Thanks Tom! Was having this exact problem and just figured the motor was either broken, or I’d screwed something up with the install, or overloading the rotisserie. Haven’t used the rotisserie function for over a year now because of the past major malfunction from the jump (ended up with two very unevenly cooked yard birds on my first rotisserie cook). I’m inspired to straighten the collar problem out and give it another go, knowing the fix is so straightforward. Thank you for taking the time to sort out exactly what the issue was and then putting the solution out here in the ether!

These grill companies should hire you as a product tester and consultant for improvements. Not only do you logically point out the pros and cons and develop accessories, but you also fix their mistakes. Nice job Tom!

I also lubed it with a very thin coating of bacon grease. That helped a lot with a 20Lb turkey on the rotisserie.

Just used mine for the first time today, 2 five lb chickens. Doing exactly this reversal garbage, which is why I'm here. After this cook I WILL be modifying it based on your procedure here. Thank you!

Good job Tom..I'm pretty sure it's a mass produced part that Masterbuilt needs to tighten up it tolerances i.e. max and minimum allowances. I would imagine some people will have the same experience or not see it at all because of the machining differences and the people operating them. Hopefully Masterbuilt gets this straightened out soon.

Not a problem I have because it's equipment that I don't own. However, I always enjoy watching your clever mind work, so therefore I watched the entire video anyway, and the adds too.

Clear explanation of issue & how to fix. Maybe a smear of ceramic grease on re-assembly would be a good idea. Its high temp, so would be unaffected by cooking temperatures.

  • @robertdavis4901

The galling on the inner piece is not only due to thermal expansion, there are defects inside the outer piece that is grabbing when the inner peice expands enough. The defects can be removed with a dremmel tool.

I really don’t understand the need to spin birds when you are cooking indirect. Over a fire-makes sense.
Seems like a “made to sell” idea that’s not practical or necessary.
Glad you got it sorted Tom.

    • @JoeAnshien

Interesting question. After pondering it, I think that the heat still comes from below and that as the meat turns the juices redistribute within the meat instead of pooling at the bottom and dripping out from one spot. I do a lot of rotisserie chickens on my gas and charcoal grills and they always come out juicy, never dry. My MB 800 is on the way. I think that Tom needs to do a comparison video of 2 birds. Once spun, one spatch;-)

Compliments on another informative video Tom.
Am I right in thinking that the MB rotisserie kit is designed to support a max. weight of around 9-10kgs/20-22lbs?
Any heavier duty third-party rotisseries capable of supporting ca20kgs/44lbs suitable for the GS 1050 that you’re able to recommend?
    Best regards.

Rotisseries don't make sense with indirect grilling. The reason to have one is to keep one side the meat out of constant direct flame. I love my Char-Griller 980, but if I want to cook on a rotisserie I will use the Onlyfire ring on my Weber kettle.

    • @stantondavis7564

@PM-gifty thats what mine did, and even when I took the outer piece off that you screwed to the motor and just put the shaft straight in, it still did the same thing with and there was nothing for it to rub against. I removed one chicken, and it worked fine. Did you get a fix for yours?

    • @PM-gifty
      @PM-gifty Місяць тому +1

@@stantondavis7564 I ended up taking off about 2mm from the flat end of the shaft with a steel file. This seemed to work fine and now allows the shaft to expand a little more when it heats up.

Hey, Tom: I have a 560 and I do t know if I want to buy Masterbuilt’s rotisserie because of the headaches. I thought I saw a video where you added one before Masterbuilt released theirs, but I can’t find the video. Can you point me in the right direction? Or, even better, is there a different one you’d recommend? Thanks.

we have already PAID for this thing and this is UNEXCEPTABLE in my opinion. Its shobby engineering and they need to correct it. Not everybody has a garage loaded with tools and the skills to ' make it all better '. You PAID for this grill and it should either work as advertized or you should be compensated for the failed part. Peroid.

I believe you figured it out but my question is the ordinary person doesn't have the tools as you do, which is unexcused able, you have tools that the average person does not terrible unfortunately bastards the length is too much I belive it should come ready to rock and roll out of the box but who am I too say??
