It's been a long time since we've had Benny's Barra-powered Cresta at Haltech so we were super excited to see it roll in a couple of weeks ago. The car has undergone massive changes since our last feature over 5 years ago, and the time finally came to upgrade the old relay/fuse set up with a brand new PD16. Does any one here think that Haltech, Benny's garage or Skid factory would've been as big on UA-cam if it wasn't for Marty and Moog? Or at least I think it helped a lot of you guys start your own channels and create so much great content for all of us to be part of. First of all huge thanks to mighty car mods and huge thanks to the skid factory, Benny's garage and Haltech for all of these years with great content and provided knowledge!
It's kind of morally the wrong way around though. It's true but I'd feel better if people were actually interested in the competent guys enough to seek them out.
@@rimmersbryggeri I didn't say they were ungreatful or doing anything wrong to begin with. But without MCM putting these guys out there we wouldn't have any of the other channels to take part of either. Therefore I'm greatful for the initiative MCM started and these guys continued with to educate us.
Hell yeah !!! Scotty and Benny working on the beast. I love when Benny get's together with Scotty and we get to learn more technical stuff. Aw yeah even Dave made an appearance !! The electrical wizard joins the madness.
My Starlet is getting one of these when I rewire the car for sure! Makes wiring so much simpler and easy to diagnose issues👌🏻 More inputs and outputs is always a positive too
Glad to see this on the market finally. I hated to have to use the I/O expander with my Nexus R5 and now I can upgrade to a more capable box and get rid of a few relay in the trunk.
Considering how many cars are being electronically written off with no supply of obsolete parts, this unit seems like a solution to reducing automotive waste on a grand scale. Would be good seeing a similar video of this unit being used to control regular BCM functions like HVAC control, windows, audio, lighting as well. Maybe via a floor layout of parts? A simulation or via a series of graphics? A great bit of equipment for sure.
Don't use pin 86 for ground because when you wire up a diode protected relay, it will blow the diode up and leave you with nice flyback to the ecu output
That’s killer, it reminds me of my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer, everything was powered by the ecu and body control module, it will be great to have all the same features in my race car as that SUV had
In the case off an NA SR20 (Autech/variable lift on intake, thermos, fuel pump and various standard vehicle electrics), without a whole lot of bells and whistles, is a PDM a fair option, or is it worth saving the money and options for a fuse box system?
Could you set up a display on the dash for you multi option functions? You could have a single button, set up however many steps you want, something like launch rpm then tap through, 3500, 3800, 3900, 4000….. 3500 each tap the screen would just display the new setting for 3s or similar.
Hey Scott you are pulling wires out IO box plug then crimping a super seal and stabbing in where ever in the PDM So for this very scenario Can we now re allocate the colors in the wiring allocation table in the software ?? oh wow configurable fail state that's awesome
Has there been a price hike recently? I looked at a 750 for my track car the other day and I feel like it was $500 more than when I looked at them recently. Either way, I can't afford Haltech stuff :-(
The NSP software really needs to be updated to match what your competitors are able to do. Why can’t I use the same keypad input for two outputs without having to hack a rotary trim output. E.g. if I have 2 thermofans and I want to run them at 100% after a race I can’t do it with 1 button. Same with the wipers, fuel pumps etc You have introduced shock pots in the software but they aren’t available on the v2.35 CAN protocol. Why are the number of Generic Inputs and Outputs limited for Elite ECU products? This limits the number of potential circuits able to be run from the PDM. I assume it’s due to the lower processing power but I could switch on every single sensor in the software and it would still run. Why not just have 10 extra generic inputs and outputs that are only available if they will actually impact the processor with the current sensor selection. Surely there is processing power not being utilised because it is allocated to sensors that aren’t used. The Haltech forums have been offline for days. Is there any plans to fix this?
The Haltech forums have been closed permanently, I'm sorry. Please contact our tech support team via www.haltech.com/contact-us for your other queries.
Why? Coolant is at boiling point or higher, and it can go over boiling point because it’s pressurised They used to push huge trains with steam pressure. In fact the whole industrial revolution was because of steam engines and the pressure created by boiling water. Guess you didn’t do physics at school
@@haltech seems weird to remove and/or prioritize sensors when inevitably it will have a Nexus. I know they're pricey but the car is snowballing fast. Buy once, cry once?
Yep, you're not wrong, Benny obviously had other short-term plans that were more pressing than installing a Nexus but we're told once the car is back from the Drag Week it'll be due for more upgrades.
@@Jake_Hamlin I have an R5 ready to go but because Dragweek crept up on me we’re running the 2500. I currently have all the data I need but it will be cool to add more sensors with the R5
Changing the thumb made me click again. Is that the purpose? To make people unhappy? Congratulations. Unsubscribed. Should fire everyone but Scotty anyway. Especially the chump playing F'n tricks with the thumbnails.
Most UA-cam channels load a couple of different thumbs when making a video live and let the algorithm decide which one works better. It takes a couple of days for it to settle on the one that's getting more clicks. It's unusual that you'd get served a different thumb if you've already watched the video though, but it's something we can't really control. . . PS We have all submitted our resignations as per your suggestion. Waiting for a reply from the management.

Yea, I’d go a step further and say always look at the diagram for the relay before wiring it. There is really no such thing as a “standard” relay.
So good to watch the Haltech dudes and Benny, cool as cucumbers. 😄
Been looking at doing a nice custom harness when I get a decent engine management I like and add boost. The PDM makes it look like an easy job.
If you don't already have an ECU, it might be easier to go for the R5, which is basically the ECU and PDM all in the same box.
Masterclass stuff blokes !!!
Luv this tech , My 2500 is still alive and fighting strong, Cant wait to put a PDM on it
