I’ve just discovered this Chanel and wish I had found it a long time ago . I’m useless and wood work and have no clue how to get parallel or square material . But seen a few great ideas to help . Thanks you for these great video
Sedge, thank you for taking the time to teach Big D. I have learned so much from your videos with sedgetool, day job, and your podcasts. Your passion is obvious and contagious! Thank you so much!
17.27 "You have a lot of time into this cabinet already and you've still got four pieces of plywood." So true. Tremendous video, guys! I'm a fairly experienced woodworker but I'm in the process of designing and building my kitchen at the moment and it's the scalability that is daunting. This has been great for helping me get my head around the process. I don't have the full festool setup but thats not the point. It's the process.
I made a rip cut on plywood today, and after the cut, I noticed I said to myself “That’s the best cut I’ve ever seen.” LOL. Kind of like when you can’t get that song out of your head.
Holy moly that’s a great looking box! Really appreciate these videos, feels like I’m right in the shop with you guys! Also excited to finally build some fully Festool made cabinets now that there’s a video that makes sense! Thanks guys! 💘

Hey Sedge & Big D - Thx for the great videos, both here and on Festool Live they have been very helpful. I am planning a kitchen project remote from my shop. Before embarking on that I thought I would organize the shop and do a little practice at the same time. So I am building a Systainer wall. The first part I did in a traditional Domino glue up manner with nailers screwed the the outside. All went well including a few hard lessons on “square care” during glue up. Since the kitchen is remote I am using the Festool KD connectors. Your lessons have invaluable here and the cabinets have gone together smoothly. When it came to installing the nailers I thought I would practice making each cabinet an “end cabinet” with hidden dominos rather that visible screws. After messing around with it for a while I have concluded that while this is possible it is not a fast and easy setup. So since these are just shop cabinets for practice I am using the typical screw methods. So the question is can you explain and/or show sometime the method for hidden dominos for end cabinets. Even the “Build with Brent” series blows past this with “since this is NOT an end cabinet we will use screws”). Thx again - Bill
Thanks a bunch for this very thorough video. Ties everything together. Do you use glue as well or just keep to the mechanical type joinery? I am not a big fan of glue, it is messy and sometimes I get panicky about getting all the dominos in place before the glue dries. So, particularly with plywood or MDF, what do you suggest? Also would you please include a list of ALL the tools that you use in a video. It would really help in duplicating your setups. I recognize most if not all of them, but I have been staring at UA-cam Festool videos for a year and a half, and a new person to woodworking/cabinetry would probably appreciate such a list. So would Festool (hint, hint).
I do not use glue .... just another step not needed. I also use a lot of prefinished plywood and glue does not adhere to the finish. I will start listing tools used in videos. thanks for your advice !!! It helps us !!!
Just watch this terrific video. Couple of questions: 1. Do you have a hands on school for cabinets (basics)-would purchase for my retired husband; 2. Very well done, and I’m sure my husband will benefit from this video ( he is very handy...just needs the set up process. And, has Festool products.
At 34:20 in the video you use a measuring tape to measure the inside measurement to calculate the back panel measurements. In a lot of your videos you list "Tools used in this video". Can you tell me where to obtain it. Thanks for all your great content. Love watching them and learning.
@@sedgetool Thanks. I have been looking for a simple tape that can measure accurate inside dimensions. The only ones available are ones with a Laser and the small LED displays are hard to read or ones that you have to add the tape dimension to the tape dimension.

And yet another brilliant video, am slowly making my way through your entire library. Two questions if I may (from a very beginner level) 1. Why are the sides of a cabinet always on the inside of the sides? And if the answer is something to do with the domino, does the theory still hold true if not using a domino? 2. Do you have a link for that particular tape measure with the viewing window? Many thanks, and also thanks so much for continually answering all my questions

3 dominos if no screws....This is a great topic that we are going to shoot a video in the near future.....the exposed end can be covered by an end panel , applied molding, plugged , filled ......etc..... Thanks for watching !!!!!

Great video guys and I learned a lot. The 700 router you used at the 21 minute mark to do the dado… Is the 700 base and fence included in the MFK700 accessory kit or is it separate items? And can you list the part numbers? Hopefully you guys do a video on how to use the LR32 system to pre-bore the holes for something like Blum drawer slides…. Hey Sedge! Is the little tool you use to get the 6mm around the 2:50 mark included with most of the track saws? Scratching my head on where to find it (know I could use a combo square but trying to make life easy). Keep up the awesome videos-I'm loving Festool as a system the more I get into it!
Hi Sedge When does your video on base cabinets come out? And could you do a video on making some drawers aswell? I know its a big ask but i wolud be very glad if you did :D bye bye now :)
Thank you for this. I'm looking at switching over to 32mm system along with LR32, and your videos are the best. However I'm having a hard time finding how to address toe kick for lowers. Any suggestions ?
Sedge, seeing as this is bread and butter butt joining of the cabinet sides, the full-length back panel retaining groove on the side panels will peek through on the top and bottom of the cabinet in the corners. I realize that this is normally not visible in a floor cabinet with a counter top situation. And I did see on your Festool Live one time you had a sweet Domino plug solution to cover that sort of space. But IF someone wanted to make a blind groove on the vertical cabinet panels, is there a cleaner solution already within the Festool system? Maybe using one of the plunge-base routers and then also the quick-adjust stops on the track itself? I wish I could be clearer with my question and I'm not yet familiar with the model numbers of the Festool power tools & accessories (I don't own any...YET, lol)
Sedge, at 3:01, you reminded Big D to lift the TS 55 blade up at while still running at full speed at the end of the cut. Would you explain the reason why this should be done? I'm somewhat puzzled when we are reminded to let the Kapex blade come to a full stop before lifting the blade? At least one source I found (e.g., the TS 55 REQ Supp Manual, p. 18 under "General Procedures") seems to suggest leaving the blade fully plunged at the end of the cut until it comes to a complete stop. In the past I've always told my novice woodworker friends when I'm introducing them to to joys of Festool to let the blade to come to a full stop before lifting.
@@sedgetool Thanks, Sedge. You're the MAN! I knew I could get the straight scoop from you. By the way, you must be one seriously early riser. I see a lot of your online work shows up well before "0-dark thirty." Get some rest, my friend. Zzzzzz's are good for mind and body.
Great video, thanks! Question; in another video you mention setting the LR stops "32 Up and Out", in this video you used "16 Up and Out". When do you use the two different "Up and Outs"?
That is correct... 16 up and out for the sides of the cabinet....32 up and out for the door... if you use / count 3 full 32mm holes then the cup hinge and hinge plate line up perfect...
Hey Sedge, if you are applying a face frame to the cabinet, and want to use dominos, how can you set up the tool and layout so that the face frame has a 1/16 overhang on each side?
@@sedgetool I saw a clip (a while back) where you did the dominos in the right setting on the frame, using 28 on the depth but on the case it was 20, leaving 4mm per side. Maybe a “Big D: hey Sedge” short video. You give out a ton of good information some gets lost in the lengths of the videos
I have always used screws for basic cabinetry utilizing the domino for front edge alignment and to ease assembly ..When I am building a case / cabinet...Think free standing bookcase ...I usually just use dominos...I hope this helps !!!
couple of question: I use baltic birch and it a lot harder to pass with the router unlike you, why? 2- the 6 mm bit is to small for my 6 mm plywood, why? Can you help me?
I use a 6mm up spiral bit for the groove.... Baltic birch has many more plys than the 18mm ply I am using so possibly there is a lot more glue line ... but with a sharp bit it should be no problem ... To answer the 2nd question I would definitely measure the thickness of your backing ply to see it it is truly 6mm ....
Also I don’t see any glue when putting these cabinets together, looks like not needed? When you are adding dominos you added only 2. What’s the general rule? Can I apply the same for drawers too? A drawer 700mm x 520 mm (28-1/8 x 21 inches) for Blum undermount
no need for glue ... you can use it though... by not using glue we can eventually take it apart and finish it flat ...make it easy. there is no general rule for domino spacing...... I like to space my dominos every 150mm apart......but in this cabinet build the domino tenon is used for alignment in assembly ... hope this makes sense..... we plan on creating plenty of videos using the domino in the future .... including drawer box building......
@@sedgetool you are an awesome teacher/mentor!! So if you are saying domino is meant for alignment, is it the screws that’s holding it together? I saw you add GRK screws only to the end was there any added in the middle as well? When working with a 1/2 inch material for drawers, are screws still considered a better option? Coz to me the hard part to keep them perpendicular when driving in
I always put the edge banding on first ...That way I get a true 37mm from the front edge of box....so it does not matter if you use .5mm or 1 mm banding ...
I am scratching my head till now how can that tape accurate as the radius of winded tape is always differ, and from top transperant window it show accurate measurements 😮
Have been using festool 55 and 75 for solid sirfave work for probably a dozen years..does anyone else notice in anything above 48” there is a noticeable bow in the track?…I see everyone swear on these tracks for plywood breakdown I wouldn’t even consider it..that slight radius is not something I can work with..curious am I the only one who sees this?
I have seen this a 1000 times...it is not the track....most believe it is...In most of my videos I address this....the user needs to push the saw from behind...I know this because of the frustration iI used to have 18 years ago until I figured it out...The track has a little flex to it and if you push the saw from the side you will end up with a hollow in the board...I wish I could come to your shop to show you....
When this system first came out it was or accurate but it was a game changer…64” of an inch is crucial in how I need it to be and it falls short..not a hater at all ..love festool and all their tools but that is annoying..yet folks swear about the accuracy of it..kid of a head scratcher..
It is hard to explain the little intricacies of he Festool system..even through videos it is tough...wish I could still do end user classes...maybe someday again....
I say build a box with tools people have. Not sure if the point is showcasing Festool but nobody watching has all them Festool gadgets. The work is great but when you master festool it becomes almost robotic. Anyway, great work but if you did one with minimal tools it would show people it’s possible without using 10k worth of festool tools.
Sedge - you are excellent model of mentoring/coaching.

Sedge, did you drive the screws through the dominos at the ends? And what size were the quickdrive screws?
1 1/4 " quick drive screws for assembly
Do you have a link to your metric tape measure?

Hey! Just noticed the fancy knob pin thing you have on the parallel stops, is that another hack?
good eyes .... yep ...switched it out years ago... makes it easier for me ...
How would you do a sink base? Would you do all of the base cabinets with a open top or closed?
open tops....
Great video gentlemen. One question, which Festool router did you use? Peter
The MFK700 for grooving and the OF1400 for the LR32 system.......
@@sedgetool thank you
Great video! I have one question - what is the purpose of 9.5mm of the LR 32 end stops?
Raffix Knock down fasteners
@@sedgetool Thank you! Do you have video, which demonstrates the usage of lr32 and work with Raffix?
At 5:16. Looks a bit short of 300mm? 299 or maybe 299,5mm. Is this a normal discrepancy for the Festool parallel side fence?
I think the discrepancy may be my eyes in set up
Hey Sedge, if you are applying a face frame to the cabinet, and want to use dominos, how can you set up the tool and layout so that the face frame has a 1/16 overhang on each side?
great question....i need to do avideo on this....I build the FF first and then build the box to the frame. I use a 2mm reveal on each side
What tape measure is that? I want one!

Are there cabinet builds using a domino where screws are not required? Or it’s always good to add screws as well when building cabinets using dominos.
What is the brand of those screws?
Quickscrews !!!
You mentioned finishing, would you normally do that prior to the shelf pin holes?
Hey Sean... I have never had any problems finishing after I have punched my shelf pin holes....
Thank you for the replies, Sedge!
I thought there was a whole sedge series on cabinet build. Was i crazy?
More cabinet building this year to come !!!
Coz to me the hard part to keep them perpendicular when driving in
I forgot to ask, edge banding before doing the shelf pin holes? If not that would put the holes at 38mm+ from the front edge I’m guessing.
I always put the edge banding on first ...That way I get a true 37mm from the front edge of box....so it does not matter if you use .5mm or 1 mm banding ...
it seems hair is optional in your shop Sedge
Lol !!!!!
Festool make some good tools, but there very expensive and there are other tools on the market, could you build anything without festool tools,
I am unable to build anything without using Festool...Festool is just that good......
Love you video, just a question: what is your tape measure? I find it cool!
It is a FastCap Metric / Imperial tape !!!!
@@sedgetool the one that you can see on the top the distance?
Please?
It's the Festool tape measure!
@@tedrzz It's no avalable anymore...
Does anyone know who that tape measure manufacturer is????
Fastcap
I am scratching my head till now how can that tape accurate as the radius of winded tape is always differ, and from top transperant window it show accurate measurements 😮
Special Festool tape
You set the domino to 20 but 18 ply. Should it be set to 18?
nope does not matter and there is no 18 setting on the stop block !!!
Thanks Joey
I’m watching and I have all those festool tools. Sounds like you need to read the room jmk7104
If I only had Festools :-)
someday ???
Starting point is buying any shit Festool offers? 😂
True 🤣🤣
Fat thumbs..apologies..
no worries Jeff
To work in your shop is it mandatory to shave my head?
For sure
It’s also mandatory in order to be in my gang
Stop mentioning inchers, inches make no sense.
ok
dude, you lost me on this one!!!! lets build a 50.00 cabinet with 100K worth of festool shit
Good For You...Thanks for sharing....
Would love to see this without the teaching to see how fast he could make a cabinet ..
really quick.....Thanks for sharing
