    Excellent points. I have always loved Amityville 2. It is my favorite of the series. It is a film that makes you feel dirty but it is one that you cannot stop watching once you start. You are correct that no one speaks about this film and it always surprises me because it is really good in a very sleazy way. The shot of the demon stalking Sonny has always stuck out to me. It's so well done. I had the honor of meeting Diane Franklin who played the sister, Patricia, last year and she signed my copy of the film. Still gorgeous and very sweet

    Totally agree with you! I recall seeing the first film with my parents when I was younger as it was a fairly palatable hollywood ghost ride of a film. However when I watched this sequel on VHS alone at home a few years later I was genuinely shocked and scared - it's definitely the best in the series and is just a great horror film generally. Great effects, acting and a really grim atmosphere which I found really oppressive. Need to watch it again now!

    Perfect review.
    This has always been in my top 5 scariest and most underrated films of all time.
    Deeply chilling and filmed with a spectacularly sinister vibe.
    A horror masterpiece.

      Thanks for the kind words Dickie. It's always a pleasure to meet someone who's a fan of this great movie. I agree it's extremely underrated and really should appear on lists of superior sequels as well as lists of great horror movies.

    Your review of this film is one of the VERY BEST film reviews I have EVER heard! I laughed my ass off, but not only that, you were SPOT ON with the entire film! It IS a filth-filled film, and I felt like a shower after seeing it, but OH! I LOVE IT! This film is in my "go-to" group. I am SO HAPPY I ran across your videos, as I am subscribing now! I bet we love and have seen most of the same films, and I love each review of yours I have heard thus far! Keep on reviewing and NEVER hold back. If it is utter shit, call it utter shit! LMAO! Can't wait to listen to the next one! A FAN, JEREMY

      Welcome aboard Jeremy! For my thoughts on the stinkers you might want to check out - off the top of my head - my videos for Amityville 3, and an assortment of 'Wrong Turn' and 'Howling' sequels (can't remember which ones specifically, but I can still remember that some of them took me to the edge). I'm very glad you're enjoying my nonsense and thank you for your kind words :)

    Choice review, mate ! Gloriously sleezy, so well said ! My favorite lines are:
    Patricia: My panties
    Sonny: I got them from the laundry
    Father Adamsky: Please, don't strike that child.
    Anthony Montelli: Look Mr this is done of your business...Now you do what you gotta do then go !
    Possessed Patricia: Dirty priest you wanted it ! Then the tongue action. Ha ha ha ha ha ha !!
    Those exchanges made me laugh, bro. I wish this movie would come out on Shout Factory Blue Ray. Again, awesome review, mate ! Aloha !!

    Great review.This film really does make me feel icky.
    It will probably cause me more torment than personally experiencing the “real” Amityville Horror, but I’m going to have to watch the whole series at some point. I’ve only seen the first four and I feel pretty confident that 2 is going to be the best one. But who knows? I might end up being stunned by the brilliance of The Amityville Playhouse one day and end up with egg on my face.

    It was overlooked as it came out the same time as Evil Dead, yet coincidentally the scene where he flies down from the ceiling is very evil dead style. Very underrated movie, a flawed masterpiece, flawed only in its third act.

    We are to believe this film happened before the original Amityville movie.
    In the original Amityville, the first few scenes we say the body bags of the Montelli’s.

      Problem is they are specifically labelled as the DeFeo’s in the original, and this film is clearly set in the early 80’s, so it doesn’t really work in that regard.

    Awesome review Andrew... I can't tell you enough about how this film has stayed with me over the years. I've seen it so many times I know every nook and cranny of it. I loved the graininess of the film and pretty much all of the rest you mentioned however I'm surprised you never mentioned the musical score behind it? Lalo Shiffirin just nails the score... it's masterfully composed and chilling. Do yourself a favor and quickly watch the opening scene of the movie as the camera pans from the real estate sign up the to the house, it really sets the tone of the movie. Of course the possession scene really stands out as you detailed but another interesting scene albeit just a few seconds long is when Sonny is about to kill his younger brother Mark (which is really disturbing in and of itself) , but when he raises his rifle and the lightening cracks and lights up his possessed face, you can literally feel the evil. Which is basically why this film stands out over so many for me. Just the overall cinematography, feel, and especially the musical score with the light piano and then the heavy bass cello's make this my favorite all time horror flick.

      @michaelpalermo354 5 років тому +1

      Oops, I just saw your review of the first Amityville and saw that you referenced Lalo's musical score. But I will say that I prefer the more beefed up score for part two.

    Its a dark movie that's for sure! It's more violating and unholy than 'The Exorcist' lb for lb. I mean, it rips and tears at the human heart in every way: Domestic violence, Child Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Religious Fealty/ Superstition, Incest, Schizophrenic behavior, Alcohol and Drug abuse are there just understated. The 'Demon' just kind of, ya know' Sealed the Deal' with the absolute horrifying terrorism/ psych warfare: In Sonnys tape player: 'Why don't you kill them?! ' Why don't you kill those PIGS?!'.

    • @shawnhapney8784

      Its the type of flick that; ' Blurs the Line' of insane reality/ ruthless circumstances meets a 'demon whose monopolizing upon a troubled family.' Not many films can pull off what that one did to this day.

    Yes, yes, yes andrew you have nailed it will this positive review off Amityville 2. There are 3 maybe 4 horror films of which i saw in the 80's as a child under 10(shh dont tell anyone), this is one of them. I remember staying at my grandparents with my sister, i was about 10, and i knew it was getting close to 11pm, sleeping on the sofa, with my gran and sis on the fold down bed. And yes even more uncomfortably 'wrong' with the incest vibe with my sis of 7 3 foot away! Anyway yes, i remember the domestic violence of the mother by rocky's brother-in-law very hard to watch. Think it was bbc 2 on a fri or sat night around 1988, still gives me the shivers. Other films that gave me the same feeling of unease was The company of wolves, American werewolf in london, Black christmas and even some episodes of Hammer house of horrors!!!!!

    haha nice! Love this movie! It's so fucked up! Never made the connection between possession and rape in the possession scene, really good point! Burt Young is so damn good in these. "I don't go to church so you bring it home to me:" Cheers buddy!

    Anyone today with any interest in this house, or story one way or the other should read a book that was published in the year of 2000 entitled "The Night the Defeos Died" don't offhand the authors name but is written. It's a another more different and up to date review of the Amityville house and the Defeos life and subsequent deaths. This author actually met with Butch in person. Did any of you people who are reading this know that he was married at the time and had a daughter? He is divorced now, but this book's author meet with his ex-wife as well as with his daughter, and gets testimony from both and puts all of the that testimony in his book. Aso included are actual crime scene photos. Again the book is entitled THE NIGHT THE DEFEOS DIED". check it out it's a whole up to date review of Amityville and subsequent deaths.

    I really want to read that Evil Escapes book. Do you think anything that came from the house was infested with demonic evil? Say if you stole a bag of frozen peas from the Amityville freezer, would those peas be horribly haunted?

    • @GrumpyAndrewsHorrorHouse
      @GrumpyAndrewsHorrorHouse  4 роки тому +1

      ...and would it be the whole bag, or would each individual pea be evil? And what about emptying out the dust from the vacuum cleaner? And bin collection day! Oh my God, I never thought of those collections of demonic forces being carted away on a weekly basis. That's given me a real chuckle to start the day with, thank you :)

    I liked it a lot. That camera upside down shot was amazing, we are hunting him in that shot!! I don't think the film is that shocking or trashy, maybe it's a cultural thing (I'm from Mexico and independent movies here are very raw and honest with what they are trying to say). I actually think the movie was pretty tame in not showing some things. It's a great movie to comment, lots to talk about!

    Great review, as always. Could you confirm something for me please - I want to buy a copy of this film on DVD (there are 3 possible versions, including a 'Collector's Edition'), but reviews on Amazon of the copy you have in this video say it's heavily cut (in fact its running time is given as 94 minutes, whereas according to Wikipedia the film is 104 minutes). Is that correct? Is the version you have 94 minutes? Did you notice any major cuts?

    • @GrumpyAndrewsHorrorHouse
      @GrumpyAndrewsHorrorHouse  8 років тому +1

      Hi Dave. The honest answer is I don't know. I've never watched my copy and thought there were any glaring cuts. There's some info in IMBD's FAQ section about a cut of about 8 seconds: The British theatrical version was cut by one scene, in which Anthony (Burt Young - Rocky 1-5) gets shot by his possessed son Sonny. The following VHS releases by Thorn Emi, Warner and Castle contained the same cut. The DVD by Sanctuary Visual Ent. is completely uncut.
      Also PAL (in the UK) runs faster than NTSC (in Canada and the US) but I'm not sure that would account for a difference of 10 minutes. I can't find any real reference anywhere to heavy cuts to the film and the BBFC website says the film was released uncut here in the UK, but that very site differs on runtime betwen theatrical and VHS releases of the film (from 104 to 99 minutes).
      My hunch is that the format is effecting the runtime, but you may want to do some more online investigation.

    • @davehall38
      @davehall38 8 років тому

      Thanks a lot for the info. Above all else I just wanted to be sure that toe-curlingly uncomfortable incest scene hadn't been cut :) I'll go ahead and order the Collector's Edition.

    • @dickiea8048

      Dave Hall
      The incest scene was indeed cut to ribbons from the original scene.
      There was an extended sex scene with the Brother and Sister that had to be cut at the time.
      It was deemed too much.
      I would love to see a Blu Ray special edition with all the missing footage.

    • @waqarmalik6135
      @waqarmalik6135 Рік тому

      @@dickiea8048 Yes alot of scenes been cut out. There was a rape scene. When the father rapes the mother. And the extended lost souls scene. And the family ghost scene near end of the movie. And a scene where the father is outside the garden cleaning his gun. Other scenes got deleted too ETC. I would love to see the UNCUT VERSION

    My understanding is that this film is NOT a sequel, It's a prequel!

    • @GrumpyAndrewsHorrorHouse
      @GrumpyAndrewsHorrorHouse  4 роки тому

      Ooh, kinda, sorta. It's up for debate. The events are loosely adapted from the real life murder of the DeFeo family who lived at the house irl BEFORE the Lutz family from the first film moved in. However, the film has a walkman in it which places it AFTER the events of the first film. You're more right than wrong, I think, but it's a fun game to play. Thanks for watching :)

    • @rockyl9120
      @rockyl9120 3 роки тому

      Grumpy Andrew's Horror House it’s definitely a prequel. The dvd box even says it tells the ‘true’ story of the ‘Monteli’s’ who arrive in the Amityville house 2 years before the Lutz’s of the first film. I remember from watching it as a child it was always meant to be a prequel. Great review by the way, it is a very disturbing movie!
