both artists songs are masterfully created lyrically, and expertly paired to the perfect melody every time, song after song. They are both legends, and truly deserve to be. May their music live on forever.
Wow! That quote from Jennings about Brooks pretty much sums it up.
Gosh, what would Waylon think NOW, 21 years after his Death, with all the Collaborations in Pop Country and Pop Music? Can't have a Country Music Awards without having Pop Music Stars singing with the Pop Country Stars to get through their Awards Shows! Are the Power Brokers in Music trying to get ALL MUSIC STARS to Operate out of and live close to Nashville? Waylon is correct as far as this music out of Nashville today and even 25 years ago, is not the Country Music that Others and He, wrote and sang, back in the day! But, in defense of all the collaborations today, Dolly laughs all the Way to The Bank!
He'd hate that his own step grandkid is using his name and singing country rap.
💯
Not to mention two f@gs kissing on stage at awards shows. All Country Music cares about is Leftist Culture Rot now. It died when Johnny and Waylon died. 90's Country Music sucked, it was the pop era. Late 70's early 80's was were the prime Country hits.
His head wouldve exploded over Taylor Swift and the other twerky hunching """country,""" poptarts out there today calling themselves country...
Yeah, Dolly backs the LGBTLMNOP group too. Don't care for her much anymore.
Waylon Jennings a true legend!❤️❤️
The fact Waylon had issues with garth, says a lot!
Brooks is a fucked up Liberal. Waylon just figured it out before a lot of us did.
I have always been and always will be a Waylon fan. That said, I jumped on the Garth bandwagon when it came along as well... and I am still a big fan... heck, I'm even a Chris Gaines fan! I think there's room for both... at least in my playlist.
Waylon has always been my hero . RIP Waylon you are missed and still loved.
Waylon is a legend, pioneered the outlaw movement. Garth was responsible for destroying real country music.....look at what they're calling country music today.
I worked for a trucking company that hauled Garth's equipment. One driver begged me to go to the central park concert for him but i passed. I asked several of the drivers if they got to talk to Garth? They all said no they couldn't even look at him. Waylon is a legend Garth is a pop star but i am sure his fans adore him.
I agree w Sir Waylon...
@P Jj that's cool, though do you really think that music of any kind, should stay stagnant not change as time changes? I'm not saying you have to like it, just that life changes and we find a way not to let a person's inflexibility get in the way of another? I think change or something or someone new might bring out a fear of_____fill in the blank, part of human nature. The angrier someone gets, yeah it's something personal. I'll end with from a kid we had good music in my home ~ no country, until I got older and love all the female singers, Patsy, ::sigh:: I hope to get out and do some busking, sing songs I love and just deal with anxiety that's part of my makeup - no more finding it in the glass or bottle. 😉~take care ~
Waylon is the TRUE LEGEND !!!!!
I’m a metal kinda guy from the 80’s and calling Garth country is like calling Poison metal, both radio diatribe manufacturered pop music for the ignorant masses. Waylon is the Legend and his son is doing him justice, I’ve seen Shooter twice and he didn’t disappoint🤘🏻
Garth wants to be all things to everybody. Waylon knew who his people were and loved being a part of them.
Waylon Jennings is far and away my favourite country star of all time, followed closely by Merle Haggard. I had the privilege of seeing The Hag and Garth Brooks (twice), but unfortunately not Waylon. I had tickets to the tour he and Travis Tritt were set to do before Waylon fell ill and passed away. I’ve always been sad about that.
All this being said, as much as I love Waylon, and he’ll always be my favourite forever, there is more than enough room in country music history to appreciate and enjoy both men’s music.
I was sort of taken aback by Waylon’s crankiness about Garth Brooks, being Waylon had originally been a rock n’ roller himself, and he’d been a lot different with his sound and image than the rest of Nashville when he broke big, so you would think he might have understood the situation Garth was in. Garth certainly didn’t have the same road to travel in many ways (which was paved by Waylon and the other Outlaws), but he was on the periphery at one time as well. Waylon was reportedly quite cranky in general in his later years (as related by Willie Nelson), but being the legend he was, he could act however the hell he wanted.
In the end, Waylon will ALWAYS be THE MAN. Garth is majorly successful and is a legend in his own right, but I feel like he gets a bad rap about being at the forefront of that new wave of country in the early 90’s, and it’s undeserved, in my opinion. I will also say that Garth Brooks puts on an AMAZING show, and it’s SO good that Garth Brooks kind of ruins you in terms of concerts, because he set the bar so high.
To end this lengthy post (lol), I’d just say it’s ok to be a fan of both, and each man brings something to the table that helps to make country music even better. Much respect for both gentlemen.
A. Garth Brooks wouldn't make a pimple on Waylons a--! B. Garth ain't no legend. C. I wouldn't go see Garth if they were giving out hundred dollar bills.
Hell, Garth never claimed to be outlaw country. Comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. People love a good celebrity feud though. I've also heard that you should never meet your heroes. It sure seems like that's true.
Garth who?
Loved Waylon! I wish we still had country music today.
I have never liked Garth. Never got a good feeling about him. But Waylon is a legend. And yes, Waylon was a musical genius and he was such a kind soul. I listen to his music to this day. Every night I listen to his favorite song, “ Dreaming, my dreams.”I know he’s in heaven with Johnny, Hank and George Jones. Waylon is greatly missed.. ❤️🙏
Waylon
Waylon Jennings name and his music speak for itself. Garth Brooks name and his music speak for itself. Through his entire career and life Waylon never gave a damn what folks in LA and New York and DC thought. Garth has spent the last 30 years doing what he has to to not piss off LA and New York and DC. Anybody that would agree to be a part of the entertainment at Joe Bidens supposed inauguration is an enemy to anything that remotely resembles authenticity
Waylon is a true legend….Garth who?
I will give Garth Brooks Credit he brought a lot of people to country music
Garth called anyone boycotting Bud Light A-Holes. That is what he thinks of his fans.
Waylon struggled and helped create country music. Garth had it easy, someone picked him up and then cast him out. Waylon's name is forever, Garth will not be. Most new stars are that way... easy come to them.
