So I just finished watching and this one really hit home for me. I recently realized that I wasn't budgeting enough for groceries. I would get hungry throughout the day and snack-snack-snack instead of meal prep. I also realized that I was overspending on my bus pass. I was spending about $100 or so monthly on a $27 weekly when I could have bought a $78 monthly. It is amazing how those small fees, purchases, etc. ca try to sneak past!
I relate to the grocery comment so much, I find that when I am spending less on groceries, it's because I'm going without healthy foods. I always do well by the kids but if I start cutting costs too much, my body is the one to pay for it. If we can afford to keep groceries a priority, I think we should. ❤ I'm glad you were able to cut down the bus pass with a monthly subscription. I find the most joy in tweaking my budget when I find those little fees/purchases and can make them work for me. Great job, and thank you for always contributing so much to our little budget fam!! ❤❤❤
I'm a pencil and paper planner too. On my calendar on my phone, Jorte I keep track of my bills, spending, paydays, work days, etc then translate it to a monthly spending budget, then biweekly paycheck. It's easier to keep track. I have money going to a different bank from my paycheck to save, besides some cash envelopes. Trying to not use credit cards unless can pay right back.
I am so thankful for this video! I start budgeting after my separation and you are part of healing process…. I also wrote a book and hopefully 🙏🏻 I can start a new income
You can go by week or every other week depending on when you get paid. I get paid weekly. I budget every week. I leave bill money in the bank and subtract it from what I earned. The leftover money can be divided as you wish. Grocery...gas .. savings ect.
Great start and explanation Jordan; I need to see this in writing and this method of tracking will help me get started. I hope you keep up with this topic. Thank you for sharing always, Luv, Cynthia
Sooooo just know I clicked on this video soley because I saw the Frixion pens.....I have them all..pens. markers, highlighters....the bonus is I'm also trying to get back on track with budgeting and cash stuffing.
I had to quit eating red meat, dairy, and gluten. My grocery bill has gone down even though the items I'm buying cost more than their counterparts. I'm a paper and pen gal also. I love both and will always use them. Enjoyed your video.💜🌷
I enjoy these longer videos, which it really isn't that long to me. 😅 I think this is a great intro for beginners. I had no idea how to even start my budgeting. I thought I wasn't spending too much, but I still didn't have money left to save. When I did my first tally of all expenses I was horribly shocked at the random stuff I was buying that I didn't really need or ended up not using. 🤦🏻♀️🙄 Another thing was the various categories I was trying to stuff with just one paycheck. It took me a solid 3 months to really get my budget in order and prioritize need vs want. As you go along you can change priorities because maybe one month you have 5 bdays to gift for and maybe the next 2 months you have 0. It becomes way easier and less daunting as you go. All of the tips you gave were so helpful. P.s I'm glad you're back! I too am a pen and paper type of gal. I need the 3D visuals 😂
I was always a paper and pen girl too but I found myself not actually using my planner because I hated making mistakes or crossing stuff out lol So I went digital a couple of years ago. I'm actually in the process of creating some digital products and a digital planner and budget planner for a new Etsy shop. I need to go back over January and do my expenses. I've gotten off track with things. I think it's a great idea to also have that separate calendar for business expenses. I need to do that myself. That may help for tax time too. Also if you do it for business, go ahead and put down anywhere you went business related on there and figure out the mileage so you can keep up with that for taxes. :)
I get my support on the third of every month, so I always pay all my bills at once. Except the ones that go through auto pay then I put them in their envelopes until those are ready to pay.
Oh, I think I could do it this way! Keeping track in a spreadsheet or notebook never works for me! I’m very much that I’m paper and pen person and spreadsheets don’t work for daily life!
Jordan: This is going to be a long video. Me: Quickly looks at time of video. Laughs and say to myself “20 minutes isn’t long, I just watched a 45 minute video”. 😂😂
I thought your tutorials was well done. January was the first month I tracked all my spending as the month went by. It was eye opening, I thought I spent too much on groceries for four at 800, but when I checked it against my state’s average which was 930 I felt like I had it under control. I think it’s hard too know what spending is reasonable with out a state or national average to compare with. What do you think?
I started tracking our spending for this month. I am an all cash user so i keep every receipt. Every day i spend money i take my receipt and write it all down. So that way those receipts are still readable. Because receipts fade quickly lol
I want to do cash budgeting so bad but I hate the idea of having so much cash laying around the house. Do you put it in a lockbox? If so, how do you prevent it from being stolen? What if there’s a fire??? So confused.
Their veggies are in my food budget which may be contributing to my higher grocery bill!! lol! I really should make them their own little category. ❤❤❤
In the editing process I kept asking myself the same thing. =P I see that I missed it and didn't total it, I'm going to do better moving forward. It's always a story of progress over perfection! ❤
I've looked at Lilly and Fox, I need to give them a try I just love Dashing Diva so much I haven't made the switch. Have you tried both brands? Do you like them equally? ❤❤❤
I'm sorry but I am a single mother and kill myself working overtime, extra jobs, and anything to make ends meet and never made anywhere near what you do in a month so honestly it kinda kills me that you are doing videos about how broke you are, makes me wonder if you know what broke is 🤔
I understand where you’re coming from. Feel free to watch some of my older videos where my budget on a good month was $3,000. It’s comments like this that make me want to stop sharing my income and stop sharing so much. But please remember all our budgets and needs are different. I have business expenses and taxes that have to come out of that income. I also pay a ton of money in travel to doctors for my boys, and homeschool needs that you guys don’t see. Both things I consider a necessity for us that others don’t have to worry about. I have the same advice about budgets that I often say about UA-cam, compare your growth to yourself, don’t compare your journey to someone else’s.
@@JordanBudgets Fair enough. I am interested in learning to budget because it does get away from me too if it isn't written down so I am glad you are doing this. I'll have to start your videos from the beginning, just found you yesterday. I appreciate your reply, thank you.

Paper and pen girl here as well! I’ve tried making my own excel budget sheets, and like you spent hours on them and then never used them. 🤷🏼♀️💚😊
