Blessed with decent sensation. Rarely use a suppository. An apple a day, Miralax every other night and exercise (rolling on stomach, lifting weights, aerobic stuff) makes me an every 2-3 day bowel program. I commend everyone who has these difficulties; light breakfast (boiled egg/ o.juice, morning - half a turkey sandwich/ Coke, lunch - one serving dinner with veggie, fruit, chicken/ fish and Ocean Spray cran-grape. I've had the metal bullet insertor and stem apparatus but a too ery of a feeling...we do as we must. Very nice of you to share, Mark!
Hi buddy, I really enjoyed your video, I fell 25 feet out of a deer stand in 1995 in the woods, within seconds of my hitting the ground, this thought of being forever in a wheel chair and how would I go to the bathroom ? Long story short , didn’t suffer any paralysis but I have crushed T-11and T12 and no disk between, painful ,but I am very great full to be able to walk and have regular bowel movements. You story has made me see , how lucky I am. I will pray for you and your health and your family 🤓🐹
Thank you David for your kind words. The bowel program can be a struggle, but I too realize how lucky & blessed I am and I use that energy to help others. Take care!
Whats up Mark! I just posted an independent bowel video too but I definitely don't have that much sensation or function! I could never sit direct on a toilet seat like that.. but you have a really nice transfer in and out. When you do the wipe leaning on your elbow your halfway to doing my style of transfer lol... Dude when I was trying to open the magic bullets with my teeth I accidentally got a taste of suppository a few times and that stuff is nasty lol. Great job brother!
Shawn thanks for the love buddy! Yeah I have been fortunate to be able to use the toilet, which is great if I'm out and about and need to go. I try to be as independent in my chair as possible. Man I know what you mean about the suppositories. I tasted a few and it's like a burning spicy nastiness that lingers. I guess that's why they work! Take care man.
Hi ive just bought one of these but have been too scared to try it. Im only paraplegic, but complete, so no sensation at all nor movement. I have very limited muscle strength in my core or upper back or shoulders and so cannot self transfer but am hoisted. I kind of blame rehab because although im too young, they put me a nursing home for 6 years. They used 2nd daily enemas and as I did nothing at all, even make a coffee for 6 years, I lost a lot of shoulder range of movement and enough strength for any hope of transfer, even cant balance unsupported. I got out a year ago in a nursing home and so I live in a specially built wheelchair friendly villa with carers . A nurse visits mon, we'd, fri and still does enemas. I still feel humiliated and it effects my freedom of time etc I tried doing my own enemas but could not reach. Then spinal outreach suggested I switch to one of these. Exact as this one but in australia I paid 245au. Ive been scared to try because I can't feel and I don't know how you meant to tell. Plus it feels very hard on the end? Im guessing though it would be the suppository tip that would go in first though ? Question, is it possible with no sensation? I have an alternating air mattress si a mirror wouldnt stand up. A hand mirror was mentioned on the video but would you have a free hand. Just anxious I guess
Thank you for such an informative video. I am impressed at how you can do this in such a small bathroom. I think with it being small, it probably helps more than hinders. This video will help many! Can you do a video on how you get in your shower? Thanks again.
Thank you for the kind words. I hope that those watching that have to perform bowel programs with assistance can see that there is a way to do it independently, depending on their level of function. The small bathroom does help because there is less opportunity for my wheelchair to roll away :) I am getting a new folding shower chair installed tomorrow so I will definitely do a video. Take care.
Thank you! I actually ended up getting a colostomy which has been a major improvement to my life. I'm hoping to make some videos this summer and talk about it.
Damn i got a spinal cord injury in 2013 and i'm gonna be honest with you Mark.I've tried digital stimulation and that did not go well for me.I take lots of stool softnrers and laxative prescribed by my family physician and that don't seem to work well for me either.I have incontinence often(bowel accidents)You said that the magic bullet seems to work for you.I have prescription for that too but i can't see myself inserting this in my rectum.I find it so disgusting to do that i put it off and just keep on taking a bunch of laxative and stool softeners and going through incontinence often. After watching your video, something in my head told me to give it a try and see if i can put myself to try it.I do have use of my legs and hands and harms.I need to get that disgusting part out of my head and see if this is the thing for me.I do have a question for you. When using the magic bullet,do you get lots of accidents?I want to thank you so much for making this video.Truly informative indeed. You're an inspiration to watch and listen too buddy.Greetings from Canada.
Thanks Stephane for your comments. Yeah sticking the inserter up your rectum isn't the most pleasant thing in the world, but you get used to it and it really becomes second nature. And because you can use your hands you could probably pull off the insertion with a latex glove and some lubricant. I mean if this will give you freedom from accidents and piece of mind it's worth a try right? The magic bullets have served me well and if used consistently as part of a program your body will adjust and accidents will be more infrequent. I suggest trying your routine at night that way your bowels will be relaxed by the morning. I wish you the best of luck my friend. Take care!
Do you keep the suppositories in the refrigerator? They work are there easier to insert when they’re cold. Also you should not have to pay for that out of your own money. Your doctor should write a prescription for it and it could be mailed to any pharmacy that you want and they mail it to you and they bill your insurance. All the stuff just needs a prescription from the doctor. There’s a lot of pharmacies The nurses can fax it to them whatever one you want to use give them the information your address and everything and until just delivered to your house or put it in the mail to you. I hope you know some of that part if it helps out
Thanks Sharon for your comments. I should have my doctor write a prescription. I have always purchased over the counter because the process is quicker, but paying a copay would be better!
Hi Juan. It's a good question that unfortunately I don't know the answer. By law I think they need to show an expiration date, but they should work well after the printed expiration date. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Yes a physical therapist can work a man you need all the stuff and get you a doctors order then your insurance pays for everything you should not have to pay for anything. And just find a pharmacy around that delivers. You can fax it to pharmancy or the doctors office can do it are you can take it to store or mail it.
Hi Emmett I'm sorry I thought I responded. To be honest I drink a lot of water and stay pretty regular. If I felt constipated I would let my bladder pressure build up which would make my bowels start to move.
@@EmmettLyman Honestly everyone is different and sometimes you simply have to be creative. I used to take a little Metamucil at night as well which seemed to help move things along, but you need to find the right dose that works for you. Increased intake of magnesium I hear also helps quite a bit. Best Of luck!
HI. I am Quadriplegic too C6-C7. My name is Georgi. May I ask some questions about our problems? First I'm interested where can I find or buy the device for the bowel in which the candle is inserted? Help me please
Hi Gio. This is the online store that I used to purchase the bowel care aids. www.rehabmart.com/product/digital-bowel-stimulator-or-suppository-inserter-5938.html
Question...Wouldn’t it be easier to insert the suppository while on the toilet instead of worrying about making it? You have to get back on the chair with the suppository device inside of your butt! Doesn’t that hurt during the transfer? You have been very helpful. Thank you so much!
Hi Nancy. Thank you for your comments. I probably could insert it on the toilet, but it would come right out after I sat back on the toilet. Once I insert the suppository on the bed I remove the device and stay there for a few minutes before transferring. This gives it time to dissolve. Transferring out of the wheelchair when I feel it has kicked in is a luxury with the incomplete sensation and I don't suggest this for everyone. However, I recently had a colostomy and don't have to do any of this anymore...well mostly! Take care.
You don't do digital stimulation which would make it more complicated. I think that if and I'm not sure but digital stimulation makes everything come out and doing that is another thing you have to learn. I don't know just throwing it out there.
Thanks for your comments. If I were to do digital stimulation I would most likely do it on the toilet and without wrist flexion it would be extremely hard to do. Since the suppository works well for me I am opting to poke myself the least amount of times down there since I have injured myself in the past.

A great tip for more support around the toilet is a walker turned backwards...it gives rails on each side.
