To me this is a perfect example of why your soundtrack works so well. The one in-game for Dank Depths is ok; it's ominous and does a good job of setting the mood. But it does very little in terms of a melody that builds up in any meaningful way, let alone have a climax. After a while, I stopped noticing many tracks in vanilla Isaac. And a good chunk of its soundtrack is not the kind I even consider having in the background when I want to listen to music. But this? This (and the entirety of Antibirth's soundtrack) is a treat to listen to.
Edmund only wanted his music to fit into Isaac, and that came at the expense of it sounding memorable and good. Like some of the base rebirth tracks, like depths and womb, are barely even music at all, they fit sure, but they just become white noise after a while. Mudeth made the right choice in choosing sound quality rather than how well it fits, which in my opinion it still does.
