@@ByzantineBob96makes sense, I need to find mods that make the AI more competent now that with the Byzantines I’ll immediately have a super high quality army
@@ByzantineBob96 I think it would be better to wait when there’s a performance patch, the real challenge comes when you try to restore the Hellenic Roman Empire.
@@mave2789 That sounds like a fun playhthrough honestly, and yeah Im gonna wait for a patch, after 150 years from 1178 the game just would lags beyond comprehension haha.
Theres a great mod called ''more game rules'' that allows you to turn off external vassal wars. Had to download it after my first game, were my vassals kept expanding into Wallachia
@@Granochereal You might be right, im not too sure. I just know it was annoying when my vassals were blobbing in directions i didnt want to expand haha
I did want to include this in the text, but I already had too much so decided not to. Essentially, every ruler up until Theodoros Komnenos and Michael VIII Kantakouzenos were the child of the previous Emperor. Michael VIII Kantakouzenos was the uncle of Anna who was installed via faction demand for 6 years. Theodoros was Annas brother, and the son of Thomas Komnenos.
"Eastern Roman Empire" never existed. There was only one Roman Empire. I modded my game to say "Romaic Empire" though to show that the primary language was Greek and not Latin.
Its a name choice added into the game, there was an eastern and western part of the Roman empire with separate Emperors, both existed independent of one another.
@@ByzantineBob96 No they didn't. That is an anachronistic notion. There was always just one Roman Empire. At some point there were emperors in the east and in the west (sometimes up to 4 or more), but the empire was never ever divided. It was always indivisible. For example, when in 800 AD the bishop of Rome crowned Carolus Magnus Emperor of the Romans, the Holy See stopped recognising the Roman Empire with its capital in New Rome as Roman Empire and started to refer to it as Empire of the Greeks. The "true" Roman Emperors reciprocated. While the latter eventually recognised western emperors are Emperors of the Franks, they never referred to them as Emperors of the Romans. Even in 1204 the Latin Emperors in Constantinople were referred to by the Pope as Emperors of Constantinople, never Roman Emperors. In turn, Latin Emperors in Constantinople called themselves as such in their communications with the Pope, but then called themselves Roman Emperors in communication with everyone else. There are other examples, but this is already a mini-essay.
Theres a difference between playstyles, I dont like just rapid expansion, I prefer a slower approach to give the game longevity. It didnt take me the entire game, thats just how I play, mirroring how it was done historically.
@@mihailo2662 it’s not unheard of, I think there’s a difference between playing to get as big as possible and playing in the role of whatever polity you picked. Also, there are 5 lifestyles (soon to be 6) and only one of them is martial
Ngl these Byzantine armies in the hands of a player are monstrously deadly
Preach. I would have gone further with expansion, but the late game lags horribly as of the new patch

@garabic8688 yeah it's easy to just steamroll, which when there's no competition it's less fun

Mongol Belarus was blobbing in the end.
Yes! The white horde is still rules by Descendants of Ghengis Khan, theyre orthodox now and hybrid culture!
Well played sir! When i try playing the byzantine empire, i explode into fragments like the handgrenade in 1947 that killed my pet hamster Robin.
Thank you buddy, keep trying!
The good ending
Just needed Rome there in the end but even without that, 100% one of the best endings
How could you do such clean borders? My theme vassals are too powerfull, they don't stop expandind by themselves
There's a mod that prevents your admin vassals from going to war.
Yes, like IsI33p said I use a mod for this, its called 'more game rules' and lets you turn off external vassal wars!
@@ByzantineBob96does this mod allow you to get achievements on steam? (with some mods the game counts the achievement, but steam doesn’t)
@@gif31_228 I'm pretty sure you can get achievements with most mods now. But yes, you can get them with this mod!
Suffering from success
Make a timelapse of the Eastern Europe from 867 date start (Novgorod or Kyiv)
Good idea, I did a playthrough there once uniting Russia, its very fun, though quite different to what I usually play! Ill have to give it a go again.
Great video
Thank you man, I really appreciate that!
How did you keep your governors from creating hideous bordergore? In my game they never miss a chance to expand in places I dont want to go conquer.
