Want to learn more about threats to democracy? VICE World News is hosting a midterms streamathon on Twitch on Tuesday Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Correspondents from around the country will call in to explain what's really going on in America right now. Join us at Twitch.tv/vice.
This is biased rhetoric and propaganda. You cats remember Tim Pool? You should. Didn’t mention him being SWATTED twice. You also didn’t interview MGT. Your expert referred to Gorsuch when it was Kavanaugh who had an assassin outside his home. I’m not republican or Democrat. I don’t have a side here. At least perform your job objectively and without bias. This piece is fully biased. I could go on and on, shall we talk Maxine Waters? How about the VP? You didn’t mention the burned down cities and the lives taken during “The Summer of Love.” You want to report on this stuff, at least show both sides to be equally unhinged. I had some respect for Vice. I watch your pieces all the time, but you dropped the ball on this one, big time.
At 16:30 that republican candidate was very close to saying we are at war but quickly changed that to we have an invasion in our country. I find it interesting how that "we are at...." comment wasn't edited out, it's as if she wanted people to think there's a war going on.

Good luck ‘doing it the right way’. I’m an American who had my kids while living in Switzerland and they were registered as US citizens from day 1, but my wife is Hungarian. It took 2 1/2-3 years and almost $10k in attorney fees and they treated my wife like dirt, screwed up multiple aspects of it, and told me the best thing to do was either get a job and move to the US and leave my wife in Europe. My attorney said the fastest way was to divorce my wife, get engaged to her again, and go through for a fiancé Visa. When you have to divorce your wife to move your almost entirely American family back to America together, something is seriously wrong.
How incredibly frustrating. I'm sorry your family has had this stressful situation just so you can return to the USA.
@@patriciasullivan9862 I was actually lucky because I was working for an international tech firm and they were happy to move me anywhere in the US I wanted, sign a contract, and work for a couple of months in Europe while employed in a US job so I could complete the last phase where you need to prove you have a job. Even that seems crazy to me. I’m a citizen, why can’t I bring my wife back to the US and look for a job, or he’ll, even be homeless if that’s my situation. I think Immigration forgets who they’re working for.
@@ryanmalone2681 I would imagine a lot of those immigration officers, esp the interviewer officer or whatever are 100% hard asses, and were probably hired during the Trump era, them thinking that your relationship is a fraud or whatever, and make it as difficult as possible even if you're an American

These Hispanic folks who are calling all immigrants criminals is the embodiment of Conservative Thought. It is all about helping themselves and no one else. Fear, Hatred, and stop the Others... it is sickening.
Those Hispanics you were talking about are real immigrants. What you keep referring to as immigrants are actually illegal aliens. There's a difference between an illegal alien and an immigrant. Your convoluting both
naivety is not a virtue. also, just because someone comitted a crime doesn't mean they think it should be legal. it doesn't take a genius to know some actions or policies are bad or unsustainable.
This has been the way of migrants in the US. Back in the 1800s the descendants of migrants tried their best to exclude new Irish, Italians Polish, Lithuanians (etc) coming in, and there was a lot of talk even at the time about how strange and hypocritical it was. Now as more Hispanic and Latino folks are being assimilated to American culture, they are expressing similar kinds of contempt that were once directed at them or their parents.

They just want to protect the borders of their country and don't want anymore Mass immigration or illegal immigration this is perfectly reasonable and rational.
That’s not it. It is following the rules, coming in with a green card, believing in freedom instead of the corruption left behind, becoming a citizen of the greatest nation on earth, working hard for every step forward instead of being given housing and money and overrunning the border so the focus is there instead of the drugs and human trafficking flowing over.
These of course are not the families who have been here long before the United States came into being, who ignorant people think are all the same because we speak the same language or are the same color.
Wealth disparity and the loss of American economic self-sufficiency are what fuels anger in my opinion.
And the blaming of immigrants and minorities is the accelerant
Scapegoating minorities and constantly fear mongering doesn't help either.
And social media!! The ability to spread lies instantly (and be applauded for it) has fueled extremist views
All facts!
America is the most self-sufficient country in the world economically (at least of the ones doing relatively well and not under sanction) but no country is truly self-sufficient anymore and there's a reason for that - we're stronger together. The huge increases in standard of living for you and your family in the past 100 years are due to globalism and bringing jobs home will ruin your country.
I was an army wife working at ft Bragg when 9/11 happened. I worked on post. My boss was from turkey married to a service member with two boys. This country has changed so radically since Sept 11th it's not even recognizable anymore
@@Lewtable I will always refer to them as Illegal Aliens. That doesn’t mean they are not people though.
So true, Jeff. It was clear to me from the first day of this new political world that our country was going to hand Osama bin Laden a win beyond his wildest dreams. It was never about the people killed by the terrorists--it was always about revenge, explosive outrage, and we were willing to destroy our own freedoms and rights to that end.
For the sake of "security," we passed the Patriot Act, which decimated our Constitutional rights. That began this long, horrible slide into division, hatred, militant politics--essentially, we now terrorize each other.
For the sake of 2977 of our people--yes, worth avenging and mourning for sure--we did not take out the people who killed them. No: we caused the destruction of two countries' infrastructure, plunging millions into permanent poverty and razing what democratic aspirations they might have had at the time. We killed at least 600,000 Iraqi and Afghan citizens, more likely well over a million. These were blameless people, innocent of any association with terrorists--people who had previously admired our country, who mourned with us at the fall of the twin towers.
It was a repeat of the habit countries have had for a long time, perhaps since warfare was invented--fighting the last war. Treating the Afghans and Iraqis as if they were guilty as a nation was a Vietnam War type response. It was not the countries who attacked us--in fact, if we had focused on the country whose people dominated the attack, we could have been after Saudi Arabia. But the Saudi people as a whole were also not our attackers.
In a less imperialist, militaristic country, our response might have been to locate the culprits and strategically excise them from the countries in which they lived, as was ultimately the way we removed Osama bin Laden from existence. Instead, we treated a *terrorist organization* problem as a nation-aggressor problem. As if, for instance, the Ku Klux Klan committed an act of terrorism in Spain (yes, that was "insert terrorist here" and "insert country here") and Spain declared war on the United States.
I remember those "old days" and we had so many more social systems that helped our fellow citizens. I remember hearing and vision tests in schools, free and universal. I remember universal vaccination programs and Public Health clinics. Not fully funded, no; but if your kid had problems, you knew about it in time to do something about it. Not so, now. I went to college on public funds because of disadvantages I did not choose, and aced it, and taught school to the next generation. That does not happen now. The very concept of generosity toward the poor somehow disappeared after 9-11, the concept of my neighbor being one of my fellow citizens was eroded deeply. Fear became something you said you would not bow down before, even as every action was a response to fear.
@@Lewtable You've got it backwards. It was "illegal aliens" everywhere in popular culture until approximately the 1990's. It was the left that softened the language. I watched it happen.

[Capitalism] as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of evils. Do you forget what has happened to political people in the past. Its only now amplified by social media and access to communication tools. This has been going since the start of America.
The founding pillars of the 'United States' (please, stop calling it America; you're aware that these are the Americas, North and South, inclusive?) are violence, and slavery. So evident today to the most cursory perusal.
That's a straw man argument. It's different now than ever before and "only" amplified by social media is really downplaying the role that the internet is playing in radicalizing people.
Even back in my early-1990s conservative days (started shifting leftward in the mid-90s), no Republican I know of would have ever approved of these kinds of messages to lawmakers, even in the Deep South where I grew up. Sure, there were a few far-out wingnuts who probably sent an occasional message, but not enough to get media attention. Of course since 2016, this turned into "not your father's Republican Party" - to the detriment of the USA, and possibly the world.
it's funny how you leftists think the US was shifting toward the left in the 90s. in the 90s, clinton set the stage for the widest wealth and income disparity gap in US history. he repealed glass-steagall for f sake, dude.
and then a couple years after his presidency, we were at war for 18 years with EVER INCREASING wealth disparity. shifting left????
@@RobertMJohnson You have a point there. I was thinking of social issues. LGB (not yet the T) becoming increasingly accepted, likewise homophobia increasingly scorned. The first states started legalizing assisted suicide and pot. Sure, not like today, but it certainly wasn't the 80s.
@@filrabat1965 that's fair. for me and to me, gay marriage and weed legalization are CONSERVATIVE values, however, I realize that's not how the political zeitgeist identifies them. but technically, the government, to a true conservative, should not be telling people what they do in private with whom, as long as rights are not infringed. it's similar with weed, however, drugs are a more difficult topic to cover legislatively, b/c their is the element of what is and what is not a public health risk. but again, for now, barring rights being infringed or threatened, weed for adults should be a conservative value. less government, tax revenue increases b/c of the increased commerce, less crime results.
@@RobertMJohnson I appreciate your points. This seems a question of term definition. To me, conservative is "keep it the way it's always been". Not all hispanics come illegally. My sister in-law came legally, she went through hell waiting for a visa in Guyana while there were still people crossing the borders illegally. The treaty added an additional 525,000 square miles to United States territory, including the land that makes up all or parts of present-day Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. My message to people who declared each other their political enemies in America:
I know that from both your perspectives, it can seem like the other person was just never able to get to the same information as you. They weren't able to see the same self-supporting environment of beliefs that you were in, and instead they were inside their own. This is a limitation of our human perspective that has slowed down the goal of political peace in every generation. Have faith in the humanity of your neighbor. Housed or unhoused. Familiar or an out-of-towner. If you were down and out in America, you deserve an America where getting back to your rightful place is not a danger, but an uplifting hand. Offer that uplifting hand, almost as a prayer that one day the uplifting hand might be there for us to hold. In short scales, when violence springs up, violence may be necessary to put it out. But in the long term, peace can only flow from love. Our Common Constitution is the piece of paper that makes that love official. Look for it, and try to provide it. Don't think about your fellow American's beliefs when giving them basic help. The thought is tempting, almost has a veneer of logic: "If I help him, ultimately I'm just helping the people he helps, and I don't want to do that." The risks are already great for your fellow American. Don't make them search for a "good American" twice. If I did that to a fellow American for disagreeing with me, I would fear all of my life the same might happen back.
I'm not on either side, but the Republicans are straight up fascists and fed lies. It's impossible to be friends with them, and I'm forced to vote against them.
@@rd-lw4td Of course. If you have a political enemy, defeat them politically. Of course, you also have enemies that are worse than just political enemies. No one wants to engage. The biggest challenge in US politics is overcoming populism, particularly economic populism. The anti-trade, anti-immigrant attitudes that exist in both parties are destroying trading relationships and alliances, corroding the global economy and making inequality in the country worse.
Elected officials need to pursue policies not on what the people demand, but on the outcomes that people expect. Trade and immigration restrictions don't work to address inequality, and the belief that isolationism is going to create a "Made in America" economic utopia is pure fantasy. The real problem is that there is no social safety net, and no willingness in the federal government to spend any money on one.
Soros is paying you too much.
Global trade and mass immigration only serve to make the mega-rich even richer. Global trade transfers wealth out of the country and mass immigration keeps domestic wages low.
Your solution, socialism, is the final chapter. After impoverishing the citizens with globalism, socialism binds them in slavery to the state.
Having robbed people of their livelihoods, the elite reduces people to begging for scraps from the government.
