I loved his character (Spike) so much on Buffy and I wasn’t even aware of why, but subconsciously I must have realized/ picked up on the fact that he is theatrically trained. But the more I learn about the actor behind the character the more I see James in Spike, but also the more I respect James, he’s truly inspirational. When no one believed in him he kept at it, he spoke his truth when no one wanted to hear it. And in the end he succeeded.
Spike was an intelligent analysis of females and how they naturally fraternize with what they say they hate or call enemies. Hilarious character. Great concept that the foretold female vampire slayer gets slayed by multiple vampires. Heh.
One thing I really appreciate about James Marsters is when he narrates an audiobook, he doesn't give the female characters ridiculous voices like a surprising number of men who read audiobooks do.
@@pendafen7405 She had a crush on him. He wrote a song about her, telling her that when she grew up she'd realize he wouldn't be good enough for her. Michelle has also said herself that the one that was dangerous for her, the one the rest of the cast protected her from, was Joss - not James. I would say though that his wife was waaay too young for him when they got together. But I have no doubt he truly fell for her, since they were together for more than 15 years. I think the reason why the Buffy musical episode worked while other shows didn’t was because the random musical numbers were able to be worked into the plot. There’s a magical demon explanation for why everyone is suddenly breaking out into song, so even though it’s ridiculous it still makes sense in that universe. It’s something you could only pull off in that kind of modern fantasy setting.
I learned this "riddle" from an Encyclopedia Brown years ago. But come on, McKenzie Grammar, a bookkeeper is not another word for a librarian. It's more of an accountant.
OMG, thanks for this video! I watched James in Buffy and he was the only reason why I actually did it. He is such a talented actor, the best in this series. And his character always brings me joy, without him all this simply would not be interesting for me.
A bookkeeper keeps financial records, closer to an accountant than a librarian…i was shouting in the middle of the second riddle 😂 anyways love James and of course Spike. I wish they sang something together, or talked about James’ British accent. Thanks for having him as a guest.
i liked james marsters as an actor when i watched buffy, and now i like him even better as a person, thanks for having him on the podcast. (i also don't eat lima beans!)
The sound of James‘ laughter always makes me smiling. And this show makes me smile until my cheeks burn and more! I didn’t know lima beans before - after all, they provide entertainment! 😏 Really enjoyed the show and will watch the next one tomorrow! Thanks for sharing! Bye bye 👋 Katie
Oh my God, this podcast/UA-cam channel gets better and better. Dom and Billy AND James Marsters?! This is the Christmas present I didn't even know I needed!
I love James. Spike was by far my favoite charactor on Buffy. I am so excited that he is on the show. Love hearing stories, and learning more about people. I was also yelling Bookkeeper at you guys. I can't believe i got it before you.
I was going to watch/listen to these in order, but as soon as I saw the name James Marsters, my fangirling got the better of me. 4 episodes to go to catch up, but screw it. I'm watching this tonight.
Love this episode. Marsters seems like such a great guy. Loved your guys' discussions and interactions about games and whatnot. Awesome stuff. Keep up the amazing work gents.
This was wonderful! The Lord of fantasty films and one of the greatest TV shows in one podcast! For the people not familiar with "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" I suggest to watch some of the episodes (cause they really are among the greatest of TV episodes). Like "Innocence" and "Becoming Part 1&2" from season 2, and "Earshot" and "The Wish" (S3), "Hush" (S4), "The Body" (S5) and the musical one they mentioned "Once More With Feeling" from Season 6.
I love when Dom says would you say leema or Lima and Billy says I'd say Lima and Dom says well you haven't been and the laughter from Billy and Dom is so infectious. I rewatched way too many times 😁
Okay, my head just exploded seeing this. LOST and BUFFY are my 1st and 2nd all time favorite shows. I've watched both through probably 20 times! Worlds colliding🤯🤯🤯
Hi guys! Love all you're doing with the podcast, not only as a LOTR fand but also the huuuge amount of things you talk about each program: literature, music, riddles, anecdotes and so on... though I don't see but listen on Spotify on my way to work which is the reason I'm writing this here. I'm an English teacher in Spain and you can't make an idea how the podcast has been giving me ideas and content to present to my groups just to make the lessons spicier (not to mention your accents which I absolutely love!!)... keep doing your thing, since we not only entertain ourselves but also learn! Cheers from Tenerife!
Where else can I laugh hysterically about lima beans? Love your show, Billy and Dom! Still want to challenge Dom to a belching contest...wish he'd take me up on it. I have a good chance of winning.
The farthest James has been for a con is NZ! lol Though probably very easily forgotten because it was a tiny Buffy con 20 years ago with Brian Thompson and Emma Caulfield and a bunch of rabid Scoobies. I remember they teased the musical episode, which he was brilliant in. He was awesome and Spike immediately became my favourite character, I already liked Spike, James made me LOVE Spike.
@@moonstone___ That's a really good point and you are obviously 100% correct! From Mexico! I've tried thinking about something that would capture a piece of Mexico that i grew up with that would work on Billy and Dom eat the world. PULPARINDO is a tamarind candy that i think you guys would love and now comes in popsicle and ice cream version as well!!!!
Even though everyone thinks of librarians when they hear "bookkeeping", bookkeeping is actually synonymous with accounting. So sadly, Ms Grammar wasn't quite giving them correct hints. Loved this episode!
19:02 "I like to play against a computer programme that is very finely tuned to let me win." James Marsters and I have the exact same attitude to gaming. As my trail of broken PS3 controllers will attest.
OMG this was a wonderful interview and what i wouldn't give to sit around and play video games with these guys for an afternoon!!! (Go League! lol) I've also wanted to know where the band name come from so thanks!
Aside from all the fantastic here... those lima beans... I felt his reaction and memory down to my marrow. I still can't handle them. What a trip.

Marsters is hands down the best audiobook reader. Dresden Files is epic!
He's certainly up there with Simon Vance, Richard Easton, and Michael Kramer/Kate Reading. Love his work on Dresden as well!

Absolutely fangirling, this is a dream trio
agreed. they are a lovely bunch of gents!
this poscast is hilarious! I’m hooked ❤
Me yelling at the screen for 10 minutes "BOOKKEEPER!" lol. Fantastic episode, great guest!
I seriously thought it was boomerang at first.

I had already heard thet riddle before. Despite that, I still couldn't figure it out, until the 'starts with a B.'

James Marsters has the most infectious laugh ever. I had no idea.

Ah Buffy’s best asset and my favorite Hobbits. It’s a good day.
The sun light beam on James's head makes me think that Billy wanted to see if James would catch on fire or turn to ash.
James' laugh brings me such joy...
Thank you always, beautiful souls! Xx
so bloody lucky JAMES MARSTERS is awesome and has aged incredibly well and SPIKE is my favorite character in BUFFY (the tv series)
Oh look, it’s my first three childhood crushes in one setting
Two of my crushes are together! However, I'm dying at James and Billy hating the lima beans, and Dom saying, "They're all right..." and munching away!
Another great episode. The thing I enjoyed the most was his laugh 😂
