My grandson took a shortcut on his bike in the wilderness of Bavaria in the dark. He brilliantly described the fear and horror he felt. Finally, he quipped:

Jerusalem's Lot was the first book from S.K. i ever read. I remember it like yesterday, it was in autumn 1980, i was 12 and a rainy storm whistled around our old house. I slept with my light on for many many weeks after reading it. And I never took a look to my window at night during the next winter. The moving shadows on my wall from the tree branches of a big oak that stood in front of our house were creepy enough. But what I really was afraid to see, was a pale smiling face with red eyes and long white teeth, who asks me to be let in. I'm 56 since a week, but this story scared me like hell in those days as a small boy and still does it today as an nearly retired man.
    It's written so fucking good...
And sorry for my english, I'm German and only learned it at school, so there may be some mistakes in it.

Amazing!! Thank you for posting!! Stephen King is like the most popular author in the U.S. I will say his Salem's Lot movie has one of the scariest scenes of all time when the Glick kids are floating outside the window asking for entry. Never invite them in!! I don't even like to think about that scene and I'm almost 60! Best, from Colorado!

Washington's worse! Some of these small logging towns up here harbor some deep dark secrets... don't forget a lot of the serial killers come from up here too (the ones you know about at least).
And there's monsters all right. People just call it Bigfoot but that's nothing but a deflection, a catharsis to deal with what's really going on.
Personally I think it's the lack of sunshine and all this rain. And the forests they're mighty dark and deep here... hundreds of miles of logging roads. I walk them all the time.

Terrible acting. And when is this supposed to take place? Our time or ten years after the events in Salems lot? Because she says ten years ago that people went missing. But they’re talking about Google, and not being able to smoke in bars as if it’s today. So are you moving the timeline up? Because she mentioned the bar starting up in 1971 which would’ve been around the appropriate time for the books, but then she says 10 years ago people started disappearing. If you still mean for this to take place in the same universe as the books, or if you mean it to be historical accurate according to the books, then the book Salems lot being 10 years before this would make it 1985, still way before Google and woke bar policies.

This was fun. The only thing that isn’t consistent with “Salem’s Lot” (other than the location change, which I don’t understand…) is how quickly a person becomes a vampire. SL says it takes a few days, but this has people changing almost immediately (or so it seemed to me). It’s been so long since I read “One For The Road” that I can’t remember if that is what happened in that short story.
Whatever the case, I enjoyed this. 🙂👍

When we came around the corner, he jumped out at us, and we both about peed our self!

My brother told me this story. Back in the late 60s, there was a bar/restaurant about a half a mile from where my mother lived, in Santa Rosa, a rural area. The bar was open at midnight and at that time, no one was in the bar but a lady bartender. A stranger walked in and sat at the bar. The bartender asked the stranger what he wanted to drink. He told her and she poured the drink, but when she looked at his eyes, he had eyes like a snake. She did not want to show she was terrified and told him she would be back after she checked the fridge in the back. She went back there and locked herself in the fridge/storage area. She finally fell asleep, still afraid to come back to the front of the bar. The next day, the owner walked in and he unlocked the storage area and found her. She had fallen asleep but told him of the weird, devil-like stranger.

I just LOVE these kind of mystery shorts. Yesterday I started the movie Avatar part 2, but after 15 minutes it just dawned on me that 3 hours and 15 minutes was just too long. My subscription to Disney was almost over and it felt some kind of 'obligation' to watch this movie that was on my watchlist, although it's not quite my genre. I stopped watching, went to diner and afterwards watched shortfilms. Being a filmmaker myself who loves the thriller/mystery/horror genres, these kind of short films make me more happy and they are a lot more inspiring than a long movie like Avatar. I wonder if there are people here who recognise this.
Of course I do watch longer movies and in special cases series. The Haunting of Hill House is somewhere at the top of my list. I would love to see more of that kind of stuff. I also really appreciate psychological thrillers like Shutter Island. Thank you for sharing this Stephen King short.

It’s a fine enough adaptation, but the snowstorm is as much of a character in the story as anything else. Not only does it make the situation more desperate, the location more desolate, but the fact that the vampires walk above the snow is as iconic as the impact tremors from Jurassic Park.
