Four months into dating my husband I asked him what his intentions were. I was 23 and he was 28. And I was willing to walk away if his intentions weren’t marriage. We spoke. Six months later he asked me to marry him and we have been married 39 years. He is a spectacular husband and father and I couldn’t ask for more.

Exactly. Too many women waste their youth waiting around on a man to decide if "he " wants to get married. There is a timeline and expiration date on everything. If you're dating someone and there's no conversation about taking things to the next level after 6 months, keep it movin. This poor lady was basically hanging around for 12 years for nothing, probably could've met a man when she was younger and gotten married to someone else, sad.

I used to work with a girl, her boyfriend didn’t respect her, treated her like a doormat, he had a bad temper, screamed at her, she was my kids age and she asked my advice what should she do, because he promised her marriage and he keeps making excuses, I told her to leave him, for one the way he treats her. I told her she will find the right guy and she did, he’s a teacher and she is a teacher assistant, god fearing man and she’s a real nice girl, they got married after 8 months.

That's what I did. I told my (then) boyfriend "if we are not engaged in one year from now, I'm moving out of this town." I had moved TO the town for school, met him, and didn't like the town or the school, but I loved HIM. 1 year later we were married. We've been married 13 years now, and will always be.

I am in a new dating relationship with a chivalrous man. He makes sure I am not walking close to the street, opening car doors, building doors, always having me enter first, etc… and I make sure to acknowledge this. A soft stroke of my hand against his cheek, a sugar smack on the lips, a smile, a wink, a squeeze of his hand, a blown kiss or I tell him how sweet he is. It is so simple to express gratitude to him for who he is and how he treats me. After a few toads, I think I’ve finally found my Prince. Ladies, if you have a gem like this, please express your appreciation. For the ladies still looking; don’t give up, chivalry is not dead, but it is a rare gem. He and I are both 63 yrs old, but we act like teenagers. And for the younger ladies with kids at home, it’s never too late to teach your sons this gift, and never too late to teach your daughters to expect it and appreciate it.
6 months is not a long time. Get to know a person, go through some cycles(holidays, birthdays, etc.) and get to know a person. Quit going to celebrities for advice on life.

My sister waited longer than that. They dated for 14 years before he finally asked her to marry him. In my book, no man is worth waiting that long for. But they had a really good marriage for over 40 years until she passed a year ago.
