I would definitely be excited for a Silmarillion read along. Or even discussion on chapters with everyone reading on their own would be great as well. I think that could take the LOTR trivia to a whole new level. Very excited for the idea!

@@yojon4905 We should do a weekly update on how likely we think the silmarillion readalong is. How would you rate the likelihood on the scale from a strawberry seed to a melon? I'm a grape at the moment.
Awesome episode! Can't wait to see Viggo on the show!! PLEASE READ The Silmarillion! That's a promise I've been waiting for since you guys and Elijah said you would all read it together!!! Andy Serkis has done audiobooks for TH and LotR, so you two should get ahead of the game and do the Silmarillion! It's so amazing!
I would ABSOLUTELY recommend The Silmarillion. I could not recommend it more. It is my favorite Tolkien book, hands down. It is very difficult to begin, but it literally just gets better and better as it goes. The Ainulindalë, the very beginning of The Silmarillion, is dense and difficult. I won't sugarcoat it, it gave me pause on my first attempt. But if you're into mythology, it's infinitely fascinating. I recommend keeping RotK on-hand for the pronunciation guide in the appendices. I recommend even more to listen to the audiobook on your first attempt. The audiobook read by Martin Shaw is excellent, and it really helps with pronunciation and following the dense parts.
My advice is dont try to remember everything first time reading. Just read and experience. The characters that matter will come across enough times to remember them by the end.
100% read the simarillion. Approach it from a history book perspective, with character quotes and stories. It’s sad some people start but don’t finish because they think it will be like reading the hobbit or the lord of the rings. I encourage you to read it and it would be amazing to read it together. I would have loved to have read it with someone and discuss when I first read it. So much history and backstory to fill in generations of details.
Dom, re: your printer issue. If an inkjet printer has sat for an extended period without printing, the print heads may be dried out, or the cartridges may be dried out. Try cleaning the print heads and running the alignment/setup again, as if it was a new printer. If that doesn't work, try new cartridges. If the printer cannot print a test from the onboard screen, it is something local. If it prints local, but wont print from a document sent from the computer, it might be a driver or communication issue. (i.e. software or cable) hth
This ^^^ I gave up on inkjet printers years ago and switched to laser to just to avoid the issues with clogged/dried out print heads. Older inkjets had the printer head as part of the cartridge, so when you put a new one in, it would resolve all the issues, but they went away from that years ago and made them separate items. I've had really good luck so far with Brother laser multifunction printers/scanners/copiers/(the older one even had fax capability).
Hey Billy and Dom. Your podcast always brightens up my week. I can not stop smiling. It has brought back so many memories of my LOTR days. My friend and I loved reading the books and had quite a collection of merchandise even the LOTR role playing game. My friend also use to make me laugh with a Gollum mask. Please keep up the podcast I love watching it on UA-cam and listen to it on Spotify when I’m in the car. Thank you. You guys are amazing.
I'm listening to the audio book of The Silmarillion right now but would love a book club to follow, Tolkien or other books. I love this podcast and my 5 month old listens along with me in the car and its even stopped him crying once or twice.
Good day to you!!!! There is a statue being made by Weta called Escape off the Road to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Fellowship of the Ring, and you should do a review of it. Maybe discuss what the filming of that’s scene was like?
So, on the topic of books, when I was at uni, my dissertation was about the Vietnam War in American Theatre, and I was having to read some really heavy literature. So, a friend of mine said "try reading this" and she passed me a copy of Terry Pratchett' "Mort", and it was the first series of books that I fell in love with, and brought me to reading in general. And now, I am also reading the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan... love fantasy fiction like LOTR.
Would be awesome to do a Salmarillion read along, like a few chapters a week or something so all us can tag along! and have a segment where you guys discuss each week about what you read.
I think it's best to read The Silmarillion with friends because I first read the Silmarillion during a read along on Tumblr. Everyone talked about the week's reading and made fan art, timelines, and family trees, and that really helped me remember the characters and keep all that epic history straight. Not to mention it was more fun with all those friends enjoying it at the same time.🙂
You guys should record some of your League of Legends games together and put them on UA-cam because I have a feeling they would be brilliant to watch. I need to see Billy playing Dr Mundo in the jungle!
Sure, read The Silmarillion. It kind of reads like an old Bible, but it adds a lot of understanding. I read LotR every year for twenty years. After the films, I stopped doing that, but I recently decided to take it up again.
YES YES YES definitely read the Silmarillion. It is so great, some of my favorite parts of the LOTR movies were any mentions from the Silmarillion. Morgoth got a name drop, Beren and Luthien. Def read it please.
Speaking of PJ when are you going to have SIR Peter Jackson on the show??? He can tell us about some of the mischief that you two got into off the cameras that didn't make it on the appendices discs or UA-cam.
