Michael Elias's policy of not drafting pitchers in the early rounds has caused a log Jam of position players and a complete lack of young power arms in the system.
I'm a lifelong Mets fan but the Orioles have a good young team. They need to resign Burnes and maybe get Teoscar if they can. Maybe another veteran pitcher too. But they have a good foundation already.
1) The Orioles haven't done anything yet. 2) If they resigned Burnes to a 6 year/240 million 6th year team option no trade before year 5. and resigned Santander to a 6 year/ $240 million 6th year team option no trade before year 5. then the Orioles would have the exact same group of players for the next 3 to 4 seasons. 3) If they can't win a WS before the youngsters (Rutch, Henderson, Cowser, Holiday, Westburg, Bradish, Rodriguez) reach their 2nd contract, then they will never do it. They need a #1 pitcher like Burnes and a superstar Vet that came through the same system like Santander. The team got effed up for a few weeks when it looked like anyone was on the trading block in July. 4) Bringing in new players again doesn't guarantee winning right away or at all. The Orioles have already proven they can win with Burnes and Santander. Too many people think players can just be plugged into another team and they will perform on command like they did on another team.
I don't think they can afford Burnes and they have decided to get a replacement for Santander, which I think I largely expected. Bringing it up to date, I did think they could afford Eovoldi, which would have taken $80-$90 million over three years. They did not want to give up their top prospects or rookies for Crochet. So, I think they need to trade at least two or three of their top prospects, below Bassillo, and maybe a pitcher on the rooster, to trade for a top-line pitcher.
@@kensilverstone1656 .. Burnes is expected to get $220 million (worth $240 over 6) and Santander $120 million (he's worth $200 mil over 6). The Orioles could easily afford that and be a WS contender for the next 4 years before they lose control over Rutch, Henderson, Cowser, Holiday, Westburg, Bradish, and Rodriguez. Not sure why they shot their wad on O'Neill based on inconsistent performance over four seasons. Santander was a known commodity and went through the O's system like the youngsters on the team. Eovaldi is not a #1 starter. Crochet is not a proven starter. He's a reach. There was no need to scouring the bargain basement for mediocre players. They should have kept Burnes and Santander. I expect the Os to miss the playoffs this season and be selling at the trade deadline.
Signing O'Neil and Sanchez, missing out on All the top Starters, and looking at RETREADS is not giving fans something to cheer about! Both Elias and Hyde should be FIRED when the O's finish 4th or 5th this yr and Not make Playoffs! You are not making any playoffs with 2nd and 3rd rate starters only!
I have absolutely no confidence in Hyde with his incompetence as a Coach, lies about trades, signing acquisitions, and Elias with his RETREAD signings, acquisitions, and his BULLSHITTING the fanbase constantly!
The "drawing interest" and "Orioles are in conversation" things are not new. Signing one of them would be. Extending some of the young guys now would be. Crying poverty come spring training and a couple 2nd tier moves and dumpster dives sold as "value transactions" would not be new.
Rubinstein would be a lot more comfortable going out and spending big money on the team if our attendance was better. To that end, if we would import cheerleaders from Japan, Taiwan and South Korea to dance on the dugout roof(s) between innings there would be a dramatic increase in ticket sales. Your'e laughing but its true.
as a long time Orioles fan who has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly, I am hoping for another winning season where we will have postseason success
Hands down the best baseball commentary on UA-cam.
The Orioles need to go back playing small ball and get runs during postseason. They have all the talent that is needed in their farm system.

What happened to liftoff Elias? LoL!

And bro literally can't manage a bullpen. Like wtf, why are the starters getting taken out in the 5th inning?
It seems the Orioles are the one sleeping
