Hey Leah, I’m a skin doctor/beauty therapist and what I would 100% recommend for your skin would be applying a retinol at night before you go to bed. Retinol is a anti bacterial so all the bacteria in your skin causes breakouts regardless of you cleansing your skin so if your skin is acne prone I would suggest investing in a retinol serum preferably a level 3 and which isn’t as harsh on the skin. Also do be cleansing twice in the morning and twice at night, this is important because the first cleanse gets everything from the surface of your skin off and the second cleanse gets everything in your dermis and pores out of your skin, preventing the breakouts after having heavy makeup or light makeup on.

omgg hearing you talk about acne was so refreshing!! i’m the same way i’ve been struggling with with acne since 2020 (mine is mainly hormonal) and it’s progressively got worse since 2022 I tried everything under the sun from fancy skin care to facials to diet changes now i’m on a medication called spironolactone and it’s done absolutely wondersss for my hormonal acne! As far as skincare the simpler the better i literally use a face wash and moisturizer and that’s it and try and stay away from fragranced skin care/ makeup products

Leahhhhh I’m an esthetician and I’d recommend you implement a BHA (the Paula’s Choice 2% Liquid is my holy grail of 10 years) and their 1% retinol is amazing but it’s probably gonna be a little strong for a beginner so I’d recommend their Intensive Repair Cream with Retinol or the Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol to build up to that! ✨

I had so much acne until like two months ago, i started using cerave foaming cleanser every night, first I wash my face and then I wash with the cleanser, and in the mornings I wash my face and apply la roche posay sunscreen (50+spf), and only with those 2 products my skin cleared up!

hey Leah, I used to have the same exact problem with my skin. It was 100% due to my diet, hormones, and fragrance. I used to order food instead of cooking for myself almost every meal and not only was it a waste of money but also I had no idea that most places don’t use the best oils to cook food (they usually use vegetable oil which is cheap but is inflammatory). I ended up going to a nutritionist and they helped me change my diet but it was just NOT yummy (I am also a picky eater). It wasn’t until I ended up meeting my current partner (he’s very knowledgeable about nutrition and he used to be a chef) that I finally tasted healthy food that is also so yummy. Now I get excited trying new recipes that provide me with the right nutrition throughout the day. I also limit my (added) sugars a lot more now because it’s a huge trigger for my acne, it has a really high glycemic index and if your skin is sensitive it could cause acne. One other thing I did is check for fragrances in my skincare, I recently went to an aesthetician who recommended medical grade skincare that doesn’t have any fragrance and it really helped as well. My skin feels so much smoother and healthier now! I know it can be so frustrating to deal with so if anyone reading this needs any more advice let me know, I’m not a professional obviously but this is just what helped me! Love you Leah.

I used to have spot prone skin and hormonal acne and when I ran out of options to try and help my skin that’s when I started researching ingredients in products and then figured out why my skin might be screaming at me. The majority of mainstream brands use ingredients like dehydrogenated alcohol (which will dry your skin out), Disodium ETA/EDA (which is a carcinogen), paraffin liquidium (a buy product of petrol), fragrance/parfum (which can dry your skin out because it’s not an organic fragrance) and there is so much more. So I literally switched to organic skin care finding brands like MooGoo, Evolve, Sukin & Antipodes and my skin thanked me. It’s been at its best for over 2 years now and I wouldn’t go back. Sometimes the problem is right in front of your eyes you just don’t realise it.

Honestly your not gonna like this one, but my skin improved majorly after I stopped wearing makeup on the areas I break out in (my cheeks). I also change my pillowcase every single night and use skin controls pimple patches (am and pm).

It is possible that you were destroying your skins natural barrier to protect it from things that would cause acne, you really only need a good cleanser and a sunscreen to protect your skin during the day, I don’t even do moisturizer because sunscreen is a lotion. When you feel like your skin is in a good spot you can adding in toners and serums and stuff. This really worked for me. If I get a break out I put salicylic acid just on the break out or a pimple patch.
