The one thing i love about throw breaks in Tekken is that it doesn't usually makes both fighters return into neutral, some throws leave the attacker in disadvantage and some switches the fighter's side, making it also impact the flow of the fight and leaving players often have to think about going for a throw or not.
Tekken really does give more love to throw break animations than any other fighting game I know. Most other fighting games have a universal or 1 throw break animation for each type of throw. And the animations often don't make sense and are meant to be visually distinct. Tekken throw breaks look realistic and fluid, to the point I didn't even realize what was going on at first, simply because I was used to games making very obvious there was a throw break. And, most of all, Tekken throws have CHARACTER.
I'm hoping this carries on to Tekken 8 cause I have heard that they won't be reusing the old models which would mean it'll take more time to do which leaves things like this on the side.
I think it's not just the the throw animations, the animation in Tekken is really well done in general. I remember I've watched a video where they compared the animations in Tekken and Mortal Combat, the difference was pretty clear
Alisa's has always been my favorite. Each character is in the middle of a decisive battle, but they'll make sure Alisa's head is on securely before continuing. Why chuck it at the nearest wall? Genius.
@Ionas I don't even play Alisa. I find it more embarrassing that you can't read a simple sentence than the off-chance that I actually played a cringe-y character.
Yes and later in TT2 almost all female characters could do that throw if you equip a certain head-item (not sure how it's called in English but it's the one with roses and lace) 🌹💮
I wish you would have shown the throw break for Marduk’s tackle. Normal characters just sway away from it. But if you play the grapplers: Armor King, King and Dragunov too I think, they will actually defend the takedown by sprawling giving them a unique throw break animation for it. That is realistic with freestyle wrestling and Sambo. That’s what I love about this Tekken, there are little details that make it real to people of all martial arts. For me as a freestyle wrestler this detail is so damn cool. The devs know their martial arts and fighting styles.

That Julia animation is the grab from T6 Lili's headdress. When Lili had the headdress equipped, you could do a special grab during which Lili would handstand over the opponent's shoulders flipping over to their back and then she would knock them in their back with her butt doing that kind of taunt animation waving her hand while flexing her butt at them. This item, and the grab with it, was made generic for all females (yes all females, including Panda, but not Roger Jr. for some reason, lol) in TTT2. I don't know the command for T6 Lili's headdress throw, but the command for the female headdress throw in TTT2 was d+1+2+3. 0:38 used to be lili’s throw in T6 activated only with a special item. Her throw is similar to her punch counter where she swings herself above the enemy and slams them to the ground but instead she hits them with her butt xD
1:34 So playing Dragunov I've gotten the arm bar reversal a few times (I hit 1+2 then mash 2 as fast as I can, you may be able to do it just by mashing 1+2), but what's neat is that it can happen if Drag's tackle is reversed, they go for the arm bar then you reverse it into your own armbar. It looks like some crazy high level grappling, but unfortunately it does absolutely shit damage haha.
Never knew you could escape from a rear tackle. Also, you could probably make an entire video from King's throw escapes. He's got a few oddball ones, like his Figure-4 which the opponent can reverse after you execute it. Or his Frankensteiner that Paul can turn into a Power Bomb.
this actually applies to many airborne moves that are parried specifically by a male character that has a reversal which works on airborne attacks, Heihachi could do it too with b2+3. this game is so specific sometimes
It’s wild how many of these throw breaks utilize the character’s own fighting style against them. Jin did wrestling, TKD, and Judo against King, Hwarong, and Paul, respectively. Not to mention the Heihachi headbutt reversal, lol.
There is also a funny throw break / reversal when King uses the Grab: Four Figure Leg Lock. If done correctly, the enemy will roll to the other side and perform a leg lock while King taps his hand on the floor lol
Thats actually so sick... In pro wrestling, the figure four leglock is reversible by rolling both of you over onto the other side, as it inverts the pressure onto the user. They really thought of everything with the wrestler characters lol
Absolutely. I LOVE that they are contextual to what's going on in the throw. Not a cookie cutter animation for all throws. PLUS it gives the user time to recognize the throw and input the correct escape. It's really the best throwing mechanic in fighting games.
the litte " iiiita " short for 痛い "itai" from Alisa´s throw breaks means something like "ouch" . I really like that little note since her arms sticks to the breaking opponent and it´s her way of saying "ouch my arms"

So many moves are simply done on instinct once you press enough buttons and begin to understand how characters move. With so many characters there is always going to be one that feels like an extension of your personality or fantasy. It's really easy to get immersed in that character like it's your own body. The move Julia did is actually Lili’s from Tekken 6. It was a special throw obtained by equipping her headdress. As a Lili main, it was pretty disappointing that they didn’t continue this animation for the succeeding Tekken games..
This is such an odd thing to put this much effort and money into and it would probably be a nuisance in a competitive setting but I'm glad they still did it. The animation in Tekken games never disappoints.
I always said it, currently in the world of fighting games Tekken is the best one, the fact that it has always been a 3d game favors it a lot, seeing the things that happen to KOF and Stree Fighters (although the last one seems very good to me) it is noticeable that Tekken takes advantage of always having done things in 3d, which is what is popular now
Yes it does, that's why pros sometimes go for certain throws even if they know they will probably get broken, because even if they break them you can get a side switch and put your opponent at the wall.
Tekken is one of the only fighting games that cares about the actual fighting element. I don't remember which one it was because I was a casual player when I was a kid, but when I ran into my cousin's character and tackled him, I was mind blown that you could ground and pound. Never experienced something so unique in a game until Fortnite with its building mechanic (please don't flame, lol)
Ill never forget when I did Kings Frankesteiner and my brother countered it with Paul... He powerbomb me! Ive been playing from Tekken 1 and still havent seen all the counter and throw break animations
I've always loved how they give them true fluidity. Overall I'm loving SF6 so far but throw breaks look really bad in it, hopefully they change it up to something a bit more believable than static movement backwards.
I disagree. With how throw techs are meant to reset to neutral and the fact that throws are unreactable, having Tekken style break animations are a waste of time (they take too long) and unreasonable to expect. Also most throw break animations are closer to SSF2 throw techs since you're already in the process of getting thrown. Current throw tech animations stop the throw entirely, which makes more sense.
Bothers the shit out of me that this comment is so far down. I'm straight removing the video from my watch history and removing the channel from recommendations for this.
Did anyone notice how the term, "throw" has a very different meaning in the context of fighting video games than in the real martial arts? What fighting games call a "throw" would be considered a "grappling attack" in the martial arts. I think it is rooted in Street Fighter 2, where most of the grappling attacks were throws. Most, but not all. E. Honda's clinch + knee strike was a grappling attack, but not a "throw" (within the context of real martial arts). I think that after SF 2, all grappling attacks in fighting games were generally called, "throws". The term has stuck. And what they call a "throw break" would be called an "escape" or "grappling escape" in the real martial arts. If one BJJ student attacks his opponent with a triangle choke and that opponent frees himself from it, that would be considered an "escape", not a "throw break". Video game throw = grappling attack Video game throw break = grappling escape
Yeah, but "grappling attack" has 3 more syllables than "throw" so throw it is. Imagine a commentator trying to say that mouthful during a fast-paced match

I appreciate the extra effort this must have taken. Everyone has a unique start up animation. Most fighting games just have the same animation
Should have shown Lei breaking Chloe's grab
I love how Kazuma has the
GET OFF ME
Vibe to him
This only shows that Jin is untouchable and you see why he's not a world leader but THE world leader
The throw with Julia/Xiaoyu is from Tekken 6 - it’s an item move with a headband that Lili can equip via customisation (:
Good job for making this video!
Tekken is & has been one of, if not the, best fighting games since I was a child. They consistently put out quality in my opinion.
best throw breaks, best motion capture, best fight animations . Best fighting gameplay… BEST FIGHTING GAME
Slow ya roll there lol
it’s nothing but facts
Nice! If there’s ever a second part, maybe kings instant shining wizard?
Its just awesome how fluidly it goes right back to combat. I wish more games did this
I always said it, currently in the world of fighting games Tekken is the best one, the fact that it has always been a 3d game favors it a lot, seeing the things that happen to KOF and Stree Fighters (although the last one seems very good to me) it is noticeable that Tekken takes advantage of always having done things in 3d, which is what is popular now
Not a Namco player but doesn’t that effect the meta when some techs can get you out the corner, or some can even put you in the corner
Yes it does, that's why pros sometimes go for certain throws even if they know they will probably get broken, because even if they break them you can get a side switch and put your opponent at the wall.
Just when i forgot how awesome and rich those animations are youtube reminds me with vídeos like this
Incredibly, that Eddy Gordo throw escape animation has been there since Tekken 3.
Who’s at 1:22 the girl
Found out it’s master raven
0:40 that's from Tekken 5
Mortal Kombat: *agressively* hugs, other character, pushes back
I remember that I spent many hours in my childhood in fighting games. I really loved it.
why tf did josie cry after throw breaking
Seriously, same when she wins and cries. I miss Bruce...
"Filipino" stereotyping
It's the reason I hate her so much... cry baby shouldn't be a character trait.......
Cause she got her elbow dislocated bruh
Didn't you see Anna get in 2 hits?
@@VeylmanTheRock bruh....................... no one else cries like her when their arms are broken.... and she cries without her arm getting broken...
I loved Paul's throw so much while he's fighting male charscters, like tf2 tick tock ♥️🔥🔥🔥🥵🔥🔥
Touch a 🦗 omit a hopper.
@@stellarkym Yes I like it a lot, buff men and bearded men are ma fav, am gae
@@videoplayback_ Same here, I agree lol
@@videoplayback_ being gay is cool, liking Paul is not. That man is ugly asf.

The amount and quality of Tekken animations is astonishing.
LOLOLOLOLOL, @0:17 her arm breaks off!
Yeah it happens during one of her attacks her arm breaks off and then just comes back like nothing happened
1:05 *SHE MADE JOSIE CRY!* *GET HER!*
2:00 The straight up bear really caught me off guard lmao
0:39 Is from Lili’s Throw Tekken 6, you need a specific Item of Lili to do it 😊

THANK YOU! 😊
Tekken is so bad ass
Honestly, feels like a coordinated dance which is so cool!
it's amazing to see that some of these throw animations are as old as tekken 2
Good video but that clickbait thumbnail is pretty lame.
Bothers the shit out of me that this comment is so far down. I'm straight removing the video from my watch history and removing the channel from recommendations for this.
Those are some fluid animations!
That is oddly nice of Jin to give Alesa her head back
Did anyone notice how the term, "throw" has a very different meaning in the context of fighting video games than in the real martial arts?
Video game throw = grappling attack
Video game throw break = grappling escape
Some of these are also sweeps.
Yeah, but "grappling attack" has 3 more syllables than "throw" so throw it is. Imagine a commentator trying to say that mouthful during a fast-paced match
What happened at 0:25 lol
When you input the stonehead throw with a different input as long as you're a male character and time it right you can headbutt heihachi back
Title never lied.
One thing i truly loved about this franchise above all others.
Ngl, breaking King’s shining wizard (the running grab where he knocks your ass out with a knee) is a great looking dodge
The grappling animations look sick with king
Tekken, Ehrgeiz, Fighter's Destiny, Tobal and Virtua fighter has some awesome Throwbreak Animations. I love it.
I Especially Love Ehrgeiz because there's a quick Visual Cue that lets you know when to Tech.
Don't forget about the Virtua Fighter series's throw breaks! Those are excellent as well.
I love how some of them are legitimate reversals, but some of them are just "instead of standing here while you do something incredibly painful to me, how about I just duck slightly?"
When Lei breaks Lucky Chloe's 1 grab, he dances with her
I love the fact that Jin just yoinks Alisa's head back on
